L1A
Hi,
I got L1B individual petition rejected in 2016 with response saying i am not qualified for specialized skill, now my company is planning to apply L1A Blanket.
I have around 3 years exp in my current company as employee and 9 years as contractor.

1. What is the chance of getting my L1A blanket approved?

My wife is home maker, 12th qualification, she has done Btech but still has arrears and has little spoken English skill.
I am entering 12th as highest qualification for her. I see, in interviews, regular question of what is your highest qualification being asked to wives.

2. Please suggest whether to attend the interview along with wife or not? as possibility of VO thinking 12th and less spoken english does not help her to survive in USA

Please dont get me wrong on these dumb questions, but your responses and any suggestions helps me. I am thinking to take family[Wife and Kid] along with me.

L1A Blanket Not Clearly Approved Followed by L1B Individual Approved
Hi All,
I would first like to thank immihelp that helped a lot to prepare for my Visa Interview and even documentation work. My visa experience and
suggestions are as follows:
M y company had earlier filed L1A Blanket petition. As this was blanket petition there was not much work needed on the documentation. I
had appeared for Visa Interview with my wife and Kid. As most of you must have known by this time that if you are travelling with Kid you are
prioritized and are not needed to wait in Queue!!
This may sound good and relieving but for me th is was a kind of shock as you dont get enough time to adjust with that kind of environment
and feels as if you are being rushed for the Visa Interview,
Not sure if this is the case with all but with me even after knowing that we will be prioritized we didnt expect to land in front of VO so fast. I was not even prepared with all my documents that i kept in the folder!!

L1A Visa experience - Aug 2017 in Chennai:
Me: Hello GM
VO: GM. Please give me your passport and documents
Me: Handed over required docs
VO: So do you work for XYZ?
Me: I work for ABC (Yes he misunderstood my company.)
VO: Ok. Which Visa have you applied for?
Me: L1 A
VO: What do you manage?
Me: Answered in one line. " I manage xyz product for my company.........some more details .."Then there was pause of 4-5 seconds<May be
VO was expecting more from me!!
VO: Where will you be staying in U S?
Me: Answered both City and State
VO: What is your salary?
Me: answered . ( comforta bly above 100K)
VO: How many direct and indirect reportees in US and India?
Me: One in India and none in US
VO: Took a gap of around 4-5 secs and was continously typing on Computer. Then handed over blue slip and mentioned that " Sorry I
cannot approve your visa at this moment. L1A visa has very narrow scope for approval. Please check with your HR and file in appropriate
category!!!

what went wrong? I think because i was not having any reportees in US and only one in India as per VO i didnt qualify for L1A Visa Category. Also my role was technical which would have made him think that i am more suitable for Specialiazed skill than executive or managerial position. Rest went well from my prespective.
VO handed over the blue slip immediately after i answered this question on how many reportees!!

Post discussion with Immigration consultant and HR they decided to file in L1B individual.(Specialized skills due to technical nature of work)
As this was individual petition had worked a lot on preparing the supporting letter/petition with evidences etc (almost 150 pages). I took almost 5 months to prepare my petition due to busy office schedule!!
After preparation i got it reviewed from HR and got some feedback. My petition was filed under premium processing and got approval in 15 days with out any RFE. As per me this was possible because i had around 8+ yrs of exp working in same company, good Salary and also detailed petition supproting letter.

Tips for Individual Petition:
1. Give as much relevant details as possible to clearly understand the specialized skills that you have with justification including customised traininigs and process that your company has.
2. Do not hesitate to put PPT Slide Snippet/Diagrams/Flow chart/Tables for better representation.
3. Have some $ value justification/Impact that your company shall have if you are not transferred to US.

