L1 A Blanket Approved at Chennai Consulate
First of all, thanks to all those people who have posted their experiences on this site which was of immense help.

I had my L1 A Blanket Visa interview in Chennai consulate scheduled at 8:30 am. Went to the Chennai consulate at 8 am. Pre-checks were complete pretty quickly. Then I went to the main seating area where the visa interview takes place. Here, there is a separate counter/window where they check and take the demand draft before the interview. To be called to that window, it took a considerable long time, almost 30-45 minutes. The lady checked and took the demand draft and then I had to wait for my token number to be called for the visa interview with the officer. It was a very nervous wait, even more nervous after seeing some people's application getting rejected. Finally, my turn came and below was the conversation.

Myself: Good morning
Officer: A very good morning sir, how are you doing today?
Myself: I am doing good, thanks. How are you doing?
Officer: (Smiling) Doing good. How long have you have been with YYYY company?
Myself: YYYY years
Officer: How many people would you be managing?
Myself: I would be managing YYYY managers, with a total team size of ZZZ
Officer: Would you be managing them at onshore or offshore?
Myself: I would be managing them at onshore
Officer: When did you last travel to the US and on what visa?
Myself: <Gave the particulars>
Officer: Your visa is approved. Thanks, have a good day.
Myself: Thank you. Have a good day, a merry Christmas and a happy new year
Officer: Thanks. Same to you too.

L1B Rejected
Questions asked: (but not in the below order)

Have you been to US before?
No

What is your highest degree?
told BE (Mech) & PGDBA.... but i had mentioned only BE in the docs.

What is your project?
......
What is your specialized skill?
......
Who is your client?
......
How long have you been with XYZ client?
......
What is your current salary?
.....

The VO politely stated that he could not approve my visa in this category as they have strict guidelines and said that i talk to my HR and definitely go for other categories in which i would get through. The remarks given for denial was "Not completely approvable".

To folks who are planning to go for L1 make sure that you satisfy all the above and similar questions with ideal answers else go for H1 is my suggestion.

L1-A Blanket Approved
First of all, thanks to this awesome site and those who have posted about their experience for the visa interview tips!!!

About Myself

Education: Engineering + MBA
Role: Technology Marketing
Organization: MNC
Visa applied for: L1A - Managerial / Executive

Visa Experience

We had our appointment at 11:15 AM, and we (Myself, Wife and Son) reached there 30 minutes earlier. You are not allowed to carry electronic items or any Zip bags (including laptop / back packs) inside the consulate. There's a small shop nearby where you cab leave most of your stuff. I left my mobile there. You can carry your wallet inside, and you might need it to.

Before entering the consulate, the visa interview letter would be checked and a token number give to you. After this, you would be allowed to enter the consulate and pass the security check.

In the pre-check counter, all your documents would be checked including the HDFC receipts. You would have to get yourself finger printed after which you would guided to the interview block.

Since we had a 2 year old son, our interview call came in pretty quick - were surprised as there were many others waiting.

Interview Experience

Officer: Good morning to you, how are you doing today
Myself: Good morning. We are all doing great, thanks. How has been your day so far.
Officer: Good, thanks!!!
My 2 year old son in all good spirits wishes her good morning, and she wished him back smiling. She asks how old he is.
I hand her the documents.
Officer: I am just bringing up your details. She then gives some documents back.
Officer: After looking at her screen, how long you have been working for XYZ
Myself: 6.5 years in total
Offier: What project are you going for:
Myself: Explained my role (this is the most important part). Be confident and crisp, that's very important. What you have filled in the online application form is very important.
Officer: How many people report to you
Myself: Answer
Officer: How long you've been married
Myself: 4.5 years
Officer to my wife: your educational qualification
Wife: answers
Officer: Your visa is approved, you would get it in a week
Myself and wife: Thanks!!!

TIPS
1. Ensure you carry all documentation
2. Keep them segregated and neatly arranged - so that you don't get tensed searching for documents during interview
3. Be calm and confident
4. Prepare and rehearse for the the frequently asked question. Especially about skill set / projects - its important to prepare, otherwise you might end up talking about insignificant things and miss out on the key things. Remember, the interview is for a a very short duration.

All the best!!!

VO asked me the following questions

2. why you and not others
3. who is ur client
4. have u been to usa before
5. how long, which visa
6.explain the prodcut

then he said your visa is approved sir. you will get the passport in a week.

The guy in front of me spoke in american accent and uttered lot of technical words, but even after 5 mins of technical chatter, the VO refused his visa.

tips:
keep the answers crisp.
dont utter too many technical jargons
look at him/her and talk confidently

later came to know from the consulate website that my VO was an ex-army commander who served in Iraq, afghanistan and has a mile length of qualifications in peace-conflict relations
