INR and USD Salary Impact on Visa Approval
Hi,

Would like to know the impact of the INR and USD salary for L1 Visa. Does a good INR (seven figure) and USD (six figure) salary increase the chances of approval.

Thanks,

Thanks for this forum...it helped really well.
Had my turn on 11 May @Chennai

VO - Where are you coming from?
VO - Its a long journey..
VO - So its a Blanket or Individual - ok its Blanket.
VO - How many years are you with <company>?
VO - What is your income per annum?
VO - what are your specialized skills?
hint - guys explain here your specialized skills/knowledge that you developed working with previous projects and not the C# or Java language skills.
VO - How many are specialized on this area?
VO - Can i have a exact no. of people specialized on the same?

<Granted>

P.S. - Be yourself!

My L1A - Individual approved yesterday.

Standard questions as mention in this forum.

To me:
what does your company do?
how many reportee in India/US?
Indian Salary in Lakh?
Your role in US?

To mywife:
Marriage date

Few observations:
There were many rejections in various other categories. Though I did not see any rejection which can be contributed to luck, but as posted in this forum, I believe luck must be a factor in few cases. However, rest 50% of the rejections were due to purely poor preparation for the interview in general.
 Dressing: Whatever you wear, make sure you have tucked shirt, combed hairs. Face clean from sweat (Chennai is very humid and there are no ACs inside, instead big fans making you look waking from bed. Things are simple but I saw many individuals dressing as if they have come for Train reservation.
 If you don’t answer the questions exactly in first two lines of your answers, you are unknowingly wasting VOs time which they don’t like. Hence you MUST answer the question in first two lines and then continue with the background that justifies your answers. E.g. a candidate was asked why particular school. She started with her past application… and VO stopped her twice!! First answer the question e.g. School has expertise in ABC and I am looking for ABC. Then go deeper what ABC is and why is that your choice. I saw few cases where VO got so much irritated that she repeated her question once and then strait away went for rejection stamp.
 Specialized skill is a grey area. Hence I don’t know what makes or breaks the interview (Confidence, Indian MNC vs Global MNC, Domain vs Proprietary module, Language, client, past experience or current salary…)
 L1A is a check list… Mostly you can bolster your chance with working on individual points (You Indian Role vs US role – must include hiring, firing, appraisal etc.). You can’t manage other imp variables (Designation, salary, number of reportees). No rocket science! But prepare your answers to keep in line with your petition. Because most things are facts then narration (role), Luck plays relatively lesser role then in case of L1B. Good thing is one always knows what is the next step, unlike L1B where at times one is rejected without much further guidance.
 Body language: Mind the way you stand at Visa window. Mike is at chest level (for a 5 feet 6 inch guy) and they are working fine from the distance… so no need to band down to speak closer to the mike. It makes a crushing sound when you go near to mike and you won’t be audible. Hence maintain a distance. Best idea is forget that there is any mike. Also, you look very abnormal when you stand on one lag and body leaning forward and constantly moving your body while answering. Just observe the VO who stands still, speaks with clarity in voice. No need to move constantly (sign of nervousness). Head on your shoulder rather than leaning here and there. Eye contact is must! You don’t have to speak aloud. Speak with the speech audible to a person at two arms length distance and not audible to someone at 7 to 10 arm distance.

Go with clarity of your thoughts, why this decision, why you believe you possess specific skills or why you believe you are at senior executive position. Forget about VO, fist you have to believe that you are at senior executive position. Be someone who has vision for his/her team, clarity of goals (short term and long term). Also, apart from convincing yourself mention your answer to your friends who do not know much about your job and ask them to judge whether you sounds like supervisor or executive. Trust me any decent human can make out a difference. It does not require any big diagnostic skills.
Again, I am no expert so my observations may be flawed. Please consider as observation of a novice who has visited consulate only twice so far! All the best to all!

Thanks for all posting the exeriences in the website because of which I and my wife could clear the interview.

I was asked the following questions by the VO:

VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning Officer
VO: What are you going to do in US?
Me: I will be working on YYYY project as YYY as well as ZZZ.
VO: What are your specialized skills?
Me: I am specialized YYY tool as well as ZZZ tools such as AAA and BBB.
VO: How long you are working in the project?
Me: X months
VO: What is YYY and how did you gained the knowledge on it?
Me: Said the full form of the tool its usage and how I have the knowledge on the tool

The VO then turned and started asking the questions to my spouse and I was now relaxed as I had the feeling that mine Visa might go through.

VO: How long you have been married?
Wife: Around 3 years.
VO: Can you show me your marraige certificate?
Wife: Showed the certificate.
VO: Which area of Kerala is Palakkad located (seeing at the marraige certificate)?
Wife: On the malabar side of Kerala the place Palakkad is located.

VO also asked to show my daugther's birth certificate and then returned marraige certificate as well as birth certificate.

Then came the golden words for which we were waiting "Your Visa is approved and you would receive in 7 days.

For all visa interview candidates the suggestion is as below:

1) Be calm and patient while speaking to the VO and maintain eye to eye contact with a cheerful smile.
2) Be confident and prepare your answers for various questions posted in the site well in advance.
3) Be sure that you combine your answers with your L1B petition and DS-160 which is must as the VO are definitely seeing those once your interview are started.
4) Carry only the files and documents with you and leave bags and mobile phones at hotel rooms so that you can entirely focus on the interview.
5) Do not communicate with other candidates and focus only on yourself to clear the interview as there would be many coming and getting rejected and if you ask them anything then you are definitely going to panic or in you may get afraid.

All the best!!!!!!!

First of all thanks to this website as it helped me immensely to prepare for the interview.
I summarize the happenings right from the point you come up at the consulate.

My interview was scheduled at 10.30 AM @ Chennai US consulate and I reached there by 9.30.
There was a big queue in front of the consulate gate segregated in groups:
1st batch then 10.30 -12 batch and so on.. I guess depends upon the number of people in each batch.
Please note: You need to keep your mobiles and bags out before entering the consulate.
There is a counter to keep your bags. Suggest not to keep your mobiles at local tapris (small eatery shop), but again it's your wish.

Went in with the coupon number after showing the appointment letter and confirmation page.
They checked my bag and other things.
Entered in a hall where there were many counters with numbers for documents checking.
An LCD displayed the coupon nos. with the counter. Also there was a counter where they took the finger prints.
Entered another hall where I had to pay the visa fees by DD.
The turn came and I stood patiently.
VO: Hi!
Me: Hello (with a smile). Good morning sir!

VO: Where are you working?
Me: Current company name

VO: Where you would be going?
Me: city, state, US

VO: How long you plan to stay there?
Me: <in years as per visa app>

VO: How much is your current income?
Me: <salary in INR>

VO: How much will be your salary there?
Me: <salary in $>

VO: So wat specialized skill you carry along with you?
Me: <told all the stuff> (remember to tell them about your involvement as a special skill that isn't in the US)

VO: How many people work on your project?
Me: <as there are>

Then came the golden words "Your visa is approved"
I said thank you sir. Have a nice day!
PS: Be confident and clear while you speak and all happens on its own!
