Need Advice on B2 Visa Question for Mother-In-Law
Firstly I would like to thank you all for you time and guidance .
This portal has been a great help in gathering all my documents thanks to Site Administrators and Members.

I have applied for B2 visa to my mother in law .she has her appointment next couple of days .We have been wondering what valuable answer to would be for one of the VO question.

Q. Why your husband is not accompanying you in this trip to US.

I have applied for an appointment to only my mother in law and not the father in law .
FYI- My father in law being a retired government employee.

Can my mother in law mention to VO that my father in law is retired?
Can she mention to VO that after his retirement he has been actively employed in real estate which would be the reason he has opted to stay back in India and my mother in-law alone would like to visit US .

In advance thanks for your reply.

B1/b2 visa issued in mumbai consulate with interview details
My name is mustafa lakdawala i had posted two questions on this forum and would like to thank immi help!!! As well as the u.s consulate staff and support staff who were prompt in replying to my queries due to which i got my visas for 10 years each for my mother, wife my son 1- year old and my self

interview --> was on the 21st august at 09:00 hrs, we were told to reach 45 minutes before the interview time i.e 08:15 hrs and all of us reached there at 08:15 hrs, my mother is a wheel chair passenger so we did not have to wait in the long queue outside the consulate , after entering the first gate of the consulate there is a security check and of course try to keep all the electronic items (mobiles, laptops. I-pad etc) in your car or give it to someone whose accompanying you and waiting outside the consulate. For my kid though they allowed all the food stuff we were carrying. After the security check there is a big waiting hall with a lot of chairs where you are made to sit and when you turn comes you have to enter another hall where you will be given a token number stuck on your passport and then proceed to one of the counters where they will re-check your finger print, since my mother was on wheel chair we by-passed the waiting area completely which must have saved at least 45 minutes to one hour, once we entered the other hall where the token as well as finger printing takes place the same place interview also is taken.

After finishing all the formalities our turn came for the interview, all four of us went together to the window where the interview was suppose to be held, the questions asked are as follows

vo --> good morning
me and my family --> good morning sir

vo --> passports please
me --> handed over all the 4 passports

vo--> all four of you are one family
me --> yes

vo--> pointing towards my mother asked is she your mother or mother in law
me --> my mother

vo --> purpose of visit to the u.s
me --> family vacation

vo --> duration of the trip
me --> two weeks

vo--> places u are going to visit
me --> mentioned a few cities of america and also said disney world

vo--> asking me whats your profession
me --> tour manager cum organiser ( i had mentioned this on my ds-160 form also)

vo --> asking me annual income
me --> xxxxxx per annum( my it-returns which i was carrying showed my total income so said whatever was on my it-returns)

vo--> after looking at my mothers passport he asked her why she has gone to iran?
Me --> she replied for sight-seeing and for pilgrimage

to that i added that we used iran as as transit point to enter iraq since there was an embargo in iraq so airports were not operatonal during that time only way to enter iraq was through borders

vo---> asked me again my annual income
me--> same answer as before

vo--> asked me when did my father expire
me --> replied

vo--> asked me when did i get married
me--> replied

vo--> asked me about my previous visit to the u.s and told me to give that particular passport in which i have my previous u.s.visa which had expired in 2011

me--> i told him my mother and i both had traveled to u.s. Before as it was also mentioned in the ds-160 form and i had marked the page in which i had my previous visa so i opened that particular page and handed the passport to the officer

vo--> he stamped on my old visa "cancelled without prejudice" and handed that passport back to me

vo--> and the he said your visas are approved!!!!

And took our passports, no questions to my wife no documents checked, although i must admit that previous visa of u.s. Helped me immensely to acquire the new visa but i am sure and many of you will agree that this is not the only criteria to get visa of u.s, i agree with many applicants who have posted their experiences in the forum that answer the questions very confidently and give honest answers don't try to manipulate as the visa officers are very well trained to catch manipulative answers and for that i again insist to fill your own ds-160 form

collected my passport today and saw 10 year visas printed for all of us!! Cheers!! And all the best to future applicants
if you have any queries and you think i can be of any help please write to me and i will try my level best to reply although the members on this forum are much more experienced then me who had replied to my queries but anyways any questions regarding anything please write on this forum and i will try to answer

also some people have this query that in the ds-160 the visa category type they have typed b1/b2 instead of b2 but and i had done the same mistake in the ds-160 form but immihelp advice me that both visas are combined when issued so it should not be a problem and it was not a problem at all.

