Me and my wife both got our resppective H1B's approved yesterday 5th March at chennai consulate
Here is our experience
Back ground:
Both me and my wife are travelling to same client liocation on our respective H1B. We had our interview scheduled at 7:45AM and our's is a BEP case.
We reached there at around 7:15 and were asked to stand in a queue since first slot is for 7:30 guys. 15 min later we were asked to go thru 1st level of security checn where we got to chow the appointment letter and DS160 confirmation letter and a NIV token will be issued to us for further flow.
Next we go thru second level of security check were in the check our wallet/doc file and other stuff we are carrying with us. After that we go to q waiting lobby where in on the TV display NIV token numbers are displayed whith details on to which queue do we need to go for DOCUMENTS evrification. After doc verification, we go to another counter at the same place for fingure prints formalities. After all these formalities are done we are asked to go to another building where the actual visa interview happens.
Again here we are asked to wait in a queue(seating lobby) and on a TV our NIV token number will be dislayed with details on to which counter to we need to go for the interview.
i finally was asked to go to counter# 23 and my wife counter#15.

Overall, I guess since it was a BEP and a H1B case it went on smooth.
Bottom line, they just see how confident are you and knowing why u r going there with genuine details is a simple way to face it. If nervous, the formalities they have there beofre the interview and the atmosphere will calm you down eventually.

Visa Interview @Chennai Consulate 5 march 12
Hi all,I had my interview scheduled at Chennai Consulate on 05 March 2012 at 11.15am, but went there early actually reached very early @8.30am , asked the security where to stand he asked me to wait and come at 10am.Went again @9.45 and he asked me to stand in line. Once my turn came I submitted the interview letter & CEAC letter at outside counter and took the token. Went inside had security check done(Dont carry closed
envelope if you want to carry them open it before the security check, in front of me a guy was having 25-30 paystubs in closed envelopes the security guard asked him to go out and open the envelopes and come back again then the security will stamp on all the open envelopes, also i did not carry wallet to avoid unnecessary headache of security check)
Went inside waited for my token number, saw the token number on TV and went to the counter, she asked for 2Photos, Passport, interview letter &
I797B which she wrapped in rubber band and asked me to go for footprint, Once footprint was done went to the next building for interview.
Waited till my number was seen on TV.3 token numbers came on the same window(No 16) including mine ,i was the second one. The first person did not come till that time i was waiting in front of VO and the VO was also calling for the first token number.VO was a chubby white guy.. i thought he will ask me all sought of document and questions.The first guy did not turn up so the VO asked me to come over.What is thought of VO turned out to be exactly opposite he was a true gentleman.

If you are applying for h1b visa make sure your passport is in good condition , those who have old paaport with photo lamination need to be care ful , if any minor changes , us embassy will ask for new passport. To get new passport is also night mare.
If You get 221 g and if delay don't waste your time calling vas, or mail vfs, it's frustrating, they don't known what's happening inside vfs are just application collecting agency, they are just a gate keepers .they don't known anything much, you get emails back which is preprepared.

H1b visa interview mumbai consulate
my interview was shceduled at 10.AM at mumbai conculate. MIne was BEP case.
cab driver came at morning 5:00 am at my place and we reach consulate at around 7:30. I waited in line for around half an hour.
then i entered a room where luggage checking was going on but i didnot carry anything except my docs so i was send to one counter which asked me for DS160 confiration and interview appointment letter . i gave him and then he gave me my token number.
then i was forwarded to a gallary and then a big room people sitting on chairs waiting for their turn and there were around 20 counters. LCD displaying token numbers and counter number.
i waited for around 1 hr then my turn came..
VO was a beautifull 28 yr old girl.her eyes were so nice to look into.
i saw many rejection before my turn so was little bit nervous but when my turn came i was confident and clear .
i was answering by looking into her eyes..and being loud and clear and confident.
she asked me below questions
Q= who is your employer?
A =XX
Q= how long you were with your employer?
A =1 yrs
Q= total year of experience?
A =5 yrs
Q= how you 5 yrs experience?
A=Earlier i was with XYZ
Q=why you going US?
A= to serve temporary assigment for client YY?

H1B visa interview with NO Show case experience
Hi guys,
I would like to share my experience with all you guys, since it was different case ,it will be helpful to you guys if in case such things happen in your case.
I was unable to attend visa interview on 13th Feb. So it went as NO SHOW case. After 3 working days from my interview date US consulate has updated my status as NO SHOW case. Then I have reactivated the HDFC receipt and booked new interview date on 27th Feb. with new DS-160 Form.
On 27th Feb. I reached US mumbai consulate 90 minutes prior to interview .There was long queue as usual .I got token after standing 20 minutes in queue. Now the token received had old DS-Confirmation number which I used during booking first interview slot(i.e 13th Feb). Since the information has changed I had submitted new ds-160 form and booked new appointment with new ds-160 form. I told this issue to token distributer guy but he said that it was right token.
After that i was very nervous and very much sure that I would get 221g.I had seen lot of rejection that day. After waiting for approx 1 hour my turn came.
The Visa Officer was lady .She had rejected visa of previous applicant. Previous applicant wanted visa to meet there son in US & she has rejected their application saying you are not qualified to get visa.
When i reached to the counter she asked me for passport & I797 petition.Then the following conversation happened
Me:Hi, Good Morning.
VO:Good morning.How are you?
Me: I am doing good.How are you?
VO: I am also doing good.
Me: mam there is problem in my token number. It is not showing correct DS-confirmation number.
VO:I didn’t get you.
Me. (I have shown my DS-160 confirmation page)
VO: (she looked at my token number )what’s your name & birth date.
Me: xxx & xxxx
VO: Who is your client?
Me: xxxx company

VO: What will be your US Salary?

VO: Who is your reporting manager at client location?

She returned my original petition and I said thank you.
I was very happy and shocked also. I guess I was very lucky that day. I think in NO SHOW case DS-160 confirmation number which appears on token is from older DS-160 confirmation number if you have taken new appointment with new DS-160 confirmation number. I am not sure about this.
My personal advice to all the candidates who are appearing for visa interview to give all the answer confidently & never show visa officer that your life depends on visa. With some luck you can crack visa interview surely.
