Re interview call after visa was issued
I had a b2 visitors visa interview on sept4. My visa was rejected. I again went for the visa interview on sept 10. I was issued the visa this time. I was interviewed by the same VO both the times in Hyderabad Consulate. But today i got a mail asking me to come for a reinterview on sept 13. Can anyone tel me why i am being asked to come for a reinterview? Are there any chances that my visa will be rejected in the reinterview? What type of questions will be asked now? The purpose of my visit is to attend a cousins wedding over there. Background info bout me- Im 24 yrs old and have my own business here in India. Im engaged and my fiance stays in India, we are getting married in december. My sponsor to the wedding is my dad and my stay is being taken care of my cousin over there. All these things were conveyed to the VO at the time of the interview.

VIsa Granted Today - Thank God!!!
Hi All,

Thanks Immihelp for all the information here, it helped me significantly so I just have to share....I had my interview this morning, i was granted the VISA. He did not look at ONE SINGLE DOCUMENT!!!

My tips
1. Be confident, look the interviewer in the eye, and get ready for any question.
2. Have mock sessions before the actual interview where your friend/colleague/family member asks you questions hard and fast just like a VO would.
3. Be truthful.

Interview was at 8am, got to the embassy at Lagos, Nigeria at 6.30am, Security check and screening commenced at about 7am for the 8am category

Went through security check, had my biometrics, and waited my turn.

VO: Hi
Me: Hello! (with a wide smile, ignoring the fact that a security woman had been extremely rude to me and literally threw all my documents to the ground - there is no ego trip here)

VO: What are you going to do in the US?
Me: I intend to go for tourism purposes

Vo: Where in the US will you be visiting?
Me: New York

VO: Who do you know in New York?
Me: No one (I was going to say that I will be staying in a hotel but I refrained - as I was not asked - short sharp answers are key)

VO: Where have you travelled to in the past?
Me: I have been to UK, Dubai....(he cuts me here)

VO: How many times have you been to the UK?
Me: (smile) I honestly cant count at this time, but i would say several times *I have been to the UK about 5 times*

VO: WHo do you know in the UK
Me: No one in particular, I usually go on holiday.

VO: Where do you work?
Me: A financial Advisory firm based in Lagos

VO: How much do you earn monthly?
Me: I tell him

VO: Are you married?
Me: Yes

VO: Do you have children?
Me: No

VO: Why is your husband not travelling with you?
Me: *I was prepared for this* He will not be on leave at that time

VO: Will you be seeking medical care in the US
Me:No

VO: Come back on Monday for your Visa
ME: Thank you *yay*

Visitor visa rejected for parents under 214b
On friday Mumbai consulate visa was rejected under 214b for my parents. I want to reapply once for mother only.

Do I need to put Self or other person under Person/Entity paying for the Trip? I have put my name on previous application. If I put self now then is there any issues?

They have enough money into their account to show them.

Thanks
Vishal

Got my 10 Year Multiple B1-B2 Visa Approval at First Take!
I applied for my first B1-B2 visa in Doha. It was a working day so I came on my interview wearing my company polo shirt and usual working pants. After my biometrics and my number was called, I walked towards my VO who will interview me for my application:

Me: Good Morning, Sir.
VO: Good Morning too. Can I have your appointment slip and passport please?
(Me handing over my appointment slip and passport)

VO: Why do you want to go to the United States?

Me: Well, it was my birthday yesterday, and as people say that "Life begins at 40", I want to go to the US to spend some good time for myself. I want to go to New York and watch some Broadway musicals. Or maybe Las Vegas to play some slot machines. But definitely, I will be going to Disneyland and see Sleeping Beauty when she wakes up. (Me and the VO grinning at each other with the joke)

VO: How many years have you been in Doha?
Me: Well, I've been here since 2001. Its been 12 years since my first step in Doha.

VO: Are you working in that company and what is your position. (Pointing on the name and logo on my shirt)

Me: Yes I am working with YYYY company and I am the company buyer. As you can see in Doha that construction is on a full swing, my work as a buyer entails tremendous daily pressure to keep up with the procuring and supply pace. And so with my annual vacation coming this year, I want to go to a place where I can spend quality time for myself. No calls from my boss, no calls from my suppliers, no meddling of problems with any family relatives. Just to sit and listen to soothing musicals in Broadway, lazily spend my time with the slot machines and of course the sleeping beauty that I will have in Disneyland. So when I come back for my work, I will be fresh, relaxed and ready to face the pressures again.

Then the VO said: your visa is approved... please come back tomorrow for your passport.