My Parents got B2 Visa approved from Kolkata consulate
I parents finally got their visa approved yesterday! This was the third time they had applied with previous 2 rejections. The last two times were rejected on the same ground - 'Failed to prove enough ties back home' -section 214(b). There were no documents asked to prove anything. Their petitions were just rejected.

This time we followed the same process as last two times, but everything worked positively.

Questions asked :

How many kids do you have ? - 2 Daughters . One is India and other in USA
Are you visiting your daughter in USA? - Yes
Is she married ? - Yes
Does she work ? - Yes
How long do you plan to stay? - About a month
Who is sponsoring your air tickets? - We will buy ourselves.

That was all. They were notified that their visas are approved. Still awaiting to get the passports back to know the validity.

So, it is to let everyone know that please try multiple times even if nothing has changed. "3rd time is always a charm"

Good Luck!

In-laws B2 visa at Hyderabad in Telugu
US CONSULATE, HYDERABAD

Day 1: 08/13/2013 2:00PM
• Arrived at the OFC appointment center at around 1:00PM
• Security check and documents scan and stamped the DS-160 confirmation page, which we have to bring the same form the next day to the interview.
• They put a barcode on the passport.
• Gave a serial number for finger printing.
• Photo has been taken
• Finger prints have been taken (4+4 first and then 2 thumbs)
• Make sure you return with all the documents.

Day 2: 08/14/2013 10:00AM
• Arrived at the security gate at 9:20AM
• Checked for the passports, appointment confirmation letter, and DS-160 confirmation letter.
• Asked if we have any cellphones etc. Even if we have they asked for some Rs.10 to store them in a locker kind of facility. But we didn’t have any by that time.
• Waited in the room for the 10’o clock appointment slots. Gave us a Token no. for the interview. Hold it until you finish the interview. They called in for the security check.
• Put the documents in the tray for scan and went through the body scanner and collect the documents file from the tray.
• Went inside the room and took finger prints again (this time just 4 fingers only)
• Waited in the room for the token number to appear on the screen (displays only 3 token numbers and their counter numbers)
• Went to counter 11 and stood there for few seconds.
• Visa Officer (lady) called in for the interview.
• VO started asking questions to MIL.
1) Asked for passports
2) Where do your daughter and SIL live?
3) Where does your SIL work?
4) Do you know how much salary he is getting?
5) Who is paying for the trip? SIL sponsor.
6) How long is your trip? 2 months
7) How many kids you have? Two, one in US and other one with us in India.
Then VO stressed, so you mean on here and one there? Yes.
8) The daughter in US is your own daughter? Yes and smiles exchanged.
9) Now looked at FIL, and smiled and asked, what do you do sir?
He said working in ZZZ. VO said, so you are a government servant. Replied Yes.
10) Are you still in Service? Yes.
11) Then VO said, you got your visa and we will keep the passports.
12) Thank you.
13) Walked out of the counter and asked the security people there that, where we have to pay the courier fee? They said, there is a counter outside where you can fill your address and pay Rs.300 each for the passports to be couriered to the home.

All the best to all.

Mam ur visa is approved
Hi

single , female ,25, working with finance company from last 4 years applied for USA visa along with my mother for 3 weeks .We went there without hope due to below reasons.

1. I made a mistake in DS160 form " Mentioned my brother as us citizen wherein he a resident:
(but i created a new application with correct details and took both the old and new print outs)
2. No Sponsorship papers( My brother was sponsoring and he couried the Papers bt we didnt recived it , but i took the couries label number to show them that he has couried but we hav not recieved due Holidays(EID and 15th Aug)

We reached there at 8:30 ..

There was a large queue which i didnt expected lol.then we were directed towards the Interview counters. There was one English guy speaking Fluent hindi As our interview was in Hindi bcz of my mom. A lot of people were wtg for their turns . some got it some rejected .We were hopeless so we sitting casualy and waiting for our turn. Then our Turn Came.

I Said " Good Morning Sir

He replied back , Good Morning Madam.

He- is she ur mother?

Me. Yes she is my mother.

He- why are u going to us .?

I started in English n told him that i selected hindi bcz of my mom and i am more comfortable in English , He smiled back.

and then i sd i m goind there for vacation and to meet my brother and sister inlaw.

then so many questions came

where u gonna stay ?
on which visa ur brother i s on?
How he gone to us?
What does he do
where does he work
have u ever applied for visa before
For how much period u r going to us
do u want to live in us
so on......

I replied back to every question promptly and with confidence.

He didnt asked much to my Mom.

and then he was looking into his computer and was pondering and then he sd that this is a tourist visa not for immigration

i sd i know that
Atlast he said " Madam ur Visa is Approved with a smiling face.

