dependent applicant - L2 - spouse - consulate collected her passport and issued 221G pink form
US consulate - Chennai

I am working in IT field and over 8+ year experience with US based product company. Mine and my kid visa was approved but spouse got a 221G pink form. No additional information was requested by US consulate and all information like marriage date, marriage certificate, marriage photographs etc was provided during VO questioning.
Just want to check if anyone else faced this situation.
Not able to understand the reason for L2 spouse getting pink form as one L2 dependent was given visa.

Firstly, thanks a lot to this forum which helped us a lot to prepare for the interview :) .

Few things to be taken care of before the start of interview-
1)Make sure that you are standing in the right queue outside the consulate office, there will be different queues based on the time slot given for ur interview
2)dont carry any bags
3)ensure that the photo is recent and is without specs.
4) do carry some cash with you.
5)Carrying handerkerchief is also suggested esp. for the ppl who have sweaty palms.

Few questions asked to my husband during the interview-
We: Good morning!
VO: Good morning. show me your documents sir.
VO: So what you do in your company?
He:Explained about his current role.
VO: Which client you work for?
He: We dont work for any clients as such, ours is a product company.
VO: Whats ur package here?
He: ZZZ( in LPA)
VO: Where you will be working in US?
He:Atlanta, Georgia
VO(To me):How long have u been married?
Me: X yrs
VO: How did u guys meet?
Me: ZZZ.
Our interview was over in 3-4 min.

Observations:
1) As many ppl have already posted, maintain eye contact.
2) Based on our experience it looked like the package and the company you work for matters a lot. Product based company is given lil weightage.
3)Be confident and have faith in God :)

L1 B Approved @ Chennai on May 16th, 2012
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in posting.
I got my L1 B visa approved @ Chennai consulate approved.
The overall process is simple and took less than 45 mins.
Finally when I was standing in the queue for interview, VO skipped me and called the next person, as my token number was already showing as serving when he was interviewing the person before me. So I have to ask the helper guys to talk to the VO, but they asked me to talk to him. By that time couple of people is already done. I went after them and then started telling my token number, but didn’t even listen to me and called for the next person. I have to stop him and told the story, and then he got my documents and started with the questions directly.
No Good morning and formalities!
a) Which client you are going to work?
b) He asked me spell the name. It seemed like he was checking in the computer for the name
c) Can I see your cover letter, why your company recommends for this category?
d) What is your specialization?
e) Oh this is data analysis, Why can’t this be done my a statistician?
Ans : I have to defend by telling about the tools that we use internally and my involvement in developing the methodologies?
f) What are doing for past 4 years in this company?
Ans : Same
g) You salary in India?
Then he stopped and started writing something on the papers (I didn’t know what was it, after I got the papers I got to know it is the visa expiry date) stamped and singed it.
Finally he gave couple of forms back and told me, you will receive your passport in a week. (I received it in 3 days).
I said thank you and left.
Tips:
1) You don’t have to be over dress, just a formals will do.
2) Make sure you explain you specialization correctly and relevantly.
3) Everybody will be nerves, so don’t worry too much and do your duty. You may blabber here and there, so mind that and continue to explain what need to the point.
Bottom line: If your case is genuine and relevant to the category, they won’t mind to approve the visa. Luck may or may not matter.

Good Luck!!!

L1B visa appoved on 13th June
Hello All,

First things first. It really doesn't matter the organisation you belong to. I belong to the top 3 Indian MNCs. Try to understand the meaning of L1B. It is ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIALIZED SKILLS. So, common domains are likely to be rejected. Ex: i am a network engineer, so it would not have been wise on my part to tel them that my specialization is networking. Instead, i chose something which is really fresh in market. i.e. citrix load balancers. If you use a Tool, it should be used in conjunction with the technologies you are working on.

You need to convince the VO on the following 4 things which are very critical:

1.) Your specialization
2.) If you use proprietary Tools and now that they have been developed, why can't your client hire someone onshore and train them to work on the same Tool?
3.) Why has the client/parent company chosen only you to work onshore?
4.) The work that you gonna do in US; why can't it be done from offshores?
5.) why can’t the associates already based out of onsite handle the work?

Also, it would be an advantage if you manage to get client's invitation letter..In my case, B1 was refused last time around (11 months back) and i was not given any reason for refusal. It seems probably the VO asked for client invitation letter and till then, my org did not provide such a letter for B1. But since my interview, trends changed and they started giving it for B1s. This time, i made sure that i have it handy going for L1B as well.

Questions that i was asked:
1.) What work are you going to do in the U.S./

I told her i would be going there for revamping client's load balancing infrastructure from F5 to citrix netscalers and from Cisco to Arista switching. After deploying the devices, i would be configuring them using a Tool which has led to increase in productivity and reduction in human errors.

2.) She then asked what exactly does load balancers do?

I explained it to her very briefly in 2 sentences.

3.) Since how long have you been a part of this project?

1 yr, 9 months

Guys, my experience is < 5 yrs and i have been with this client for < 2 yrs...so > the experience, more chances of getting visa approved is all a MYTH...

Doesn't matter if its a product based company or services based company..prepare well for all those questions, no one in this world can stop you from getting the VISA.

Yes, CONFIDENCE and wearing a SMILE is very important..

l1b blanket
Nothing unusual was asked. All standard questions, like the ones mentioned by other L1B applicants.

My observations:
- It is confidence and excitement in your tone and communication that does make a difference.
- Years of experience is vital factor.
- If you believe you should get it, and the same gets communicated through your communication, you wil get the VISA.
- My pic was not accepted, hence got a new one done there and then- this delayed my iview by 1 hour- but it really did not matter. So dont worry if you reach late.

Good Luck to All!