Thus on the following day, I got my passport back, opened it up and said to myself... Thank goodness, its 10 years of coming back and forth to America and regularly see Sleeping Beauty in Disneyland when she wakes up. :-)

Tip:

1. Answer truthfully and honestly.
2. Be yourself. You don't need to pretend just to get plus points from the VO.
3. Don't wear jewelries to flaunt that you are rich and can afford to travel. It will show on the computer if you are fond of traveling to different countries.
4. Just relax and be confident on your answers. A little joke that would lighten up the day will help ease up your pretensions.
5. Smile.
5. Thank the VO for giving you the opportunity after the interview.

Visitor visa got approved...
I would like to thank Immihelp forum for experiences which has helped my mother a ot to prepare for the interview.

I am sharing my mother's experience for the visitor visa interview at Mumbai Consulate. I hope this may help some of you who is going to attend the interview. The visa interview was in Mumbai at 7.45 am (27th Aug 2013) and the OFC (Offsite Facilitation Center) appointment was on Aug 26, 2013 ( 10:30 AM)

US Visa OFC Process in Mumbai

Date: 26th Aug 2013—Time 10:30 AM.

1. She reached BKC OFC (Bandrakurla Complex ) at 9:00 am considering rains and traffic in Mumbai
2. They screened her to see if she has any prohibited items.
3. Then a lady asked for appointment confirmation and scanned the barcode on the same.
4. They asked for Original Passport and DS 160 and pasted a barcode sticker on the passport.
5. As soon as you enter one person gives you the token number.
6. Her turn came and she took an oath before giving her fingerprints and photo.
7. The overall things took us only 15-20 minutes. There are many counters inside and it won’t take much of time.
8. She came outside the OFC BKC around 9:30 am whereas the interview was scheduled at 10:30 am.

B2 Visa personal interview - Process at US Consulate in Mumbai

Interview time: 7:45 am on 27th Aug 2013
She reached Mumbai Consulate at 7:15 am

First you have to get in the building and they will check you if you have any prohibited items with you. You then proceed inside where there are many volunteers to guide you with the seating arrangement and the documents required in your hand.

Once your turn come, you will need to go and collect you token number and proceed towards the fingerprinting (even though you might have given earlier).

Look at the TV screens for your token number and then the corresponding counter.

Here is the Interview Part(B2 visa), her interview was in Hindi as requested in DS 160 application:

1. Why are you going to US? (Answered)
2. What does your son in law do? (Answered)
3. When your son in law went to US (Answered)
4. When your daughter went to US (Answered)
5. What is the guarantee that you will come back to India? (Answered)
6. Are you going alone? (Answered)
7. How many days you will stay in US? (Answered)

Regarding documents, though she has carried all the required documents but he just asked for the passport and nothing else.

And then those magical words - " Mam, your visa is approved"

That was it and he kept the PP and said that she will get the passport in 2 days. After that she paid the courier fee so that passport can be delivered at home address.

Things to remember:
  - Carry smile while greeting the VO. Be calm and confident.
  - Don’t get influenced with what is going with other interviews.
  - Dress nicely and sober, it gives a good impression.
  - Look in to the eye of the Visa Officer and answer.
  - Their questions are very straight so don’t get afraid listen and if in doubt ask him to repeat the questions and answer.

B2 Visa rejected with blue slip
I would like to share my experience i had at my interview.

Status: Visa rejected

My demographics
Age:25
Status:Single

Had my slot at 8:30. It was almost 10:00 by the time i was interviewed

Me: Good morning Sir
VO: Good morning, please pass me your passport
Me: Gave
VO: What is the purpose of your visit?
Me: To visit sister and various tourist destinations in the US
VO: How long do you intend to stay?
Me: 4 Weeks
VO: Is this your first visit abroad
Me: Yes
VO: What is your age
Me: 25
VO: Are you married
Me: No
VO: Where do you work?
Me: Said
VO: How long have u served the company?
Me: 3 Years
VO: Who is sponsoring your visit?
Me: Myself and my mother
VO: What is your income?
Me: 3,67,000 per annum

VO: Sorry, you are not qualified for this visa type.

He gave me a blue slip with Section 214(b) stated as the reason. I am still trying to figure out why the interview came to an abrupt end. I also felt that i could have answered a bit differently (I am actually joining another company in October with a significantly higher pay package) . Pondering on whether to reapply.

My Tips to candidates:
* Show documentation. VO will not ask for it.
* Try to prove that you have ties back home even if the VO doesn't ask.

Moral of the story: Answering only to the question asked may not be the best approach
