Detailed instructions of the whole OCI process
Applying for OCI card.
Go to website
https://passport.gov.in/oci/welcome
Answer the question
Click on fresh application
Enter all your information.
Scan your 2x2 passport size photo as a .jpeg image.
If image is big please open it in paint and
Click on resize and change the pixel size to 360
After that still if your image is big then do select all and minimize you pic and crop the white parts of the image and save it.
Part A will be completed with image upload,
Part B fill out information on each tab and again upload documents here also they have to be pdf docs and 500K size so you need to scan your documents and cut it using ( snipping tool) and copy it in Microsoft word then you can save it as pdf file.
Once that is done please take a screen shot of your file number because you will need that to reprint.

OCI registration website issues
Hi all,
Is anyone running into the same issue as I am.
I am trying to put in a new OCI application for my child and the site keeps going in circles.
The sequence is as below.

3. http://passport.gov.in/oci/submitAppDetails -- Click Here To Proceed
4. http://passport.gov.in/oci/welcome -- Click the New OCI Registration -- this brings me back to step 1.
It keeps going in circles at this point.
I tried all the regular things like using different browsers, clearing cache, using Incognito mode.
Have also tried multiple machines.
Any ideas are much appreciated.

Hello everyone!!!
Here is my experience applying for OCI for my baby girl @ CKGS SF and I would say I'm very happy and satisfied with the the way our application was handled both by CKGS and GOI.
I applied for the OCI in person on 11/30/2015 and received the OCI in hand today. that's like 51 calendar days (35 business days!!!!!)
I was very skeptical about the day we will receive the OCI as my travel dates were confirmed for 28th this month and I almost applied for tourist visa thinking I would not receive the OCI in time. Lucky me! got it well in time and happily packing now.
Here are the timelines for our application.
One thing to note, Don't wait for CKGS to email you that OCI is ready for matchup. Print the status from GOI once you see that the OCI has been received at US Mission and send the passport along with the status printed.

Need a small information
Hi Friends,
I am in process of applying the OCI card for my toddler son.
His PIO card has validity of "Lifetime" and does not have the end date but the OCI web application has a "PIO valid till" column and it only accepts date as input.
Please let me know what date needs to be filled in this case.

OCI in SF
Hi Everyone,
I am helping my mom with her OCI application. We survived parts a&b on the indian government site.
We have collected all the necessary documents and applied for the renunciation cert as well.
Would it be worthwhile to just go into SF centre and complete the process? I feel scared to mail documents and have to wait to see if they got everything. If I decide to go in person what happens to the renunciation certficicate which I have already paid online and said I would ship?

eTourist Visa
My daughters(5 months old) OCI status show , its in transit to Chicago from Delhi. Based on experiences posted here i am planning to apply for eTourist visa for her as i dont want to give her passport and then stuck there for awhile and change my travel plans. I have approved H1B petition from my new employer, my h1b visa was expired in oct 2015 so during this trip i will need to get my new visa stamped on passport. I was wondering if that is going to cause any issues at port of entry in India to my daughter on eTourist visa ? As they might say that if you could not get your h1b visa approved & stamped how is your daughter going go back to USA . Has anyone ran into similar situation ? how was your experience ?

Hi ,
I have submiited the OCI for my KID on 4th Dec 2015, got the receipt on 5th Dec and after that there was no change in the status. Today the status got changed to Sent to Consulate. How long it will take from here.
I have plans to travel to Indian by Jan end. Will I will be able to travel with him on OCI receipt.

CKGS tracker OCI
My application was received 15 December in Chicago. After that no update, not even the dispatch message to the embassy. Is it stuck? or tracker is not updating? I don't think I can make the March travel. CKGS is atrociously slow.
