Hi,
I am applying for my sons OCI card in lieu of PIO. Both parents have OCI card. I have two questions.
1. The OCI check-list asks for parents passport or OCI card. Do they need parents original passport, OCI or both?
2. Will the original PIO card be returned after initial submission, such that it can be used for travel, until the OCI is approved? We hope to travel early summer.

oci+renunciation
Hi all,
This is my sad story may be bad luck!
Me and my spouse applied OCI+renunciation in June 2015 sfo CKGS.
Everything went smoothly, match-up call came sent docs.received all the docs back for my hubby.
Me received only OCI and foreign passport. Contacted CKGS , they told me to send courier again, MO -$15. Nothing happened , emailed them they are not telling me whats wrong , just telling me that they still processing it ,I shoud get it soon.Then again someone from CKGS asked me to send USPS lable sent it. Never got the docs back.
Now I need to apply OCI for minor kids and my renunciation certificate is mandatory document and I don't have it. One of the CKGS team member said you keep your payment receipt with your minor's application, it should be fine.
Sending it shortly but am sure they wont accept it.
Basically customer service people in India have no connection with CKGS office here that's my understanding. Dont know what to do....

Hi,
03/08 i got update that my card got printer. And 03/09, they sent it to Washington DC. And it reached 03/18. I went directly and submitted My daughter's PIO and USA Passport for match-up Process. But today 03/21 i got update as below.
"Your application is being re-submitted and is in transit to the Embassy / Consulate for decision making. Please continue tracking your application online. 03/21/2016
We have received your pending additional / incorrect / missing documents and we are verifying the same.
You will receive an update shortly on the progress of your application.
Please continue tracking your application status online. 03/21/2016"

OCI in Lieu of PIO application for Adult Non-US passport holder
Here is my experience applying for OCI in Lieu of PIO for myself. It was rather complicated as i'm Singaporean, my PIO was issued in Singapore but i'm applying for OCI in Chicago.
10th March: Took appointment with CKGS Chicago with my completed application but CKGS rejected my application citing issues with PIO, renuncication certificate etc.
11th March: Emailed OCI Wing in Chicago and they cleared my documents after checking.
14th March: Went back to CKGS with application. Included cover letter explaining my background and also included printed email that OCI Wing cleared my documents. CKGS accepted my application finally.
15th March: Recevied email acknowledgement from CKGS "We have ‘Received’ your OCI Application and your Application is now ‘Under Process’ at CKGS."
17th March: Received email acknowledgment from OCI "OCI-Application received and is under process."
Will update as and when there is news.

OCI stuck for 45 working days at SFO Consulate - OCI in lieu of PIO
I have applied for OCI in lieu of PIO application in SFO consulate for my son. The PIO was issued in NYC consulate. The final document submission happened in November 15th 2015. It has been 45 working days but nothing happened yet and the status says "Under Process"
When i raised the escalation ticket through CKGS, they replied saying that the application is still in SFO because they are waiting for NYC embassy to give approval regarding from the PIO they have given and there is no means to escalate it. The CKGS says they can't escalate to consulate.
Is there anyone who has been in my state? Like applying OCI in lieu if PIO for the card issued with different consulate?

Notarization
When I submitted my wife's OCI application last year, notarization was not needed, only "self-attestation". However, looking at the checklist today, to apply for my own OCI, I see it mentioned many documents have to be notarized. (https://www.in.ckgs.us/resources/pdf/oci/new-oci-card-us-adult.pdf)

OCI washington DC
I have submitted my documents for match-up process.usually how long it will take . in the counter, they mentioned that it will be ready in 3-5 business days. My travel date is March 27th.
AT CKGS, they kept a note with my application , and mentioned my travel date. does it help? He said i will get the card by 23rd.

OCI Experience at Washigton DC(Minor)
Below is the recent experience for OCI applied for my daughter.
Would suggest everyone to consider minimum of 4 months time period to book you flight tickets, inorder to avoid rescheduling chargers.

It will take 42 working days to get processed at New Delhi inorder to verify your document and send back the OCI printed card.
I had to follow up with Indian embassy inorder speed up the match process and also i have sent the passport before the status was updated on CKGS.
You can look at Indian website status and if it says received at DC then you can send the document, if its urgent, else you can wait for one or 2 days for receivng email.
