B2 Visa rejected@Hyd consulate today
Hi,
My in-laws attended the interview today morning and were rejected saying no bank balance.

These were the questions asked:
1.visiting purpose?
-to visit daughter and son-in-law and for visiting places.

2.who do you do?
-Business.

3.income?
-Since my in-law has a small business, he answered slightly less Rs.2 lakhs as yearly income as he does not have any IT returns.

4.any bank balance/Fixed deposits?
-since he doesn't have any, he said NO.

since i'm the sponsor for my in-laws' visit, i gave all my required financial documents, showed more 17K savings and other things, i thought they would take my finances into consideration. They did not even allow my in-law to say anything after the last question. He wanted to say he has land, own house, shop and has daughter(married) with grand children and a young son (working) to get married. But they dint allow him to talk anything and said you are not qualified and dint see even one document. My in-law said 3 couples before him and 2 after him were all rejected and 3 of them had the same reason - bank balance!

I'm trying to re-apply in a couple of weeks again showing some bank balance.

My questions:
1. how soon or late do we need to apply again?
2.how much bank balance do my in-laws need to show?
3.what if only my mother-in-law appears for the second time? will she be rejected/?
4.will the chances to get the visa better if my in-laws show as self-sponsorers, instead of me being the sponsorer? If yes, how much finances do they need to show?

Please reply soon,
Thanks.

B2 Visa for USA
First of all i would like to thank IMMIHELP team for this wonderful site which has helped us a lot in our preparation. I had applied for B2 Visa and the appointment day was 9th of July 2012 at 9am. My wife, son (3 year old) and myself reached the Mumbai - US consulate at 8:30am. As we finished the initial screening and entered the hall, there were about 300 odd people sitting. We thought it would take real long time. We stood in the line for giving our finger prints. When we were very close to the counter, we heard my name being announced. We informed the security officer about it and he advised us to complete our finger print procedure and then move to the interview window. I had all the possible documents that could be asked. We wished the visa officer (lady) and she asked very simple questions.

VO: Purpose of ur visit
I: Tourism and family visit.

VO: Who is sponsoring the trip?
I: My Brother-in-law

VO (Turned to my wife): That would be ur brother?
My wife: yes.

VO: What does he do?
My wife: He works as SW developer for YYYY company.

VO (to me): What do u do?
I: I work for YYYY company

she was looking at the computer and checking details from the passport.

VO: What is ur designation in ur company?
I: ZZZ

She turns to my wife and says: Ma 'am, I am approving the visa for you and ur son.

And then to me: "Sir, In ur case, we need to do further administrative processing. I am giving u this yellow slip (221g) along with the passport. U can check the staus of ur visa on our website. our website has the details of the process as well"

We thank the VO and leave. Not a single document was asked.

Yesterday, we received the passports of my wife and son with 10 year multiple entry visa stamped on it.

I am waiting for my status to change on the website.

Tips: Be prepared with all the documents, answer confidently, keep smiling and don't look nervous. VO talks very nicely, answer them in simple words. of course, dress well.
