You can check the status of OCI by dropping an email to [email protected].

But I have seen the progress in OCI card status only after I filed complaint in Public Grievance

http://pgportal.gov.in/grievanceNew.aspx

Once I filed the complaint I dropped an email to [email protected] with the Grievance Number.
I got a reply immediately from Atlanta Consulate office from

Ramesh Kamra
Asst. Consular Officer
Consulate General of India
Atlanta

Which is appreciable.

Once card is received to CKGS you can escalate CKGS to speedup the process by mentioning the travel date.

Note: I have dropped an email to Atlanta Consulate on 15thJan'16 and I received OCI card by 9thFeb'16.

Hope this information helps.

Picture Rejected - Does that mean my OCI is approved pending picture?
I applied for OCI in September 2015. In Oct, I received the date of acknowledgment from Govt of India OCI Status Enquiry. It says "Under Process"

It has been saying that for 3 months now. It has been 4 months since I sent my application to CKGS. There are no updates after my application was sent to the consulate for decision making.

My questions is this. I received a phone call from CKGS that my picture is rejected 2 days ago. I sent a new picture. But when I call them, they dont tell me if my application is in India or still with the Houston Consulate. I dont know if my OCI is approved and just hte photo was rejected.

Anyone in the same boat? I see everyone receiving updates that their application is sent to India, document printed, document dispatched to Consulate etc. What should I do?

Why is the status update not changing for 3 months for my application on the Govt of India website? Anyone has this problem?

Also, if you email Mr. Shetty ([email protected]), how soon will he respond?

Please help.

Atlanta CKGS- still no update
I have submitted the OCI applications for my daughters on 22nd December. They had a problem with my mode of payment and after we corrected it everything was processed on 29th december where the status on the CKGS website was updated as the application was on the way to the indian consulate from CKGS. There has been no update after that on the website. I got an email on Jan 6th that my application was on the way to New Delhi. When I called CKGS, they told me that the application was still in New Delhi with no new update. We are planning to travel to India on 26th of this month (Feb). The questions I have are,

- Will I get my OCI before my date of travel. (it says on the govt website, OCI card will be ready for delivery within 42 days of the acceptance of application. Acceptance date: 30 dec 2015.)

- If I get the notification for OCI received at CKGS, Is it possible for me to go directly for the match-up process or should I only do it through mail?

- If I do not get the OCI before my travel, I am planning to take e-visa for my daughters. Can I give their passports to my husband when he is returning to US so that he can get the OCI cards? Will I be questioned regarding the lack of US re-entry stamp?

- Is it okay to wait for a month before sending the passport for match up process as that is when my husband will be returning from India?

How long for consulate to receive documents
My OCI document has been dispatched by MOIA on 29-Jan-2016. Today is 9-Feb-2016 and the status on the Government website shows it is not yet received at Houston. How long does it normally take? How should I follow up on this delay?

New OCI procedure sucks
With the new OCI 01/25/2016 changes, we are asked to submit original passport of the applicant and also the parents for minors. How can we submit the originals to CKGS and wait for 3 months? If we have to travel outside for any emergency or work related, how am I to travel? It doesn't make any sense to keep the original passport for 3 months or more. Would help if they could verify our passport and return within 10 days.

I called CKGS and they asked me to speak to Indian Embassy regarding this and when I call the embassy, they don't talk to you unless it is emergency and I was asked to send email and there was no response for the email I sent.

Now, we need to upload our scanned copies but the upload system allows only 500 KB max file size and also it doesn't provide option to upload all kinds of documents.
Even a passport copy of 2-3 pages I scanned comes to around 1.8 MB.. now I need to go and fix it..
Why are you wasting our time CKGS/Indian Embassy?

This is totally frustrating and hopeless.
CKGS/Indian Embassy - please fix these issues and make the site and system user friendly and effective... you are way behind...

New OCI card for Minor - need help
I am trying to apply OCI card for my newborn (Nov 15). When I check new process starting from 25 Jan, 16 it has variety of documents to submit and upload.
I am having few question like below, can someone PLZZZZ give me answers on my doubts.

