Visitor Visa for Mother - Successful
Hi,
I want to thank everyone for their comments on the forum.

My mother got the visa approved for 10 years. This forum was useful in getting her prepared.

My brother lives in US with his family (Wife and two kids). My mother's visit was primarily to see the second child who is 9 months old. Challenge was that she does not know English. We asked for translator service and conduct the interview in Malayalam.

We were all nervous at the outset at the prospect of her having to manage the interview at the consulate on her own.

I was able to use this forum to prepare her for the following questions 2 weeks prior to the interview.

1) What is your name ?
2) Date of birth
3) Place of birth
4) Parent's and Spouse's names as on passport
5) Address

All the above to ensure she answers the details consistent with the that given in the passport

1) Who do you have in your family ?
2) What do they do ?
3) Why are you going to US ?
4) How long you are going for ?
5) Which place will you be going?
6) Who will taking the cost of accomodation and flight tickets etc.

My mother took the preparation very seriously. She even wrote down the question and answers and practiced it daily. I also quizzed her few times daily just to build her confidence.

All the answers practiced were truth.

I made sure she mentioned the fact that she was getting my late father's pension and that property in Kerala was in her name now and she had to return to take care of it also that one of her son was engaged to be married and marriage was in 3 month's time.

Interview was at Chennai Consulate. Since I was not allowed into the consulate I requested the person behind us to help her out with guiding her into the right queue and checking for token number once inside. Though i was not sure that would work. Turns out that he was a perfect gentleman and helped mummy out once inside. To the extent that he waited after his interview was over to help my mother out. I take this opportunity to thank this person from bottom of my hear through this forum since i did not see him afterwards.

My mother was the only one who was interviewed in Malayalam during that timeslot. They made the announcements in Malayalam which was good. Interview itself did not last very long. My mother was very confortable. Though some of her answers did bring smile to the interviewers :) ...

She carried following document in labeled document pack that i prepared

1) Copy of Application form and interview appointment letter
2) Copy of visa fee to HDFC
3) Property documents.
4) Invitation letters
5) Bank and tax details of my brother

Not all the documents were checked.

Following questions were asked before the visa was approved

1) Who do you have in your family ?
2) What do they do ?
3) Why are you going to US ?
4) How long you are going for ?
5) Which place will you be going? - Answer made them laugh.. she had hard time remembering Minneapolis, Minnesotta
6) Who will taking the cost of accomodation and flight tickets etc.
7) Where do you live in India? Is that ur own property ?

All in all the preparation and honesty was the key.

Good luck to all.

B2 Visa rejected@Hyd consulate today
Hi,
My in-laws attended the interview today morning and were rejected saying no bank balance.

These were the questions asked:
1.visiting purpose?
-to visit daughter and son-in-law and for visiting places.

2.who do you do?
-Business.

3.income?
-Since my in-law has a small business, he answered slightly less Rs.2 lakhs as yearly income as he does not have any IT returns.

4.any bank balance/Fixed deposits?
-since he doesn't have any, he said NO.

since i'm the sponsor for my in-laws' visit, i gave all my required financial documents, showed more 17K savings and other things, i thought they would take my finances into consideration. They did not even allow my in-law to say anything after the last question. He wanted to say he has land, own house, shop and has daughter(married) with grand children and a young son (working) to get married. But they dint allow him to talk anything and said you are not qualified and dint see even one document. My in-law said 3 couples before him and 2 after him were all rejected and 3 of them had the same reason - bank balance!

I'm trying to re-apply in a couple of weeks again showing some bank balance.

My questions:
1. how soon or late do we need to apply again?
2.how much bank balance do my in-laws need to show?
3.what if only my mother-in-law appears for the second time? will she be rejected/?
4.will the chances to get the visa better if my in-laws show as self-sponsorers, instead of me being the sponsorer? If yes, how much finances do they need to show?

Please reply soon,
Thanks.
