I was really tensed attending the interview . As I belong to big MNC and I am leaving it for a small us based company. They asked for company wage report,company income tax return and project document. My employer first didnt give me these documents and then he gave it to me after I insisted that I wanted those documents. My suggestion "the question is simple -- Prepare urself well wat you are gng to answer . Ensure that the previous experience gained is being used in this project.Also relate ur technical expertise with the project you are gng to do...

It was pretty straight forward except that they had some problem with ym passport picture (apparently had some shadow behind my ear....sheesh). So had to shell out 100 bucks , wait in line and get a new photo taken right there. That apart the interview went like this:
VO: gm

I saw people stumbling through basic questions like why you want to got UIS and what project you will be working on, which screwed things up for them. Be sure of your answers and dont shake like aleaf in front of them. Its merely a verification for security purpose. Rarely will be the casde whent he vo frowns on you just because he had a spat with his wife at home.

my wife's situation as my H1B dependent
hi guys! my problem is my wife and I just have a baby, I know that I can bring my baby with me on H4.. but the problem is my wife, because she is still not annuled on her previous marriage. I want to bring them with me. based on the H4, only married spouses can be brought. *my questions are..
1. can they make an exception?
2. if not, are there other visa that can b used?
3. if my wife can't use H4, can the immig. give her visitor's visa instead? i mean automatically? not fearing being denied afterall she's the mother of my baby. please if anybody can shed light on my situation.. do email me at [email protected].

Like most of the people, I made more out this forum before my H1B interview. Thanks for Immihelp an its members. I attended my interview at Chennai on 22nd October.
My interview was scheduled by 7.15 AM, but due to huge rush at the Chennai consulate, I got into the second building where the interview takes place by 9.00 AM. Even there, I could see a big queue. By 10.00 AM, I took the interview. The visa officer is a american(I assumed here) lady.
Me : GM, How are you doing?
VO : Fine, Thank You. Can I have your application.
Me : Here it is.
VO : You are working for XYZ in chennai.
Me : Yes.
VO : How long you are with XYZ.
Me : X years, Y months.
VO : How do you know about the company.
Me : Through my friend, he refered me to the company.
VO : Which project you will be working?
Me : (Here I dont have any client letter with me, neither the internal project document.) I will be working in ABC company (My US employer).
VO : NO, I'm asking will you be working with any of the clients of ABC company or internal project at ABC.
Me : No, I was told that I will be working in Commercial web applications, B2B, B2C projects. But I havent heard the name of one particular client. I'm heard that ABC company has QQQ, WWW, EEE, RRR as their clients.
VO : 1 min.
Me : Take your time.
VO : Fine, I'm Issuing you the visa, but.... your employer seems to have no projects, have this card with you, if you are not paid or put on bench, please call the number mentioned in the card.
Me : Sure, Thanks a lot.
I think it is the luck/gods grace that favored me. Since I have been to Kuwait regarding my project, I was bit tensed, eventhough I have been to USA on B1 visa, which I think an added advantage.
So, be confident, you dont get rejected, worst case is you might get query.

Got h1b visa after isuue 221 g

I said that i am going to work inhouse project.The visa office given blue paper and tick sumit tax returns and wages reports and internal project des. in vfs hyd.
I droped all those docs 22oct 2008 . then i got visa on 29oct.

I have attended for visa stamping 2day @ london US embassy ,,and was issued a
221 G....i really dont understand y they did it (?) ,till now ...coz they have nt asked me 2 submit any further docs ,,the VO has simply striked off all the docs required and said me that they need to review ma case......
actually vn i went 2 counter i hav observed that VO is lil bit ? mark faced .....it seems he cant get wat he needs from the system

Advice to all people going for H1B at chennai or at new consulate at Hyderabad
All,
Please beware that chennai consul follows tough scrutinization of all the documents you submitted for H1B interview.And definetly the same rule will be implied with the new consulate going to set up at hyderabad. Iam sure same interview people from chennai will be placed initially for the interviews at hyderabad.And consul people are aware that majority of the recieved fake documents are from andhra pradesh. Never try to submit any fake educational or work experience letters.
They have fraud prevention unit which can easily identify the fake certificates if u submitted any.Never tell any lie to Visa officer , americans always appreciate the honesty. Never think that giving all information genuine will affect the visa issuance.If visa officer finds you that you are a honest person even though you have no enough experience thay may definetly award you with the visa.Remember the chances of getting visa completely depends on what the documents you submit and what the honest information you give at the time of interview.AND PLEASE DO NOT TRUST ANY BODY giving you the suggestions of putting up a fake experience certificates.If you have put up any company that is not a national or international company then there are many chances that they may make you sit for a while in interview hall and may do all the backgroung checks.If you are caught with fake experience and if you agree that you are guilty they may just take sign from you any reject you application under 221g and they will forward it to USCIS.But still you have chance to apply H1B for next FY provided things are changed and you should be able to show genuine exp from BIG MNC you may get a visa. But if the educational certificate is fake they may never issue a US Visa in you life time.Depending on the severity thay may handle case to local police. And while applying for H1 processing in US please try to find out that your company is directly a vendor to any big company.My suggestion is Try to avoid processing your application with a new company or that is not a vendor to any big company.If your company is a new or not a direct vendor to big company then it will be very difficulty for a company in US to provide the additional documents asked by consulate people an they may try to provide false information any ultimately you will be the looser. this is what happening with many applicants currenty who are pending with the 221g.

First of all thanks a lot to all those people who have put their experiences on this site. A great site and a great help to all unexperienced people.
First and last keyword for success is "Confidence"
Reach at consulate before 1 hr. of your appointment.
Took the whole file(i.e Take an harmonium file) and with all the documents (i.e. 1.Passport 2. I797 3. Appointment letter 4. US Company letters 4. All docs of Indian company (current and previous companies) 5. Company website copies 6. company photographs 7.I-T returns and payslips )
- If any of the document is missing then don't worry but be confident
First is security chek in consulate
after security check you will enter into consulate's main room and they will give you your DS-156,DS-157 and they will take your I797 and passport and give you with a cover(green) and a pink token, that you should take with you and go for the finger print at window 1. At window1 they will take your docs and take the finger prints.
After giving finger prints you have to wait for your turn, they will call you by your pink token number. [ Don't worry if your turn will take more then 1 or 1.5 hrs. ]
My experience was like this:
I have an appointment of 9:00 am. I reached consulate at 7:30a.m. They took me in consulate at 8:15 a.m. Security check and finger print completed at 8:40 a.m. And my turn came on 10:05 a.m.

[At the time when you are waiting for your turn in queue , plz. stare at VO's face though he is not looking at you. Don't look here and there.]

[ Then he went to a room inside with my degree certificate and came after 2 mins. and again typing constantly in computer.I was looking constantly on his face.]
VO: Ok I approved your visa. Take this I-797.
Me: Ok, Thank you sir.
[ Please don't look here and there in the interview. They are checking your confidence. Look constantly on his face and be confident]
Important thing is answer him in full length , don't use short answers.
Be confident otherwise they will ask for more docs.