  1. Is document list is different than adult for OCI ( As its mentioned two options on CKGS website and didn't find page which shows Adult list vs Minor list)
  2. photo should be different than passport which is sending (hard copy) with application ? passport photo and hard copy photo should be different ?
  3. when I have filled application online I am getting Temp ID (showing on upper right corner) of online application by which not
able to connect again if trying to complete partially filled application, is this a issue ? I have filled application 3 times as unable to
fetch same application.
  4. Do it needed to send origional passport (new born - US) both parents (India) passport with application only ? I tried to confirm
by calling customer care but unable to connect them after long time on hold too.
  5. PP scanned copy need to be IN COLOR or black & white will be ok ? as its upload limit is only 500 KB.
is it correct that first 2 and last 3 (25-26-27) number only pages need to upload for US minor and for parents first 3 and last 2 pages only (B&W) ?
  5. is anyone successfully completed new OCI process for minor ? is there any deadline that we will get Org PP back or OCI ?

Trying hard to post application ASAP as my family need to reach home as earliest.
  Please please help.

  Thanks

CKGS tracker does not work anymore
CKGS implemented a new tracking tool on their website and it does not work anymore. It was working quite well until two days ago and not sure why they changed the tool all of a sudden. Now they ask us to enter DOB and PP #, along with the Web Tracking # to track the application. But when we enter this information, it is not finding the records. It seems they implemented this tool without much testing. Their phone lines are always busy and if you are luck you can get to talk to someone. They explain that this is a new tool and they will fix it in a day or two - hope they do. The only silver lining is we are still getting email alerts when the status changes.

OCI renewal - now it is almost impossible (from 25th Jan)
Just to add to my previous post. .. They even removed the OCI inperson appointment option from the appointment system. You can't go in person to handover the application.. only option is pray God and send the entire family's original USA passport through mail at the time of application .. wait 3+ months.. and hope for no emergency or work related mandatory travel outside USA. I believe they indirectly want us to give up the OCI .. I am seriously thinking to take visa and give up the OCI. If the checklist they published is real.. then the document (OCI) is worthless and more burden to maintain. I don't think even for USA GC processing we send our original Indian passports with application. They asked only during stamping. This can happen ONLY in India!

OCI renewal - now it is almost impossible (from 25th Jan)
I just noticed the required document list for OCI renewal for minors. They changed the checklist staring 25th Jan. Now you need to send applicant's original US passport and also parents US original US passports during application .. and it is held with Indian embassy for almost 3 months. This is one of the stupidest requirement I have ever seen for any country. Please check the link https://www.in.ckgs.us/resources/pdf/oci/oci-re-issue-new-passport-us-minor.pdf
Now even worse.. I need to apply for my daughter (minor) and also mine (because of 50 years and new passport rule). For my daughter's application I need to send my passport (USA) original.. also I need to send the same for my application. This is impossible. Whoever defined this new checklist or rule should be kept in some museum for display. Now they are making the OCI renewal almost impossible by locking the entire family US passports for 3+ months and if you need to apply for another applicant (minor) family.. again the parents passports are kept (like criminals) for another 3+ months. In my case I travel frequently for business.. if I send my original passport for my daughter renewal, my passport is locked 3 months..and to apply for me again another 3 months. This is most useless thing I have ever seen in any part of the world. This can happen only in Modern India. This clearly explains that what kind of IAS officers or bureaucrats we have back in India.. supper smart and unbelievable.

Uploading Documents
I am having trouble Uploading documents as pdf after completion of Part A and B. I am having trouble in making the document into 500 kb as required by the site. For India Proof - the birth certificate / parents passports scans - they are at minimum at 2.8 mb before they start loosing quality that they cannot be read. Should I just mail the documents ? Only one document is allowed per category.

It makes me feel that their is some ulterior motive for designing the document upload site with so many snags. It seems that they have designed it to fail.
1. Only one document can be added per category.
2. No drop down menu so that people can choose what document they are uploading, like birth certificate etc.
3. The site crashes often.

Any ideas. Should I go directly to Chicago ( my center ) and drop all documents by hand ?
