Few points to consider before the interview

1) Dont go too early to the embassy. If you reach the front of the queue, the security will ask you to wait there or come later on. Even if you reach just 10 mins before your interview, you will be asked to come in front and there is nothing to worry about
2) Dont carry water bottles, mobile phones or any other electronic gadgets. Carry all documents in transparent files. Dont carry files that have metal zips
3)I have seen several posts here asking people to wear tie as it adds "value". Well, dont do it if its the first time or if you are uncomfortable. In case you are wearing a tie, make sure its a full sleeve shirt or you will look like a school kid. Also a white shirt does not gaurantee you a visa. Wear your best, something that is formal. As a matter of fact, I wore a dark blue shirt without a tie
4)Maintain pin-drop silence! Dont talk to even your spouse
5)When asked about your role, dont talk about your technology. Anyone can learn a technology. Talk about the application thats proprietary to your company. Someone in the USA should not be able to replace what you are capable of doing, and thats the whole trick!

I had my interview in Chennai. I went through BEP, and was asked just 1 question. "What will be your role in the US?".

Just be confident in whatever you say. All the best!!

I thought this is going to be too complicated but It ended with ease. It all depends on your luck and fate. My interview was scheduled at 9:00 AM on 19-Feb-10. I reached there by 8:30 and there were fews people in the Queue and as soon as I reached they called me for initial screening. And then I was made to wait and it seems like some technical problem with the systems and they were not calling anyone. and at one point the consulate become too crowded inside. Once the issue was resolved they started calling the people as per their time slot. The officials over their were really helpful. Thanks to them.

My documents verification was over and I was asked to go to the second building. Their I made the DD payment and there were only few ppl waiting for L1 interview. As soon as I settled down and took a deep breath they called me. I was really really nervous and I tried and managed to cover it. I walked near counter 6 very slowly and the VO officer was looking at me. And the interview went like this.

Me : Good Morning (With a broad smile)
VO : (With a stern face) Documents please.
Me : Gave the documents (Smiling)
VO : Please place your left middle finger on the scanner.
Me : Did the same (My hands were shivering @ this moment)
VO : Thank you. Who is your Client?
Me : xxx Client
VO : What is your role @ onsite?
Me : xxx role and I will be doing analysis, design and development of the customized loan application for xxx client.
VO : What is your specific role in this?
Me : I gather the requirement, convert them into Technical design and program code for the application.
VO : What is your total experience in this project
Me : xxx years
VO : I do not think you have some specialized skills
Me : At this point I thought he is going to reject my Visa. Then I told about my knowledge in this Application, Knowledge in Company tools and how do I use those tools to improve productivity and blah blah blah...
VO : Starring into my eyes for 2 - 5 secs and then he started entering something into his PC and he signed the I129 forms and told the golden words :) :)
Me : Thank you very much (With a broad smile on my face).

What I feel about this.
======================

1) It all depends on how is your day. Luck Plays a major role.
2) Dress neatly. Tie brings an added value. Some comes in casual but I do not recommend it.
3) When you walk near the interview counter walk briskly. The VO will be watching you keenly so be very confident. Your body language should not imitate or depict your nervousness. Rest is in God's hand.

All the best.

L1 Blanket Approved!!
Hi,

First of all thank you for the moderators of this website.I went two hour before to the interview on 11th Feb 2010.
In Mumbai there are queues for 10:30, 11:30,12:30 appointment. Mine was at 12:00 PM but I reached there at 10:00 PM. Luckily I didn't find any queue for L1 blanket. The executives there are very helpful. She collected my appointment letter and my passport and handed me a pink token and documents (I129 and I797) send by my company 3 days before and asked me to go for security checkup. I was done with the Security checkup. Then another executive asked me to have my finger prints of all the ten fingers. Again one executive collected all our passports and the documents. Then I was waiting for one hour for my interview. Please note not to talk with any others in the waiting area as the VOs are constantly watching the persons sitting in the waiting area. I had a Tie and was wearing the Company ID. Light Blue shirt and Black pant did the Magic.

I was called by my token number at 11:45 AM.

Me: Good Morning, Officer. How are you doing? (Smiling, Looking into VOs eyes)
VO: I am good, Thank you.(No expressions)

VO: What is your experience?
Me: 3 years 2 Months.

VO: What you do?
Me: I working for employer ABC since 3 years supporting XYZ application for the client PQR.
(He was doing something with his desktop. I continued, I am currently working as a developer and support person for XYZ application.)
(still doing something with his desktop. I continued, I am well versed with xyz application and also have knowledge of ABC's Specialized tools.)

VO: OOh you said it first, Are you Married?
Me: No (With a smiling face)

VO: (Started stamping the I 129s.)He was telling something to me with a low voice and Handed me two sets of I129s and kept one for him.
Me: (I check the passport was with him)Thanks a Lot!

Observations:
Formals with a tie.
Fill the L1 petition number in DS-160 without fail. Check with you Org people
Eye contact. No fillers. Be cool and confident and keep smiling.
Above all, pray to God. He is there to help you.

Visa is yours! All the Best
