B2 Visa experience for my parents - New Delhi
Hi,

Thanks for all the support from immihelp forum who helped me start from scratch for all the documentation and questions. Both my parents have got their visas issued

Questions Asked:
a) Why do you want to go to the US
b) Who do you have in the US and where will you stay
c) Where do your children work
d) What do you both do to earn a living
e) What is your total job experience
f) How long you want to stay there

No documents check. Visa issued.

Tips:
a) It is always a better option to go for self sponsorship
b) Be firm on the duration; when asked. Better to keep it short on B2.
c)DS-160 should be filled as accurately and as honestly as possible.
d) Always wear a smile on your face while giving an interview and be confident. Don't forget to greet them and say thanks at the end (Just a good gesture )

All the best to everyone in US waiting for their parents to visit them :)

B2 visa interview experience delhi
Had the interview today.I want to share my experience and feedback so that others can be benefitted.

1.In Delhi, the mobile phone and remote car keys can be kept in safe custody outside the consular gate.Only problem is parking your car.You have to park at a nearby place, say near Ashoka hotel or Nehru park and walk down.
2.If they give you time 0930 hours,be there atleast one a half hours before, better still two hours before i.e.at 0730 hours.Time given is only for interview and the time for all the routine checks, formalities etc.consume a lot of time.Even though UStraveldocs website and the appointment letter tells you to come just 15 minutes before.DO NOT FOLLOW.If they give the time for 1130,be there at 0930 hours.I was given 0930 time,i landed there at 0830 hours, thinking that i was too early.,but unfortunately i was shocked to find that by that time, the 1000 hours people were proceeding for completing formalities.
3.Spend time in understanding the visa procedures and the contents of DS 160.I will strongly advise and recommend everyone to fill DS 160 themselves,so that they are aware of the importance of each data.Once you fill yourself, you are confident and will be able to answer the questions by the officer. In my case,i spend more than two weeks(of course in the nights only)in understanding and practicing to fill DS 160,and that had the ultimate effect of the words"Your visa has been approved".
4.Be confident in whatever you say.
5.Be clear of your intentions, travel, medical etc.

All the best.

Visitor Visa Approved
My demographics (to provide some hope for the young and the single :) )

Age:25
Marital Status: Single
Profession: Working with a fashion retailer

My interview was scheduled at 9:00 AM on 12th July at Mumbai Consulate. I reached at 8:15AM and went through the security check. After that i was asked to wait in an open area with many people already waiting for their turn. Finally we were allowed to enter the interview hall wherein we were issued token numbers and asked to proceed for finger print verification. Only 3-4 counters were open for interviews so it took almost 2 hours before my token number appeared at one of the windows.

VO: Good Morning, how are you?
ME: I am great mam, how are you?

VO: Can i have your passport?
ME: Sure

VO: What is the purpose of your visit?
ME: To meet my friends and explore some of the most popular tourist destinatons in the US, before i join my new employer back here in India (the last statement i believe was very important)

VO: What employer?
ME: Told the name of the company (a telecom conglomerate)

VO: When will u start working with your new employer?
ME: In sept

VO: where are you working now?
ME: Told

VO: Why are you changing your job?
ME: Told some reasons

VO: What will be your salary in your new company?
ME: Told (Its above 12lacs/annum which really helped)

VO:Can i have a copy of the offer letter?
ME: Sure

VO: Tell me about these friends you are visiting
ME: They are doing their MS from xyz university.

VO: Your visa is approved and you wil receive it in 2-3 days.
ME: Thanks mam :)

Initial expectations were it will be rejected for all reasons. However certain things which worked in my favor include:
1) Promise of a good job in India
2) Annual CTC

For people of my age who wish to visit the US for tourism purpose/meet girlfriend-friends, make sure you prove strong reasons to come back which for our generation usually includes a stable job and a high salary. Qualification also matters, for ex MBA/ Bachelors from a reputed institute, which in itself is a proof that you wont indulge in any illlegal immigration activity.

Though i had all the documents, none of them were asked for by the VO.
All the best for your interviews.

Cheers

Husband on B1 -- my B2 Visa experience
Mumbai Consulate. My Appointment was on at 9:00 AM raining heavily, we reached there at 7:30AM and they let me inside ! The people outside said there is very less rush today in comparision with daily average.

Checked my passport, security check was done, they let me into the waiting lounge, checked passport again and other documents they were carrying.
This is randomly checked for few people only.

Then they have sent a batch of people, including me, for finger print check and gave a token number.

There were more than 100 numbers in front of me and only two counters were opened after a few minutes.
Then later, more counters opened and tokens kept moving faster.
I was watching everybody, who were attending interviews. There were equal amount of acceptances and rejections as well (accross all VISA catagories)

Finally my number was displayed. Questions asked were.

