L1A Blanket Approved
First of all thank you Immihelp and this group for sharing your experiences which helped me to prepare for my L1A.

Now its time for me to pay back.

Today Sept/6, I attended my L1A-Blanket visa IV at Chennai US consulate and its approved and below is my exp

VO : GM
Me : GM, hwr,

VO: Am good how r u
Me: Am good

VO: So which company do you work for sir
Me: xyz (a well known semi conductor giant)

VO: how long are u associated with xzy
Me: 5y

VO: Which class are you applying for A / B sir ?
Me: L1A

VO: How many reporters will you have in US sir ?
Me: I m a functional manger, so I dont have any reporters
here in India i m both functional as well as line manager

VO: So which function do you manage ?
Me: I manage xyz function, which is very essential for my abc company.

VO: Plz elaborate your role
Me: Role specific description clearly stating
       a. why my role is functional manager
       b. how do i do it in very plain (non-engg) terms w/o any tech jargon
       c. who all work for me in that role and their capacities
       d. sample and simple contributions (like patents, publications .etc) pulled up my resume
           and showed it to him

I felt the VO is convinced, he did not add any more questions on role on top of above.

VO: whats your US salary ?
Me: xyz , and pqr with shares and other benefits (a good 3 digit K PA)

Again here I felt that VO in convinced that this is real senior manager role, but not an Individual contributor role, based on the above salary figure.

I myself have seen couple of L1A rejections salary @ Double Digit K USD PA while standing in the line, so I believed that they correlate if L1A is really manager by salary or its just an IC claiming to be a manager. but this just my opinion built on 2 samples.

Thats it my IV is done, now VO started talking to my wife while hes endorsing L1A on my I-129

VO: How long hav u been married mam
Mywife: 5

VO; how old is ur kid
MW: 3y

VO: whos taking care of her today
MW: our parents

Done.

VO: Your visa is approved. Plz collect your passports in your preferred pickup location.

Thanks once again guys and good luck.
Its just my experience, that I shared to help the community - Not legal advice.

L1 B - Not Clearly Approved
Hi,

I had my L1 Blanket interview of Sep-2nd at Chennai. It wasn't approved. Below were the questions

The VO was constantly starring the monitor and typing things. She did not pay much attention.

VO: Good Morning.
Me: Good Morning. How are you doing today?

VO. Im Good. How are you?
Me: Im good. Thank You.

<Handed over my Doc.(passport, DD receipt and 3 copies of I-129S and I-797)>. She went through it.

VO: Is it a L1A or L1 B?
Me: L1B

VO: Which Company?
Me: XYZ

VO: How long have you been working with XYZ?
Me: Its been 2 years now.

VO: Where will you be travelling?
Me: ABC, DEF

VO: Will you be working for any client?
Me: No, I will be working directly for my Home Office

VO: What will be your designation once you go there?
Me: Application Developer - Lead

VO: whats your current salary per annum?
Me: YYYY XX

VO: Whats your specialization?
Me: I belong to XYZ System. We have a framework which performs 3 times faster than the previous System. I developed it. We are the first to do it in our Company. So, my Manager wanted me to be there, to work on the next things.

VO: Whats your team size?
Me: 7

VO: The other can't work on this?
Me: No. I'm the one who developed it. The others are working on other products.

<Silence for 5 secs. while she was typing >

VO: The framework which you said, what it does?
Me: The Framework helps the applications to connect with the Backend System, . Its 3 times faster than the conventional Systems.

The VO kept on typing.
Finally,

VO: Your VISA is not clearly approvable. Ask your HR to apply in an appropriate category. She gave back 2 copies of I-129 S and I-797 and my passport

I was confident till my last moment that she would approve my case. Could not believe that she gave my passport back. I was totally disappointed.

I have a total of 6 years experience, out of which 2 years with the current company. Not sure, what went wrong. I know, I have the niche combination skillset which is not available in the company, else my Manger wouldn't want me to be there.

Thinking about my next steps. Any suggestions?

L1 visa subjective questions
Although I appreciate the effort people here make in sharing their experiences, but I hardly come across any post that actually describes the answers to the subjective questions like "what specialization?", "how many reportees?", "US salary", etc. I'm not sure how just listing the VO's questions and your responses like "Answered" helps anyone. No offense but the set/list of VO's questions more or less remains the same (and has remained the same over the years), and it's always good to know each and every question that was asked. But the difference lies in the answers to the subjective questions...which a very very few people share.

