Your next milestone: receive your case decision
Dear Friends,
I had my interview in LA office 3 weeks ago which went so nicely and smoothly. Officer told me "I didn't received your file in my office to stamp, so I can't approve it and as soon as having your file, I will approve it".

During these three weeks, I didn't received any mails and my online case status showed only the old message that "Your interview was schedule on March". Today I has a new case status which says "Your next milestone: receive your case decision".

My approximate time is still showes 7 months.

Does this change mean that I am going to receive the decision soon or this is just some automatic format changes that doesn't mean anything?

Thanks for your help. I am so street out.

Citizenship journey came to an end
Hi dear friends,

I would like to share my experience in that hope that it would be helpful for other applicants.

1- I submitted my 5 year GC based application of citizenship from Queens, NYC around of Dec. 2019. I applied online. And I also requested for name change in my application.
2- Received biometric appointment on the same day and it was for mid of Jan. 2020.
3- it took exactly one year from my biometric to receive the interview letter. And during this one year I moved from Queens to Riverdale. In 10 days of my move I changed my address in my USCIS account online. This one year waiting is usual for a big city like NYC.
4- My interview was on 02/28/2021. The interview was pretty quick and I even request to pick another name instead of the one that put in application, and the office asked me the new name and printed a paper with new name that I needed to sign. All the interview process took probably 10-15 min
5- my oath ceremony was scheduled only 2 days after interview and it was today, 04/07/2021.
6- you have to fill the page 4 of oath letter on the day of ceremony and show that to the officer when you are entering the oath ceremony room. Once you entered the officer take your green card and other USCIS produced cards/documents that you may still have and certificate along with name change petition approval would be given to you. If you have not requested for name change you receive the certificate only.
7- then you will be seated and you need to check the info in the certificate just to be sure all of them including the spelling of your name is correct
8- finally a judge will join the ceremony, probably remotely and from a computer to ask you repeating the oath after him/her. And after ceremony, that’s it, you would become a US citizen, become free to go and celebrate with your family and friends.

Hope this note help you guys through your journey.
Good luck to everyone!

Can Oath Ceremony with Name Change be held at USCIS Field Office
Hello Everyone,

I finally received the Oath Ceremony appearance notice for the first week of May. The Oath Ceremony location is the USCIS field office where I went for the interview; it's in Holtsville if you are familiar with the Long Island area. I thought name change could only be performed in a judge's presence, and I was expecting the location to be a court. Does this mean that the judge will be present in the USCIS office for this occasion? Has anyone had that experience of having a judge present at a USCIS office for the ceremony?

I am wondering what I can do to confirm that a judge will be present. The interviewing officer knows that I needed a name change, and I signed the form for the court; he mentioned it to me during the interview. Any thoughts on how I can get a confirmation, or should I not be worried that much. I tried calling the USCIS number, but I couldn't get past the automated robotic voice. I appreciate your help.

Thank you!

San Francisco Timeline
Finally got the N-400 interview scheduled for in the San Francisco office

January 16, 2020, receipt notice
January 18, 2020, biometrics scheduled
Feb 3rd, 2020 biometrics
Apr 5th 2021, interview scheduled (couldn't see the letter with the date till today)
May 3rd, 2021 interview

No idea if I will be able to take the oath on the same day.

Interestingly, estimated completion time that used to be Dec 2020 and was "taking longer than expected since then" is now 11 months (March 2022) but I assume that is an error.

Interview & international travel
Hi!
I got my invite for the N400 Interview for May in NYC. The finer text on the letter states that one would need to reschedule in the case they have travelled outside the US within two weeks before the interview.

Does anyone have experience on that?
I know it’s an Covid safety measure but are they gonna verify the latest travel....?

Physical condition of Green Card during Naturalization
Hey guys, I was just wondering if the green card has to be in perfect condition when turning it in during naturalization? I keep mine in my wallet and it has scratches in the back where the holographic stripe is. Thanks! :)

Background Check
Hello, I am currently in the process of naturalization. I had my biometrics done 2 weeks ago and was wondering what the background check entails? This is going to sound so stupid but do they check online forums for posts and questions by applicants? I may have made a big deal out of something so insignificant and just don't want that to be an issue moving forward. Thanks for your help! Stay safe! :)

Days outside the US
Hello everyone,

I applied for N400 in October 2020 through marriage to US citizen. (3 years rule)
My cumulation of days outside the US during the last five years was a little under a year (350 days) at the time of application.
In December 2020 I went back home for a month and I might go back in June.

Will the days I am leaving the USA AFTER my application was sent will be added to the 350 days and could future traveling be a problem?