Me: Good morning Sir, How are you?
VO: VO did not respond to this, he was typing.. (Sometimes it happens that they dont respond, even then dont, loose ur Eye-contact with them)
I gave my passport to him, as he looked at me.

VO: Checked my passport.
Well Mam! what is the purpose that u r going to US.
Me: My purpose to go to USA is to accompany my husband who is going on a technical training.. ( I was about to say that it is for a month)

VO: (He interrupted me) Which company does he work for?
ME: I told him the company. (Mid sized software - Non MNC)

VO: Can I see his Visa copy..?
Me: I said yes, and told him that I have got my husband's Passport along with me, and if I can show him that.

VO: Yeah, That is much better, show me that...
ME: I showed him that, (it is a courtesy that we show him the exact page, but I was not able to do that)

VO: Checked his passport, and Visa page, What is your husband's Salary?
Me: I told him. (For such kind of Questions, I was prepared to let him know our savings and other ties, But here he asked Husband's Salary, so i mentioned only that)

VO: He asked me , you work for XYZ Comapnay? Is it? (Which already knew where I work - Probably DS-160)
Me: I said Yes sir. (I work in software based MNC)

VO: Do you have children Mam?
Me: I said NO, and also mentioned that not planning for 2 more years.

VO: Where in USA are you Going?
Me: Told him the place,

VO: so u will be landing at Washington DC? Right?
Me: Yes, I would like to Visit that place (Just to confirm him that I am going for visiting purpose only)

VO: Ok Mam, your Visa is approved. Check for the SMS to collect it.
Me: Thank you Sir! Have a good Day!
VO: Good Day too! and do Visit Washington DC ! (smiles all over our faces)

Some things that disappointed me: On the OFC day, my appointment was at 2:00pm. My self and my husband took all the pains to travel from different city and we reached before time and we were let inside at 12:30pm itself on Sunday. The OFC process lasted only 5 minutes. All the pain for just 5 minutes and just taking fingerprint and photo. Only carry DS-160, appointment confirmation letter and passport. No mobiles allowed inside.

If the OFC was for 5 minutes, and almost everything that happened on OFC day again happens on main day, I really did not see the actual need for OFC. I wish that procedure was not there(atleast for age - 45+) or it should be thought out in better way.

On the main interview, people outside(incl my husband) had to wait for about 3 hours. There were other very elderly people just standing in the rain and wind under the trees. There is absolutely no place to sit.Perhaps this has become a way of life in India but that's sad. Atleast there should have been shelter and some chairs to sit.

Final words - Be truthful -> which means you have all the paperwork -> which gets you confidence -> which will get you VISA

All these are my own opinions and I may be very wrong. All the best everyone

Self sponsored Visa sanctioned for me and wife with 7.4 L per anuai Income
Thanks to immihelp team for the help guidance and suggestions.

B2 visa approved for me and my wife on 12th July interview and got the passports with 10 years multiple entry visa stamped on 13th July ...really super-fast service.
I had OFC on 11th July (Friday) and visa interview on 12th July (Friday) at Mumbai. Raining heavily on both days. As I am from outside Mumbai, chose a hotel in Bndra Kurla complex for overnight stay, which was costly but was at walking distance for OFC and Interview.

Visa was self sponsored so I was very much anxious as I had Rs. 7.4 lakhs annual Income. I was told that you should have at least Rs 10 to 12 Lakhs annul income. But I think, my 25 years practice with hospital must have been considered (as written in the DS-160 form). Another plus point must have been my previous visits to UAE and South East Asian countries
I had chosen Hindi for interview as my wife had meager knowledge of English.

Following were the Q. and A.

Me and Wife: Good morning sir
VO: Very good morning to you sir.
The translator lady asked: Aap kahan jaana chahate ho?
Here I told to VO that I am doctor and you can communicate in English.
VO: Then why have you chosen Hindi for interview?
Me: For my wife sir.
VO: What is your speciality in medicine?
Me: I am an Ophthalmologist….Eye surgeon
VO: Oh, I see!
Vo. What is your annual income?
Me: 7.4 Lakhs
VO: Who is there in USA
Me: My daughter
VO: Is she married?
Me: Not yet sir.
VO: Where she works?
Me: xx company as xx
VO: Her visa type?
Me: H1B
VO: You have any other children?
Me: Yes, One daughter, married. I also have one unmarried son.
VO: What does he do?
Me: Doing post-graduation in Medicine

Throughout the interview he was typing on his PC in front of him.

Last question was to my wife, by translator: Aap kya karti ho?
Wife: Housewife

VO: OK, Doctor your visa is approved! You will get the passports within 4 to 5 days.
Me: Thanks a lot! Have great weekend ahead.