L1B Visa Interview experience - Apr 2018@Mumbai:
This time I didnt take my Kid along for Interview as i didnt wanted any priority treatment and wanted to be in that environment for some time to settle down.
1. Me: GM
VO: GM.Give me your passports.
Me: Handed over passport.
VO: Why do you want to go to US?
Me: I Answered in 1 -2 lines mentioning i Work for ABC company and i specialise in PQR product which i have been working for past 6+ years. My contribution was......
VO: Asked for approved petition - I 797
Me: I handed over the copy to him.
VO: Asked for Form I 129
Me: I handed over copy to him. He couldnt find any justification details filled in form as it mentioned "Refer supportting letter for details". I then offered him the Petition Supporting letter and he just glanced at it for few seconds and returned it back.
VO: Started typing on Computer...After 2 mins whom will you report to?
Me: Answered.
VO: After 2-3 mins continuously typing on Computer. Golden words" Your Visa is Approved"

what went wrong? My response for Question " What do you manage?"
I should have answered more confidently and in atleast 2-3 sentences instead of 1 sentence
But the Killer was that i had no reportees in US and had just one in India. This was last question VO before handing over blue slip.

Post discussion with Immigration consultant and HR they decided to file in L1B individual.(Specialized skills due to technical nature of work)
As this was individual petition had worked a lot on answering the questions in detail, with evidences etc. I took almost 5 months to prepare my petition due to busy office schedule!!
After preparation i got it reviewed from HR and got some feedback and also sample Petition letter. My petition was filed under premium processing and got it approved in 15 days with out any RFE.

Tips for Individual Petition:
1. Give as much relevant details as possible.
2. High chances of approval if you have more than 7-8 exp in company and also
3. Provide some digrams/Flow chart, Table etc for better presentation. This also shows confidence.

L-1 Visa in different country
Hi, I am currently in Singapore for work and people in my company have told me to apply for my L-1 Visa in Singapore. The waiting time in my home country is around 30+ days whereas in Singapore its 3 days.

Is this a valid reason for applying for the Visa in Singapore?

Please check stamped I129 S for correct visa category
Hello friends,

In my recent post I shared my experience on L1 A visa interview.

Yesterday while checking my stamped I129 S found that by mistake the visa category ticked in the stamp is L1B instead of L1 B.

Guys please check the stamped documents before leaving the counselor window.

I now have contacted them over email and will wait for the response.

Thanks

L1 blanket visa interview experience in Chennai US
Firstly would want to thank for all the experiences posted on this site. It helped me a lot to prepare for the interview.

The questions posted in this forum are almost the one asked at Consulate. I used to prepare with a mock interview 2-3 times before the interview.

I had my visa interview on 4th May 18 at Chennai consulate. The questions asked are :

1) Who is your petitioner?
2) How long are you working with your current company?
3) Where will you work in US?
4) What will be your designation?
5) Whom will you report to in US? ( I answered the designation as 'Director').
VO then asked how many such "Director" level positions are there in your US office. This was a little different than the ones asked earlier as per the forum.

6) How many reportees you have in US?
7) Your salary in US?
8) How long will you stay in US?
9) What will be your roles and responsibilities?

The VO then starting searching few things on his computer and took a minute to get more details. He than stamped the documents and approved the visa.

There are few tips I would like to share:

1) In Chennai the Consulate is right on the main road unlike in Mumbai. My interview was at 9:30 am, I reached around 8:45 am and joined the queue for 9:30am. There are no sitting places till the time you reach the VO. So be prepared to stand for a long time or else reach only 15 minutes before your appointment.

2) Smart watches are not allowed. So avoid wearing them. Other items like mobile etc is all mentioned.

3) Once you join the interview queue, you will find that the distance between the zigzag queue and the VO chambers is very less. You will not be able to understand if there are designated VO for each type of Visa. There were candidates for tourist, H4, L2 , L1, business etc being interviewed in the same slot.

Since you can hear most of the conversation I would suggest to be calm and dont get tensed. Few VO's ask lot of questions and refer to some section numbers etc. Just be focused on your state of mind.

Everything will go fine if you give answers correctly and confidently. It is important that you have correct answers as per the details mentioned in your company documents.

Wish you all the best.