"Answered" does not help much.

Please, please, please do start sharing your subjective responses too; it will really help others understand what you exactly meant was "crisp", "to-the-point", "detailed", "in 3-4 lines", etc. Even a vague and 50% accurate summary too will be of much help. No one is asking you here to share your SSN, Passport No., Date of Wedding, etc. Just the subjective answers.

Do mention what you felt was your key answer that resulted in approval/rejection. Most of the times people do not realize what level of "crispiness" or "detail" the VO is looking for, and what roles/responsibilities might go for/against an approval/rejection.

Thanks!
Saurabh

L1B finally approved
If you scroll through to June 20 experiences you would find my full page rant.

My L1B Blanket was rejected in June,2016 in chennai. I was there with my family and with just 3 question, I felt it was unjust to reject without even hearing full answer.

It was hard time after rejection, as mine was first rejection in my company and I was confident that it'll be approved. most of my home stuff was sold and had to move out of my rented house too.

Anyhoo, my company decided to apply for L1B-Individual, under premium processing. I wasn't very excited and just went with it, as "what the heck"

The Attorneys prepared very detailed and well versed petition. The petition got approved after 5 days of filing. I got my interview scheduled in Delhi embassy this time.

OFC:-

biometric in delhi is not as well managed as it's in Chennai. Although DS-160 page clearly says that we don't have to change the Consulate name in DS-160 confirmation page it should work at any consulate. They didn't accept and I had to go a nearby place (for profit Visa help center) who charged 100 RS for letting me use the PC to generate new DS-160 with delhi embassy.

Adding to that, they didn't allow us to carry our bag, with our infant daughter's stuff, and no arrangement to keep the bags out anywhere either. So me and my wife had to take turns to go in.

Also, chennai OFC center allowed us to skip the lines because of our 4 month old, here we had stand in the queue full time with our daughter.

Over all 15 minute task done in 2 hours.

EMBASSY:-

Things were much easier at embassy, Delhi embassy has no place to drop your mobile phones, so we had to leave our's at hotel. It's not as crowded as Chennai consulate, movement is much smoother, we didn't have to wait at many places because of infant with us. I was in front of the VO in 30 minutes.

 greetings , Handed passport

Q. Is this your first L1 application ?
Ans: No, My L1B blanket was rejected in chennai, with form 221g

(looked up my petition details, got up and came back in few minutes)

Q. Where do you work ?
A YYYY company subsidiary of YY in US

Q How long have you been working there?
A 3+ years

Q. how many year have been working with them ?
A XYZ years

Q. what's your specialization ?
A explained in 3-4 sentences

Q How many people have this special knowledge here ?
A only me in Asia pacific

Q How many experts in US ?
A 3 more

Q will you be working with them ?
A. No we cover different geographies, i'll handel south west .

Q How long have you been married ?
A X years

Congratulation your VISA is approved.

No questions to my wife.

We thanked her and came out in disbelief, that it's finally done.

Final note : i guess if L1-Individual is approved it's pretty much a done deal. you just have to prove that you are that person.

L1A Blanket Rejected
I had a PA on 2-Sep along with my Wife and Kid. I was confident on answers and VO asked almost 10 questions and i convinced for all the questions. VO didn`t ask any question and response to my wife and Kid. When we reached the counter, there was a person for L1B and VO asked him to sit in Lobby and VO went to check internally to the team. When our turns came, he asked us to come.
I prepared a lot for this PA and answered well, but i might be fast in some answers.

L1 B visa experience
Hi,

My L1B was approved on 1st Sep, 2016 and now is time to give back to the community here. All questions were similar to those mentioned in the previous posts.

Few things in addition to those posts mentioned are as follows:

 1. Be confident and precise. Don't give long stories.

2. Please go through your petition thoroughly and give answers according to that. If you are going to work from your US office, mention it loud and clear.

3. Don't dress up to impress. Merely formals should suffice. People with full suit blazers were rejected. Your comfort is important.

4. As far as possible do not speak in American accents. If you genuinely speak that way, then its ok else please stick to normal accent.

5. Lastly, please have someone in your family take up your mock interviews. It really helps boost your confidence.

6. Dont ask suggestions on how to improve to the VO. There was this lady before me (whose visa got rejected) started asking the VO on how to crack the interview. The VO replied that it was not her job to counsel or guide her.

Best of luck.

Thanks
