H1B, H4 Visa

Hi Floks!!,

Good Morning!!
I was thru in getting my H1-B Visa to USA.
I attended the Chennai Consulate on 3rd of October at 2.15PM slot.
I was at the venue by 1.15PM. i was in the Queue. As you all know, Chennai is too sultry. it was almost like i took my sun bath. around 3PM i entered the first counter where i showed my Visa Appointment and my Passport. Then i was let inside the premises. There were 5 counters in the outside building. we waiting for some time, and the security incharge there asked us to make the the lines. i went into the 4th counter. there i waited for again almost one hour. here also lot of ppl were asked to produce more documents. only thing is they asked to bring them on that day itself. else, they have to retake the slot. luckily i had enough documents. so i submit hdfc pay slips, 2400 visa DD, passport, H1 approval papers. he went thru them, and kept all those documents in a green file and hand over to me. now i am entering into the main campus. i was totally nervous. i asked the security guard outside, abt the procedure. he told me that first i have to give finger printing and then i have to wait for the final discussion of visa. so i was bit relaxed by this time.
i entered inside, and it contains around 15 counters inside. i was asked to stand in a queue which contain 5 members (including myself).

there was a lady sitting in the counter. shez asking to put Left hand Index finger and Right hand index finger to scan them. after 2 ppl left, a couple(tamilians) who doesnt know english were not able to understand what the VO is telling. so i just helped them how to put the finger(as i already come to know thru some of my friends who attended visa). now a security guard came near me, and said to go to next counter as its free. i was still in the mood that its just for finger priniting and have to wait for final round. so i was bit relaxed. it was 4.30 PM i reached this counter where my visa slot is at 2.15PM.

ME: GOOD EVENING

VO: GOOD EVENING SIR

VO: CAN U GIVE YOUR H1B APPROVAL FORM SIR

ME: SURE

VO: CAN U PUT YOUR LEFT HAND INDEX FINGER( WHILE GOING THRU MY DOCUMENTS)

ME: YEAH

VO: NOW YOUR RIGHT HAND INDEX FINGER SIR

ME: DONE

VO: THANKS SIR

( I WAS STILL THINKING THAT ITS JUST FOR INDEX FINGER PRINTING)

VO: R U MARRIED SIR!!??

ME: NO, SINGLE

VO: CAN I SEE YOUR EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATES

ME: YEAH, SURE. (I HAND OVER MY GRADUATION - B.SC COMPUTER SCIENCE)

VO: SO YOU DID YOUR GRADUATION IN MATHS,PHYSICS N CS

ME: NO, I DID MY PG - MCA (AND HAND OVER THEM TOO)

VO: SO YOU DID YOUR MASTERS, GOOD

( THEN HE OPENED THE URL OF MY XYZ COMPANY)

VO: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN XYZ ??

ME: I AM GONNA DO WORK FOR THEIR PROJECT

VO: WHOZ THE CLIENT!!??

ME: THEREZ NO CLIENT. ITS A PRODUCT DEVELOPED BY XYZ COMPANY ITSELF.

VO: SO ITS AN IN-HOUSE PROJECT!!??

ME: YEAH.

VO: WHATZ YOUR ROLE FOR THIS PROJECT??

ME: ITS A LONG TERM MAINTENANCE PROJECT AND SOME ENHANCEMENTS WHICH I HAVE TO HANDLE.

VO: OK. THANK YOU SIR. YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR PASSPORT WITH IN COUPLE OF DAYS. ALL THE BEST!!

PS: GUYZ N GALZ, ITS EASY TO SO JUST GO INTO THE CONSULATE WITH FULL CONFIDENCE. BUT ITS REALLY HARD BEING SO. EVEN IF WE HAVE FULL PREPARED N ITS MERELY ON OUR LUCK THAT WE WILL GET VISA. THAT SHORT SPAN OF TIME WILL SHOW WHERE WE ARE!!??
SO GUYS JUST KEEP FAITH IN GOD OTHER THAN URSELF. HEZ THE ONE WHOZ GONNA BLESS YOU WITH BRIGHT FUTURE. ALL THE BEST.

I handed to him

VO: Do you know the address of your Client?
Me: I wish I knew it, but I do not have it as of now.

VO: So you do not know where you are going to work???
Me:I think I need to know the address of my Employer and the Contact details of them . If I am going straight to my Client.. I would have filled the Clients name in the DS-156

VO asked my present work Experience.

After that....

VO: Please collect your docs and leave.. Your passport will arrive in a few days

CONFIDENCE!!!!! a lot of CONFIDENCE. Coz it is the only weapon you can choose to get someone in 5-10 minutes.

Hi

Myself attended for H1 Visa Interview on 4th Oct, 2006 with my wife who is also attending for H4 Visa.

I went thru BEP Route. And they asked me one and only one question regarding my Client location.

After that they asked my wife regarding marriage date and native place details.

