Please help me
I am saikrishna recently i visited mumbai consulate for non-immigrant visa. So i got Yellow paper with a query and i got back my passport and yellow envelop.

I got mail from Mumbai consulate saying that "This is to inform you that the administrative processing for your US non-immigrant visa application has been completed." i need to submit my Passport and Yellow paper with envelop in VFS office. I am staying in Nagpur(MH) so my brother can submit those documents instead of my present. Because before going to Mumbai consulate my brother submitted my documents instead of me in VFS office Pune.

So please revert this mail that my brother can submit my Passport and Yellow papper with consulate mail print out at Pune VFS office instead of my present or can i post my documents?

H1 Visa
Congratulations to all those who have got their visas. I just like to point out a few points here which may help everyone going to US.

I got my H1 visa stamped last year in december. I heard the news that US economy is suffering from a severe recession. I still decided to leave for US in the hope of getting a job. I thought i may get lucky.

The reality was different to what i thought. Indeed the US job market was very down. People already working in US are still safe but the newcomers have to face a hard time finding work. On the other hand, desi consultants have a 'no-care' attitude towards its employees.

If you have a strong experience of more than 5 years (no fakes) in your domain, then you should be able to find work with less difficulty even if your desi consultants dont help you.

On the other hand, if your experience level is less, then definitely the good desi consultants wont be able to help you too. They will put you on bench in a shitty guesthouse to share with 8-9 other guys who will in same situation as you.

The other thing is, you would definitely need to sort out your driving license as without a car (unless in manhattan), one would be completely handicap. US is widely spread unlike england and europe which has an excellent public transportation. There will be no buses running in most of the areas in a state (exceptions are big cities). Only train stations which again can be miles away from where you are. The company might put you in a guesthouse miles away from the restaurants and supermarkets. In that case, you need to drive all the way to buy what you need (if you want to) or hire a private cab (very expensive).

If you buy the phone cards there, remember that they even charge for any incoming calls unless you decide to go for contract (better option), but for that you need to set up a bank account and have regular income in that. Doing small part time work on H1 visa can be risky but lot of people do that (again transportation may be a problem here with respect to going to your work place and coming back).

With the current situation in US, the chances of the job market getting better seems low. Other alternatives to US are options like UK and australia where they have points system which helps to get a PR to settle down.

At the end i just like to conclude by saying that make your own mind and review the market situations, take references from your desi consultants and make sure you have a strong experience in your field.

Wishing everyone a happy future.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences
Hi All,
First I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for putting your honest advices and experiences regarding the H1B interview process. Though people used to say getting H1B is a cake work, but honestly speaking for me it was not at all like that. My interview schedule was from 11.10 on 30/09/2008. As per your suggestions I was there by 9.30 a.m. only. While standing I noticed that the securities are sending many guys back to the queue again if they are much earlier than their scheduled time. But fortunately when I came to the first gate, it was 11.05 and they checked my interview letter and passport and permitted me to go inside. Guys please try to take your document in any transparent file and do not bring and sealed envelop with you. It will be creating lot of problem for you. Anyway, after the first gate when I was inside, again one person did a security scan from top to bottom and sent me in the counter where the first time they will be taking my thumb impression and checking all the required documents. Among these documents they will take the HDFC receipt, 156 & 157, and all other documents which might be your company will be providing you. I was from a very small company and that is what honestly speaking I was bit scared. After that is done, I was asked to go inside to the counters where we have to face those white guys. Anyway the queue standing, the situation was cool there. The person was taking interview, he was not asking 1/2 question and withing 10/15 seconds he was saying those words to everyone -'Congratulations'. But just beside in the counter I saw two guys were rejected and got 221(g). Though I was supposed to go to the person who was in a cool mood that day but unfortunately suddenly the VO from the next counter called me. Believe me guys I was very tensed that time because I saw two guys to get 221(g). When I was there I had to face to below conversations:

VO: Good morning.
Me: Very Good morning Sir.
VO: What is your highest degree?
Me: B.Tech in I.T.
VO: From Which college?
Me: XYZ
VO: When did you pass out?
Me: XYZ
VO: Tell me about your project you are going to work in onsite?
Me: Bla Bla Bla
VO: May I see the document from your company describing your project?
Me: Sure Sir.
VO: This is the only document?
Me: Yes Sir.
VO: May I see your B.Tech Pass certificate?
Me: Sure Sir.
VO: (was checking someing from his system and he took min 10 sec to tell those words for what I was simply dieing) Congrats. Your Visa i approved and we will send it within a week.
Me: Thank you so much sir ( and I left the place).

Guys one thing I must say, its your fate to get the visa. And one thing remember - " Hope for the best but plan for the worst".

Thank,
Best of luck to you all
