Hi Forum,
Firstly i would like to thank immihelp for putting up a platform where we can voice and see the concerns of gettinga US visa.
Also a note of advice to all the people here. Reading this forum, most of you might think getting a H1 at first attempt is a no-no or is completely screwed up, be at chennai or
delhi. But thats really not the case. Since most of the members who get stamped dont come back and write their experiences, the successful experiences are least here.
Also i strongly believe that, the candidates background in terms of his educn. , num of yrs of IT experience and your current employer play a major role here.
Anyways the key is how you present yourself when you face the VO.
My background is BE Electrical&Electronics with 6.5 yrs of IT experience and my current employer is one among top3 indian companies. This is my first travel outside india and no other stamping whatsoever.
Actually in jan-end i had booked a slot at chennai, but seeing/hearing so many 221Gs there, my employer asked me to book a slot in Delhi instead. I am from blore, but he said, delhi consulate is cool and they dont bother you much.
Here is how the interview went
I had a slot at 8:30 and i was at consulate by 7:40, once in the line at the first window they verify your DS forms, I797 and DDs. There he staples those docs to your passport and asks you to enter the main inteview building. Delhi is really cool, they allow your mob phones inside (but need to keep it off) and bags/covers etc all are allowed inside. You just need to go through a security check/scan. They dont give you seperate folders too to keep your docs seperately. Just arrange them in some file and take it inside. After scanning your index fingers (both hands) you stand in a line. There are 3 boxes and 3 VOs and you dont have a choice to choose them. Two are ladies (one 50 another 25) and one guy (30 yrs) all seem to be good except the old lady.
I donno why my gut feeling wanted to me goto that guy, but when my turn came it was with that 25 yr of lady. Before my case, she was asking lots of ques to the earlier candidate, i think he got stamped finally.
So when my turn came here is what happened -
As i was walking (and wanted to say Good morning)
VO: Hi, how are you !
Me: Good morning, i am fine thankyou (not sure she heard that )
VO: Is this the first time you are going to US ?
ME: Yes madam this is the first time.
VO: Can i see your passport and those pinned docs ?
ME: Slided those through the small opening in the window.
VO: Why didnt you goto Chennai ?
ME: The waiting time there is very high something like 6-7 months. I have a important assignment in US and my employer wants me to come there urgently.
VO: Couldnt you have planned before
ME: Yes i could have, but i received the docs from my employer late and since chennai dates were hight 6-7 months i chose delhi instead.
VO: After 10sec Why do you want to goto US
ME: Madam, primarily to improve my career. There are lots of companies in US who are now opening a offshore dev. centre here in india, i want to goto US to learn the offshore model and business culture, programming styles and ocme back to india and then look to become a Offshore co-ordinator.
VO: What will you do in US
ME: I will be working on embedded systems and RTOS programming.
VO: Whst is your educn. qual and where did you graduate from
ME: BE (Electrical and Electronincs) from *** Univ.
VO: Can i see your degree cert.
ME: I gave them
VO: Your degree is not purely in computers ?
ME: After my degree i have been trained in computers and programming at some computer institutes and right after that i am being employed in software companies. ( I didnt think too much as to what to answer, just maintain eye contact and be confident in whatever you are saying)
VO: (Seem silent)Where will u work in US
ME: ### company
VO: Oh, so your current employer is not your petitioner ?
ME: No.
(Actually its a consultant)
VO: She was typing somethingon her comp and was busy ( i think she was searching about my petitioner details on web) for 10-15sec
VO: Ok done, you will recieve your passport through courier. I am done with you.
ME: My face really lit up and said thanks. I bent down to collect my polythene. I faced her and said, can i now go madam.
VO: Yup, you are done.
ME: Thanks, and i left.
Guys, as you can see she didnt ask any damn docs, i had carried quite a few of them (and ofcourse no client letters ). I think she must have sensed a strong case here and with my background and confidence hence she issued a visa.
So freshers here who are awaiting their turns, and if you think chennai is real bad, then better resched to delhi you might loose on 2/3 months but getting a visa is sure !