They didnt check any of my original docs. I suppose its becoz of BEP.

Finally they told that ur visa got approved.

I jst thanked them and back.

Its Jst 3min time i spent there with VO.

Hello Ppl

I have few queries pre-interview:

1) what is the difference between client project and in-house project? My consultant has mentioned that i am into a in-house project in the offer letter. what should i say to the VO? should i carry any proofs?
2) my consultant has given me a offer letter on a plain printout with signatures. should i be asking for an offer letter on his company letter head?
3)should there be a mention of bench salary in the offer letter?

First of all I would like to extend my sincere gratitude & heartfelt thanks 4 this site owner & all the experiences.

I got my H1-B stamping on 5th at Mumbai. I could learn many things in great detail from this site which helped me to face my visa interview smoothly. I really appreciate 4 the informations & directions.

My interview took very few minutes with the VO. It's just a formality and following questions were asked:

Me: Good afternoon Mam.
VO: Good afternoon.
VO: Are you working in USA?
Me: No.
VO: How did you managed to get this job?
Me: from xxxxxxxx jobsite.
VO: How many rounds of interview you had?
Me: 3 rounds. Two technical interviews & one personal interview by the company folks.
VO: What is your role in US company?
Me: zzzzzz. (I mentioned my role as defined in
    the offer letter of the company).
VO: Well when are going to join.
Me: zzzzzz date & Month.
VO: O.K. You are granted & u will get it after
    two days.
Me: Thank you Mam!

As everyone mentioned, I would like to emphasize that, b confident by appearence, follow the dress code (like VO), never give the body language clue that ur tensed. And finally one word keep ur papers in sequence. That's all. All the best 4 all H1-B aspirants! Thanks 4 enerything.

My interview lasted a total of 3 long mins.
Better reach there atleast 1 hr before as theres a big line there for the morning batch which I was part of.
Herse how it went

ME : Good Morning
VO : Good Morning

ME : HOW are you mam.
VO : fine. how r u doing.
ME : I am fine.

VO : Do you have any US visa before?
ME : YES.

VO : Where did you go and how long were you there?
ME : X1 and XX months

VO : Who are you working with?
ME : YYYY company.
VO : Where were you before this?
ME : YYYY company.

VO : OK seems good I am granting you a visa.
ME : Thanks a lot.

Moral of the story : If you already have a US visa and have travelled in the past its easy.

This is a very useful site. I have a doubt regarding the consulate where i am going to attend the interview. Actually my native place is chennai, but since i work in pune for last 4 years i had booked my interview slot in Mumbai consulate, but today when i received the H1 approval notice from my consultant i was shocked to see that the consulate mentioned in the petition is chennai. I am looking at the "Class Consulate or POE" section where is mentioned as "H1B chennai".

So please let me know if i can attend the interview at a different consulate than the one mentioned in the petition.

I have applied for my H4 Visa and my appointment is next year.They have mentioned to submit w2 form for all years since he got his H1b.He got his H1b during June 2004 but he got job only in November.So we have the tax returns for only November and december for 2004.4 months he was in bench period during 2004.But we will get the W2 forms for 2005 perfectly without any break.Kindly let me know whether it will create problem or VO will ask anything abt it.Kindly guide me what should be my answer if the VO ask me anything about his bench period.Guide me plzzzzzz.

Just wanted to share my experience with you.

My Interview was on 4th Oct 2006 07:15 am.

We (myself, Wife and Kid) reached the consulate at 7:00. Since we had a kid, the security asked us not to stand in the Queue and just proceed inside.

The Lady in the counter got all the papers and arranged properly in a Green Folder. Stappled the DD to the Passport. Gave a orange color form along with the Folder.

Did the finger scanning at 7:30. Waited for 10 mts, since the BEP counter was not open.

The counter opened at 7:40 and we were second in the Queue. The first person was a kid who was applying for H4 visa. Since the kid was the only applicant there was one lady accompanying the kid. The kid got the H4 visa.

We went to the counter at 7:45. Gave the BEP folder to the VO.

Me: Good Morning Sir
No reply from the VO.

VO: Who is your employer
Me: YYYY Company

VO: What are you going to do there
Me: Explained in 2 sentences

I was about the take some documents from my file folder

VO: I dont want to see any documents..

I was shocked.. and waited for another 5 seconds. The VO was checking something on the computer System.

VO: Your visa is approved and you will get the Passport in 4 days.

Me: Big Smile on my face.. Thank you sir.

No questions to my wife and kid. Came out. It was hardly 2 mts with the VO officer.

It was my luck that the VO officer did not ask much question and did not even check a single document. May be it is because I went thru the BEP route.

Make sure you have all the documents and pray to God

Bad agreement is giving at the time travel to usa and people are getting mad at him .
Here his agreement and wants parents to get into agreement..very bad company and also less pay not good concern....
