Dec 7th joint stamping experience
Today, I've had my intereview done in Hyderabad. It was a joint interview, H1-B and spouse for H4, on new i797 petition. Questions started off with formal greeting-

Q. Is this your first time at consulate?
A. For a joint interview, Yes.

Q. Have you been to U.S or been on any status before?
A. Yes. been on F1 and H1B. Previous H1 extension was denied.

Q. Why?
A. Univ reasons.

Q. Why exactly Univ did not qualified for MS quota?
A. Explained honestly and stated subsequent petition has been filed and approved, which is what I'm providing currently for this interview.

Q. Highest education
A. Answered

Q. Prospective salary up on enterting to U.S
A. Answered

VO switched to my spouse

Q. Marriage date?
A. Answered

Q. Have you been on F2 while your previous stay?
A. Yes (I've added H4 conversion details to the reply)

Q. Have you done anything in violation of law during F2 (not sure what might have triggered such question)
A. No

VO ended conversation, stated that my spouse application might take couple of weeks and requires processing. He retained both of our passports and said VISA is approved for both of us. Kind of confusing as don't know exactly what additional processing might incur , given VO has not given any sort of 221g slips to us. And exact delay is unknown.

Due to my peculiar situation, I've prepared for such bullet questions before hand. And been apt, short during interview. It was a lengthy queue outside gate when arrived (only arrived before 15 mins), went in and waited for about 5 mins and called up on for security check (Post security check, they kicked me out for carrying couple of sealed envelopes and asked to re-enter the gate. wasted about 20 mins on this so make sure your envelopes/docs are all unsealed), Gave our finger prints which went about 5 mins in line. And we have been seated at waiting area for about 15 mins. Finally , the personnel gave us a token (VO desk number) and asked to stand inline with only I797, passports in hand and rest of docs to be carried in file. Altogether, the wait time depends up on the people count.

I'd like some inputs from the guys attended interview recently - Apparently, both of my passports in CEAC site is showing Admin processing. But the ustraveldocs status checker shows the passport is still with embassy. It might be too early to ask this question, but did any one had been in the same situation lately(like VO responded VISA approved, but passports held back)? How long it took for getting the Passports back with stamping? Please let me know. Also, if any one is willing to share their contact, it will be of great help and I can keep in touch on the status. I'd be checking my updates periodically and will be following up in this forum time to time.

H1B Visa Stamping- Chennai-Dec 6th 2017
Hello All,

First of all, I need to thank for the people who have shared their experience. I have been following this thread for almost a year. The tips provided by the other people in this thread were very helpful. Now it is my turn to share my experience.

First Day (OFC):
This was pretty straight forward. The only recommendation is please carry Passport, Appointment Confirmation and DS-160 Confirmation. All other documents are not required.

Second Day:
My appointment was at 8:30AM, I stood in the line at 7:15AM (That was a mistake). My recommendation is please go only 30 minutes in advance.

VO: Hello
Me: Good Morning Sir, How are you?

VO: Who is your petitioner?
Me: Told xxxxx

VO: What do they do?
Me: Told xxxxx

VO: What do you do for them?
Me: I work as a xxxxxxx

VO: Which location?
Me: Told xxxxxx

VO: What is your salary?
Me: Told monthly, then he asked me for annual salary

VO: Your Visa is approved. I am keeping your Passport.
Me: Thank you and have a good day.

Good Luck to everyone.

L1B to H1B conversion, Chennai, Dec 7 2017
Attended my visa appointment at Chennai on Dec 7 for a L1B to H1B conversion.

I'm a full-time employee of a US based networking company for the last 7 years.

Who do you work for?
Where do you work?
How much do you make?
I see you've applied for a Canadian tourist visa, why? and, what happened?

Explained that i applied for a Canadian visa to hop across the border for a weekend to Montreal while on a work trip to upstate NY. I'd submitted an online application during my last India trip with Chennai as the passport drop off location. The process took longer than expected and i was asked to drop off my passport 2 days before i was to leave to the US in Jan 2017. The visa application timed out because i did not submit my passport.