No documents were asked, though I had all the documents ready as suggested on this website.

Visitor Visa for me and my parents
I would like to thank Administrator of Immihelp and Peace999 for all their guidance.

My parents and I applied for a B2 visa to the US which got approved. The tricky part from what I understood was that I am single, my father has retired, my mother is a housewife and my elder brother is in the US since the past 10 years. From what I read on this and other forums it made us a potential immigrant in eyes of the Visa Officer (VO)

Quick pointers which should help everyone:
1. When you fill your personal details in the login page for scheduling your appointment, the details should match with your DS 160 form. Name is where I believe most people would end up making a mistake:
a. Let’s say your Given name on passport is YYYY YYYYY and your surname is ZZZZZ
b. While filling name in the registration page there are 2 fields viz First name and Last name
c. Most of us will fill YYYY in first name and ZZZZZ in last name which is WRONG
d. You must fill YYYY YYYYY in first name and ZZZZZ in last name. This is true for your dependents as well travelling with you
e. I realized this only after I called their Call center for some other purpose and they highlighted this mistake to me
2. If you are applying for a Visa with your family, at the OFC you can hold documents for everyone while your family members after their security check can sit inside waiting for you. In my case I was holding my parents documents while they were seated inside and I stood in the queue to take our token
3. If you are applying for a Visa with your family and most of you can speak good English while there is only one person who needs a Hindi interpreter then go ahead with English as the language of interview. At the consulate request for Hindi interpreter to the person allotting tokens and he will tell you that you can request the same to VO. In most cases VO will tell you to interpret
4. If you are paying your Visa fees via NEFT then you need to first add Bank of America to your account. While adding, select “Current” as the type of account. After making your online transfer, within 2 days you will receive a mail with Receipt no. In fact the Receipt no will automatically appear in your account
5. When you check wait time on www.ustraveldocs.com it may show 3 days but in reality the actual wait time could be higher. In my case it showed 4 days but once I paid my fees and decided to book my appointment, the next interview date was after 12 days
6. Many applying this time of the year would want to know if you can carry your umbrella inside the Consulate? Yes, you can. Standard umbrellas which are upto 1.5ft in length can be carried but those long stick like umbrellas are not allowed
?
My experience – OFC
1. Carry your latest passport, appointment letter and DS 160 confirmation page
2. In 30 mins our work was done. This includes waiting in queue to fingerprint and photograph
3. Don’t go too early as you will have to wait till your appointment time. We reached 15 mins before our time

My experience – Consulate
1. Officer will check your latest passport, appointment letter and DS 160 confirmation page
2. Once inside after security check, there is a waiting lounge where another officer will check your passport
3. You will then enter a huge hall where you will be directed to a counter where a Token number will be pasted on your passport. After this you will be directed to other part of the hall where you can see multiple counters where interviews are happening and lots of people waiting for their turn
4. Your fingerprint will be taken again to verify your identity and you will be told to be seated
5. Above each counter there is a screen where current token number and next in queue token numbers will be displayed. In between few counters there is a large screen where new token numbers with respective counter number would be displayed so keep an eye on this

My parents are dependents on me so I decided to take the lead and answer. This may not be a bad idea as this could be a bit of a stressful experience for old people. Nevertheless VO are always smiling and comforting.

Interview
Gave my passport to VO
Me: Good morning Sir!
VO: Good morning, how you doing?
Me: Doing well sir, thank you. How about you?
VO: Doing good

VO: Why you want to go to the US?
VO: What does your brother do?
VO: Is he married?
VO: Which visa is he on?
VO: What is the duration of your trip?
VO: What do you do?
VO to my dad: Sir, what do you do? Have you retired?
VO to my dad: Where did you work last?
VO to my dad: What were the products?
VO: How many siblings do you have?
VO: Who will fund this trip?
VO: What’s your income?

Golden words: Your visa is approved!

No question was asked to my mother. We paid 300 per person at the courier counter and received our passport with 10 years visa.

Last few tips:
1. Plan early and don’t rush into booking your appointment
2. Keep at least 2 days gap between OFC and Visa appointment and don’t book last slot of the day. At OFC if you are told to make some corrections in your form and get a new print out then you will have loads of time otherwise it will be extremely stressful
3. If you are going for genuine reasons apply for your visa without any fear and be confident that your visa will get approved
4. Of 100% chance, there is a 50% chance of success, 25% chance of rejection (221g) due to lack of documents and balance 25% chance of rejection (214b) if you are seen as a potential immigrant
5. If you manage to ensure you have all the documents, suddenly your chance of success becomes 75%. Potential immigrant depends on your answers. So practice hard, read experiences of other people and prepare your answers

Be honest and be confident!
