oci for minor- sfo
hi all ,

1.just wanted to share the experience of stupidity from ckgs-sanfrancisco . i had applied for my daughter OCi couple of months back . the application was put on hold as she was born in india . they reckon i will need to apply for her renunciation certificate as she was born in india . the call centre guy was pretty rude and informed that anyone born in india was an indian.
i had told them both her parents where us citizens and how come she will be indian in anyway.
the thing went for couple of weeks and finally it was accepted on calls and mails going on and on .
hope no one had this idiotic issue to deal with.

due to all this delay . the application had still not processed . it was send to india from sfo consulate after sitting there for 5 weeks. i have seen usually it is send for further scrutinization in a week or two to new delhi. now i have to apply for my daughter visa as they have to travel end of june an i do not see anything happening with oci.

i had to scroll the ministry of affairs website and paste him back as this reply

OCI for Minor at SFO Consulate
Hi Everyone,
After almost 3 long (and anxious) months, finally I received my baby's OCI card. Even though there were some asynchronous updates from CKGS, overall it was a smooth ride. However, my advise to all - please try not to book your tickets for India until the whole process is completed. It goes well over the specified timelines. In my case, it went well over the 60 business days as specified by CKGS.

OCI for Minor - New York
Hi All,
We applied for OCI for our child on 23-Apr. the application was passed forward to Consulate and then went to India and OCI is ready for match up.
But we have not received any of our passports yet and CKGS is asking for Minor passport for matchup.
When we called to check, now they are saying that passport was not received and we never sent the passport.
Does anyone face similar issues and what are the options. Do we need to make new passport now or shall I go to CKGS ofc or consulate to enquire further.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Frustrations are pointless
In my understandings, the delay in OCI processing is quite reasonable. Think of the time taking to get the US citizenship even though enough technologies. OCI is like a second citizenship in India. Many are trying to get the OCI after renouncing Indian citizenship. India can accept or deny the OCI request.
I would say, no need of frustration or upset for those awaiting the OCI card. Apply for OCI if you have at least 6 months of time before a travel. Otherwise just apply for a visa. Good luck!!

time taken for OCI card to reach Houston from India
Hi,
I applied for kids OCI on 03/16/16 and on 5/18 the status showed processed and on 5/19 the status showed it was shipped from India. I am travelling to India on Jun1st and wanted to know if there is a chance thet the OCI will reach houston consulate by next week. Also would it be possible for me to collect from consulate direct (like Zilok memtioned in thread below). Do I need to set up prior appt or should I walk in.
I have a valid PIO and passport for kids and the consulate says I can travel with these documents and OCI receipt. Has anyone recently traveled to Inda with these documents. Please share your thoughts.