So, after this experience what i understood that as we apply for visa ,they go thru the applicant background and make their decision evn before the interview. if theywant to give the Visa or Not. rest 10% is done in the Interview, So You should have a genuine reason to go with right intentions . Ur visa will be approved.

Not evn a single paper was checked.

Passports kept, but Visa not approved?
My parents went for Visa interview, and after a few questions (no documents were looked at) especially about my dad's business, the VO told them that they will be informed in 3-4 days about the Visa. Their passports were kept at the consulate. My dad runs a small business with 4 employees. They did not ask him for any CA documents or IT returns etc over there.
I looked up online and the status of the visa says "Administrative Processing". Do you have any experience with this?

Visitor Visa for my Aunty
Hi,

 I'm trying to get visitor visa for my Aunty (Mom's brother's wife) so she can visit us for couple of months. She appeared for the Visa interview on 08/13 in Chennai with a translator. She was asked the following questions and given a REJECTION asking to reapply.

Q1: Why visiting US ?
Ans1: To visit my husband's sister daughter and visit some places with them.
Q2 : Are you going alone?
Ans2: Yes.
Q3 : Is your husband not coming ?
Ans3 : No
Q4 :What does your husband do?
Ans4: Business
Q5: What is his income ?
Ans5: 20,000/month
Q6: Do you have property here in India?
Ans6 : Yes I can show you the documents (Documents not seen)
Q7:How many kids do you have?
Ans7 : 1 Son. (Sutiation is her son is working in chennai and unmarried. My granny is also old and she is taking care of her. These were not mentioned in the interview by her)

VO Decision : You have to reapply for visa!!

I'm NOT SURE why the visa was rejected. Is it because my Uncle was not in the interview? Or was it the salary that ticked them?

Please any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!!

Required Documents For B2 TOURIST VISA - PARENTS
AUGUST 12 2013, TEXAS

My parents went for B2 Visa interview on the 12th August and their VisaWAS approved. They haven't got the passports back yet. However, below is a checklist that covers all the important documents one should carry.

The document mentioned at US state web site are:
-Passport valid for travel to the U.S.
-Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 confirmation page
-Application fee payment receipt,
-Additional Documentation

- For example, additional requested documents may include evidence of:

1. The purpose of your trip;
2. Your intent to depart the U.S. after your trip; and/or
3. Your ability to pay all costs of the trip.

The first set of documents are an obvious anyway. DS160, passport etc are required to event set foot inside the US consulate. However the set of additional set of documents is where it gets unclear. Below is the compilation of all the documents.

The documents were divided in to three folders:

1. Gate Pass Folder - contains documents that enable to enter US consulate.
2. Identification Folder - contains documents to establish their identity and the legal status of their US staying child.
3. US stay support document - Contains documents that establishes that they can support their stay in US and will not become a public charge on the US government.

(You can use the copy of the Original. YOU NEED NOT SEND ANY ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS FROM USA. Scan and send them the documents like I797, Bank letter etc., to take print outs )

Invitation Letter sample can be found here:
http://www.immihelp.com/visitor-visa/sample-invitation-letter-parents.html

Letter to consulate sample can be found here:
http://www.immihelp.com/visitor-visa/sample-consulate-letter-visitors-visa.html

I-134 affidavit document is not required per se as H1b cannot sponsor B2 visa. However to show that they can take care of the expenses in US including housing and lodging, an affidavit can be prepared and SHOWN ONLY if the Visa officer asks for it. If both mother and father are applying, you need separate affidavit for each of them. In the affidavit, write your mother's or father's name and mention the other as the spouse. It need not be notarized but only signed.

Questions asked:
1. Purpose of Visit.
2. For how Long you want be in US?
3. What do you do now?
4. What did you do while you were in Job?
5. What does your Child do in USA ?

Some Tips :
1. Coach your parents to emphasize on the fact they would want to come back after a stipulated time and they will not stay there more than allowed. They can emphasize this using the property documents.
2. Coach your parents to ask “Sorry I didn’t understand the question. Could You please repeat it?” to visa officer in case the question is not clear
3. Choose a language during booking appointment in which parents are well conversant
4. If any of your parents was in military or defence, please truthfully answer if they had any firearms training.
5. If they want the passport to be delivered to the residence address, then they would have to play extra to Bluedart during the interview process. Else the passport will come to the central blue dart place in the city chosen at the appointment booking process.
6. Please advice them to be at the place half an hour before the scheduled time
7. Please give them a checklist of the required documents and explain to them what each documents is and why it is required. Refer to the Checklist given in this post to know more.
8. Ask parents to be dressed soberly and be confident. Not indifferent, but confident and cordial.
9. Customer care and track your passport.

Thank you.
