Successful H1, H4 stamping at Mumbai Consulate
In this week I had appeared for h1 and h4 visa interview along with my family (spouse and kid) at Mumbai consulate. Interview was at 8.15 am.

Visa officer was an American lady with good smiling face.

The interview went as follows:

Me: Good morning mam
VO: Good morning…(then she smiled at my baby boy…as he was crying at that time)
VO: please give me your pink tokens.
Me: gave 3 tokens
VO: what work is assigned to you in United States?
Me: said my designation
VO: how much they offered you?
Me: said my annual package
VO: whats your qualification?
Me: xyz
VO: where are you going to live? In which city of US you will be staying?
Me: answered
VO: currently working with ABC Company? (She was impressed with my current employer, as my current employer is a very big US based MNC)
Me: Yes Mam, currently working with ABC.
VO: (to my spouse) Sir, what are you doing here in India?
Spouse: answered.
VO: what are you planning to do in US?
Spouse: answered….blah blah
VO: when you got married?
Spouse: answered
VO: how old is your child?
Spouse: answered.
VO: did you visit US earlier? (My spouse went to US in 2005 )
Spouse: answerd..so and so month and year.
VO: on which visa?
Spouse: answered
VO: do you have only one child?
We both : Yes.
VO: I am granting your visa you will receive your passport in 2 days.

The interview was very very smooth. I dint touch my folder, VO dint ask for any documents. In my entire interview, she was busy in typing something on her machine and was not bothered about my and my spouse answers. Somehow I felt from her body language that I am going to get visas. I think its predecided whether they want to grant you a visa or not after studying DS-156, 157 etc forms.

US consulate, Mumbai, people are very very cooperative. They give preference to the family interview with small child. My whole visa process (security check, finger print, VO interview) was of 30 minutes only…rest of the crowd was waiting for their turn for more than 1 hrs. But I was through with visa process in 30 minutes.

If you have good experience with big IT companies, higher qualification in computers and if your US employer is genuine, paying good IT returns etc. then I think no one can deny visa. Try to get as many docs as you can from ur US employer/ consultants. If you are carrying all required docs with you then your confidence will automatically boost up. Don’t get hesitate to ask for all docs to ur employer/ consultant. Following docs are very very important:

a. Last 2-3 years IT returns
b. Wage unemployment report,
c. proj description (with proj timelines, no of Dev and QA, proj location, current phase of proj etc details)
d. US company photographs (inside and outside)
f. The contract copy between US employer and job site.

I have got one site address where you can see your employer/ consultant’s position. Details are available in different reports like, who are the top 20 H1 petitioner/ employer of 2005, 2006 etc, who are the top petitioner filer in 2005 , 2006 from particular state/city of US, Here is the site address: http://www.myvisajobs.com/reports/ . I hope this will helpful to you.

Good Luck to all visa aspirants.

Regards,
PONIL

Got 221 g from Chennai Consulate
I have attended the interview on october 15th in chennai consulate.

Visa Officer is a very strict guy it seems and he didn't laugh at all.

Also in front of me he gave 221 g for a girl by asking lots and lots of question to her. Also he asked lot of questions for two H4 persons and finally approved the H4 for them.

Finally my turn comes and i was very cool & confident.

VO: Hi
Me: Good Morning Sir.
VO: No response

VO: Give the folder please
Me: gave it.
VO: Are you a software Engineer?
Me: YEs
VO: What is your Highest degree?
Me; MCA
VO; Can you show the certificates?
ME; Showed
VO; Can you show Your Mark list?
ME; Showed
VO; Is YYYY is your petitioner?
ME: Yes
VO; Tell me about ZZZ?
ME: Explained.
VO; How many employees are working in ZZZ?
ME: ABC
VO; Can you show me the Tax Returns?
ME; Showed.
VO; Do you have any other paper related to this?
ME: No.
VO; Are you going to work in client place?
ME; No, I am going to work in internal product.
VO; What is the product?
ME; told some thing about that
VO: When they started this product and how many peoples are working in this?
ME; told the Month and no. of peoples

VO: OK, then he retained DS-156, 157 and returned other docs, passports to me and took the 221 g and ticked all points related to my petitioner and gave it to me. And told to me we need all these docs from your employer to grant you a visa.

The thing is, he was expecting latest tax returns and unemployment wage report from me it seems. If i would have carried that i would have cleared the interview.

Then asked me to submit these in VFS chennai drop box.

Also after my interview i was waiting for sometime to arrange my docs in my file, by that time i saw lot of peoples were carrying the same blue form (221 g). Also i referred with a guy with my 221 g and his 221 g, for him also they told need more docs from your petitioner.

So, i think getting H1 visa in chennai consulate is not a simple stuff. Bcos all the refusals are related to project only (i.e if you tell them its a client project they will ask for client details, letter etc... and if you tell them its a internal project they are asking more & more details about the petitioner).

So Guys/Girls please be strong about the project details and also make sure you have all project related docs.

Also try to get the latest Tax Returns and Unemployment Wage report from your employer.

Last but not least, this site is really a good one and after going through this site if you attend your interview you will be more confident & cool. All the best for those who are going to attend the interview in future.

Issued 221g in Chennai Consulate on 15-Oct-2007
hey all
I attended Chennai Consulate on 15th Oct.
Here goes my interview, VO was lady woth long brunette hair:

VO: Hello, How ru?
Me: Im doing good, Thanks for asking
    Howz ur day?

VO: Iam fine.
Me: Gave my folder.

VO: Do you work on YYYY company?
Me: Yeah. I've been working with them for XX yrs n XX mnths.

VO: Did you apply for student visa?
Me: No

VO: Have you ever apply for student visa?
Me: No

VO: Did you ever apply for student visa?
Me: (It came as a surprise to me. I didnt know why she insisted on it thrice. Then I remembered i once applied for univs some 4 yrs back. May be she has the record of them in her computer.) Yeah. I got I-20 for 2 univs but i didnt go to consulate for interview.

VO: When did you apply for the univs?
Me: 4 yrs bck

VO: What are the univs u applied for?
Me: (I gave one univ name) YYY

VO: Can I see ur certificates?
Me: Yeah. (Gave them to her)

VO: How did u come to know abt this company?
Me: (I told her the source and the interview process)

VO: Do u work on In-house / Client project?
Me: I will be working for the client YYY. (Gave her the brief intro abt the client.)

VO: Can see i the client letter?
Me: (Gave her the POs b/w my employer and the client, the Statement of Work and the other doc which my employer gave me as a proof of engagements they have with other companies.)
These docs contains the POs, project overview and the time estimates.

She got confused with the last doc which contains the additional work with the other client.

VO: Do you work for ZZZ project?
Me: No. I work the client YYY. The doc u were referring to is provided by my employer as a proof of additional going on at their side. My project doc is the one below the POs.

She gave a quick glance at it and turned towards her computer and typed with several mins.
She took the pen from her side, at this point i knew im gonna get the 221g. She again did something on the computer and finally took the blue form and wrote me the required docs for submission.

VO: U need to submit these docs ad submit at ur nearest VFS center.
Me: Do I need to drop my Passport.

VO: Yes.
Me: Thank U. Hav a gr8 day.

Thats how it went for me.
I guess i made two mistakes in my interview. one with the student visa part which i still dont understand whether they the record of the I-120 (My employer says they dont and its kinds wierd). the other one is submitting the additional doc my employer has provided.

What would be the chances if they asked me to submit the passport among with the required docs??

Its been a quite an experience and thnx for all the ppl who submit their experiences here. They are most certainly useful.

All the best.

Regards,
RK
