Nonimmigrant Visas
Applying for a Visa

English speaking nonimmigrant visa applicants from the Chennai consular district are now permitted to apply at the consular section at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi or the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai. If applying in Mumbai, applicants must follow the procedures regarding the submission of documents in advance of their scheduled interviews. All applicants must make their appointments via our off-site appointment provider, VFS. More information on how to apply can be found on the VFS website at http://www.vfs-usa.co.in

Please see the above url I have posted before this message!!

Althe best!!

Successful Stamping of H1 at Chennai Consulate on October 4th
Hi Immihelp, I got my H1B stamped this thursday, thanks for all your support, It was a bit hectic standing in the que for more than 5 hours as Monday was a Bundh, Tuesday was Gandhi Jayanthi, and there were a lot of people, would advice folks go in an hour early if you are going to the consulate in the next 2 weeks, after that it should be calm.

Visa Approved in Chennai on 4th Oct
Hi Everyone,

To start of thanks a ton for all those hundreds of messages which brought in valuable experiences to this forum.Trust me all these experiences good or bad help a person going into the interview with a mindset that he knows the process.
So i want to add my experience as well.

My Appointment was at 10:00 AM and i stayed at a hotel close to the counsulate ( Ranjith International Hotel). It was a 5 min walk from there. I reched the counsulate by around 9:00AM and was surprised to see a big long queue alredy waiting to get it. Do not panic to see such a long queue b'cos even if u ve an earlier appointment u can directly go to the front asking the security ppl down there.
Went in and found a pre processing section. Here for H1 they ask us to take all the mandatory Docs out. ( Appointment Letter,DS-156,DS-157, I-797,I-129,Offer Letter,Visa Issue request Letter ). Note : Please fill the section in DS-157 where they ask u to fill the name in Native Alphabet ( Eg:in telugu if ur mother tongue is telugu ) and also fill in the countries that u ve visited in the last ten years along with the dates ( most ppl to not fill in dates ) please be aware of making such simople mistakes. A well filled form is half job done believe me.

Later i was guided to the visa lobby ycentre. There we wait for our appoinment time to be called. We were called after 30 mins and were guided to a counter where our fingerprints were taken. Later stood in the queue for the stamping. It was a long stay and ultimately i got the chance of the interview at 3:00 PM ( be ready to stand in queue fro so long....) .

My interview process was real easy.

Me : Good Afternoon Officer. How are you doing?
VO: Fine Thank you .How about you.
Me : Fine Thank you.

As mentioned ablove all those mandatory docs are kept in a folder and i jus passed that folder. He looked at passport and other docs and then later ..

VO: Is it an inhouse Project or a Client Project?
Me: its a inhouse project.
Vo: what is the project about?
Me: Explained him about the project..( please answer such questions with clarity and confidence) I feel these questions help him make his mind.
Vo: How did u get this offer?
Me:explained him the process.....

That s it.... as everyone says ...those GOLDEN WORDS ...your visa is granted...u ll receive your passport in a few days.

The mantra of getting is Visa is not trying to act as if u r confident but talking sensibly.Preparation for the intertview is good ..but do not depend on the answers so much that u answer the same answers for completely different questions.
Guys i tried to be as explanatory as possible. This might be boring for some but helpful for many i hope.
Incase you need any further details you can always get in touch with me on my mail.

All the best.

Help me.... 221g chennai
Hello everybody,
I had my h1b visa last week. VO asked about my educational qualifications, current company, company in US and client. I was not able to explain the project description as I got the client letter from my employer on interview date only. VO asked me how many people work for my client. I said I have no idea. Then VO discussed some thing with senior members and said that they need to investigate the client and they will contact the client.

VO didn't asked for any documents and returned my passport. She said I need to wait for some time.

What does this mean? What will happen to my H1B?

Hi

As per rule where you work doesn't decide which Consulate you have to go to. You can only attend VISA interview at the Consulate which is mentioned in your Approval Notice.

Please do not go to any other consulate unless the reason is very strong and extremely genuine.