VO informed me that my H1B visa was approved.

I've been reading about visa printing delays across multiple consulates for certain cases without a pattern.

I have travel plans to leave on a Europe trip in 7 calendar days and i'm getting back to the US from there.

I chose not to risk a passport delay and asked to retain my passport and submit it at a later time for H1B visa printing. VO gave me a blue slip (typically used for additional document requests) with a case number and asked that i drop off the passport when i'm ready.

I asked if there was a last date for passport drop off and was told 'no there isn't, but drop it off as soon as possible'. Technically, per the blue slip, i have a year to drop of my passport before my case expires.

I intend to FedEx my passport back home once i'm in the US and have a family member submit it at VFS Chennai for H1B visa printing in Jan 2018.

H1b, H4 Visa stamping Mumbai.
Hi All,
I did my Dropbox on 17 nov17.

Got an email to collect passport on 20nov17, but online visa status showed as "admin processing".

When collected passport it was without stamp and had 221g form asking me to attend visa interview alone along with wifes passport and 3 documents - LCA, client letter and paystubs.

Attended visa interview on 24nov17.
VO asked me some basic questions and they took LCA, client letter and paystubs.
VO looked at LCA and client letter properly. She didn't saw paystubs.
VO took fingerprints and called my wife inside to take her fingerprinting as well.

Further VO issued me 221g and retained client & vendor letter and returned our passports and informed me that they need to do further verification with my job at clientside. She said it can take around 2 weeks for the verification to get completed and they will inform me further via email.

My case was created on 17 nov17 and updated on 24nov17 which was my visa interview date.
It has been more than 2 weeks but no update yet. Also no calls/emails came to my client manager yet.

I am checking the visa status online and waiting for consuler email to arrive.

Is there any way we can ask them for an update, whether they enquired to the client, how long it will take for the process, etc.

I know there are similar cases occurred with other people and based on their and your experience, is there an email address by which we can contact mumbai consulate??

And is there any specific questioners they ask to our client manager so that I can give headsup to them..?
Is there anyone who is the same boat, who got 221g in november and whose visa got approved later.?? I think people are not updating their status, once visa is issued.

USCIS should provide proper status checking.
If everything was good all documents were clear then for no reason they r putting us in trouble.

I have cancelled my return flight ticket and there is no refund for it. I can't reschedule/postponed the tickets since we are not certain as when will they issue us visa.
It can take 2 weeks to 2 months.

Situation is going to panic now. I don't have WFH access and I m working in EVC ratio based salary model so no income/money when I m on leave.
My rent, bills, insurance all are going on without any salary.. I have all my stuffs in U.S.

Its a heavy loss for me, but who and how will we convey this to USCIS. They will not care about all this.

If you find something from your friends as to whom should we contact/write email to us consulate for checking my visa status, asking them to know where it is stuck currently then just let me know....
I m now just checking it online and the Visa status shows admin processing, but we don't know what's going on internally...where it is pending?.also we don't have any clues regarding timeline

If anyone has any info, do contact me on my email address - [email protected]

Thanks.

H4 EAD works at Cell Research
Hi All,
I went for the h4 visa interview on 30th November. The VO mistakenly thought I was for H1b and started asking questions. After looking at my submitted documents she realized I was for h4 EAD. Asked if I was working and asked to see my EAD. After that asked me where I am working and from which year. Then asked how many years I am married and if I have kids. Asked what my husband does. Then she provided 221g white slip with no checked boxes and told “I guess you are pretty used to get AP. Plan accordingly. She returned my passport also. I was expecting a smooth approval. I have return tickets for 28th dec and I have an active job. I don’t know how much time it will take for AP. If anyone has experience please share. My kid’s school will open by Jan 2nd too. It looks like the AP taking long time. Thank you,
