H1B, H4 Visa

Myself & my wife attended for H1B/H4 on Jan 09 at Chennai consulate. I was tracking this discussion forum for quite sometime.It really helped me interms of preparing for the interview,documents required etc.,

My best wishes for H1B/H4 aspirants.My interview questions:-

VO: Hi
Me: Hi, Good Morning
Me: Pushed inside the folder containing Passports/DS 156/DS157/I797C & I129 docs.
VO:Reviewed for a min
VO:Let me start with easy questions first and then move on to harder ones? ( I was really tensed when he said so...)
VO:When did you get married? (To my wife)
Wife: YYYY year
VO:ur wife's DOB? ( never expected this question all of sudden. confused?@# for a sec)
Me:Told correctly but slowly. (He didnt get it properly... probably thought that i would make a mistake here)
VO:Which company are you going to work for in USA?
Me: YYYY company
VO:Are you going to work for the employer or at the client site?
Me:Client site ( luckily my employer had sent me a contract order for the project i will be working on)
VO:Explain the project?
Me: detailed the project
VO:What's the client name/company?
Me: YYYY company
VO:Can you show me the document proof for that project you will be working with that client?
Me: Passed him the document which explained abt the project.
VO: Asked abt Degree Certificate?
Me: Showed
VO:Current company & Prior company appointment letter?
Me: Showed
VO:Marriage Photos
Me: Showed him around 15 photos.( My suggestion to you all dont show the entire album.VO might show his discomfort in seeing the entire album.Moreover there is a little space where you can push thru the entire album)
VO: Once again asked me which place in USA im gonna work.
Me:Told him YYYY place
VO: YYYY is a great place.
VO: Have a nice trip!!
VO:Go & pay the fees at the Counter# 1
Me & wife: Thank you.

More than any documents proof what i noticed is that we should be confident when we answer to any of his/her questions. Dont hesitate or give false information that might give a bad impression.

Hi,

Anybody can tell what are the documents we have to show in VFS for paying the fees and getting the receipt no,using which we are scheduling the interview. Now a days the calender of earlier dates is not accessable in the VFS site, any Idea?

first i thank this site for providing valuable information for people who are going to face the interview in the embassy.
I had the H1 B interview on jan 5th .and i got 221 G form asking for some project details etc.
do i need to fill the Ds-156 form again .because VO has taken my Ds156 form on that day.

Hi all,

   let me thanks to all who have posted their experiance on this site till now, what ever it is a success or 221g. Every posting gives a experiance, which is invaluable. Mine appointment was at 12.30 on 9th jan. i reached there around 11.00 am. but till 12.00 it was simply wastage of time. Even though i will recomend everyone to reach atleast one hour before. As In Chennai language problem is biggest hurdle to face and the autorikshaw drivers are very uncooperative. so take some time in buffer to face any kind of challange while tavelling upto consulate. secuirity allows me to et in at 12.00. then initial varification of documents were done just inside the gate. there were 5 counters for varification. In front of every counter there will be a queue. you can stand in any queue. Here Indian officers will varify the documents to facilitate the process. after varification they will ask you to go for interview and will put your documents in a folder which will be provided to you later on.

when you will be standing in queue your documents will be returned to you after initial varification.

Inside the hall you have to go first for fingerprints. The officer will be a US officer. Please behave very well to him also. As no one knows he also can write some input abot you. afeter that you will reach in front of VO. here is the conversation which happened with me and VO :-

VO : Hi Sir
Me : Hi Mam, Good Afternoon
VO : A very good after noon sir, Can I see your passport please
( I hand over the passport to her )
Vo : Can i have the folder please.
Me : sure mam ( handed over folder to her )
VO : Can I see your degree certificate
Me : I hand over the degree certificate file to her
Vo : For which company you are going to work ?
Me : YYYY X ( Be very specific)
VO : which location you are going to work ?
Me : YYYY X ( Be very specific)
VO : In which project you are going to work ?
Me : I don't know.
VO : why your wife has not come with you ?
Me : told the reason. (honestly)
VO : can I see the Tax return of the company.
me : handed over to her
VO : Ok I am issuing your visa . you can pay the fee at counter.
me : Thanks mam. have a great day
Vo : Good day


My interview was very short for 10 minutes hardly. But Only reason i have found is that i was well prepared. before hading over the folder to her every thing i have managed in that..

what I have felt that they also want to give Visa to you. but you have to be very honest and sincere while answering to those people. I have realized every officer was very sincere and doing his/her job honestly and they expect the same thing from you.

so my tips :

1. arange the documents properly before reaching to VO
2. be honest and confident . if you dont know any thing say it polietely and confidently that you dont know it or you dont have or you have not got from your employer as per the answer.
3. Dressing sense (wear a light color suit/ shirt+ tie)


I think these tips works fine in most of the approval cases.

If any one has experienced same problem as mine, pls respond back as early as possible.
Well, I am sekhar working on Oracle Apps in a big MNC, Hyderabad. I initially attended for H1B on 3rd of Nov. Interview went pretty well, and VO satisified with every thing and lastly asked for my client details. I said my client is so and soo . Then he asked for any client info for which i said i dont have right now but if needed i can produce. Then he issued me 221g by ticking client details required. Then later i attnded consulate again in 1st week of dec. VO looked at my client details and said, he needs further clarification and verification on my client details which will take some time and took my DS forms and the H1 petion . He returned my passport. He said he will inform me through mail or a letter when he is done with the verification. Today, i got a letter from chennai consulate saying, i need to attend consulate on any monday with both DS forms and the passport. Its mentioned in the letter that if i dont attend the consulate in 60 days, my case will be adversely impacted in future. What does it mean? can i expect positive response when i attened this time? has any one got the letter in the same way as i got? what are the chances now like? has any one got the letter like this and got the visa stamped? pls do respond me if any one of u faced similar situation.

 my surname and given name got messed up in the visa ..do u have any idea how much time it take to get it corrected from consulate..i have given the passport back to VFS

Shortly I am going for H1B with my Wife and Son. I am not clear on Documents to be filled in for their H4 Visas. Also let me know DDs to be taken for them (I have booked through TTS).
