Visitor Visa B2
Hi ,

Today, my mother appeared for Visitor Visa - B2. The appointment was @ 9 am in the morning. Her interview was over in 5 minutes and we were heading for home by 09:30 am.

She was asked only few questions such as :

1. Is this self sponsored or someone sponsoring ?
2. How many child ?
3. What does they do ?
4. How much time you need vis for ?
5. Where does the sponsorer relative work ?
6. Is your husband travelling with you ?

She had requested and got Marathi Interpreter. Not a single document was asked. VO said visa granted and kept the PP with him and told her she shall receive it by courier in 3 days.

I want to thank immihelp for giving elaborate information on preparations. That really helped my mother well to prepare well for today.

I conclude following:

1. The decisions are made in most of the cases based on DS-160. I studied various sections of it and think there are conclusions drawn from each subsection.

2. Genuine profiles need not be worried about this process alhough there could be cases where luck plays major role).

3. We need to answer questions in DS-160 where we have document supporting the information. or use approproiate options given in the form.

4. Be confident during the interview.

Now we are keeping fingers crossed for receiving 10 years multiple entry visa.

Cheers,

Arun

Visitor Visa granted to my parents - HYD Consulate
My husband applied visa for my mom and dad. The interview was on June 1st at Hyderabad consulate. The interview was as follows in Telugu:

Interview:

Q: Are you and your wife together?
A: Yes. Then please proceed to window 2

Q: What do you do?
A: I am a retired Teacher. My dad started to speak in English. Even though the interfiew was in English, my dad forgot and started to show his english skills. The translator asked him to speak in Telugu.

Q: Do you get pension and how much?
A: Yes I do and I get such and such per month.

Q: What properties you own?
A: I own a house and my dad forgot to tell them that he has paddy fields. He didn't as the originals were not producable. Fields got it from ancestors, so kind of difficult if they ask.

Q: Who is sponsoring the trip?
A: My son-in-law. Dad gave all the documents.

Q: Where are the Tax and W2?
A: It's in the package. Dad gave them the whole document package. He verified the Tax documents which were from 2007 to 2011 and W2. I guess he was satisfied with lot of Tax and W2s. Can't say and no idea for sure.

That's it, the translator told that the visa is granted and you will get your passports in few days. No questions were asked to my mom. Right now we don't know what the visa period and we are guessing that it might be for 10 years. So, crossing my fingers.

Finally, thanks a lot to Immihelp for providing a nice guidance as what to expect and what documents to include. We also prepared my dad a lot as he is the only who was supposed to speak at the consulate. My mom doesn't speak much and have no idea about all this process. Thank God, they didn't ask any to my mom.

Bottom line is, provide all the documents correctly and all must be genuine and no fakes please. It also depends on the age. occupation of parents or who ever wants a visa. In this case, I guess we were lucky.

Thanks,
Sonali

I am trying to schedule a Telugu language interview in the Chennai
consulate since I have submitted my DS-160 form for Chennai. But when
I select State of Residence as Andhra Pradesh, it is not showing
Chennai available dates for the interview. Can we not take Telugu
interview in Chennai if the State of Residence is Andhra Pradesh ?

Got visa along with my parents
Today Got B2 visa with my parents..thanks IMMI for all the help.

Had prepared a separate file of documents for all us.

Was very apprehensive abt the visa as I am single(28 yrs) and going by the past post in this forum getting a visa for young unmarried male is very difficult.

Wait time was more than an hour..my fear grew as almost all the persons ahead of us were rejected for a visa…when the counter no. was displayed was shocked as I had observed that all the people before us on that counter were rejected visa.

Nevertheless gather composure and went ahead.

Question Asked –

Me

Why u want to go to usa – vacation

Where do you work –xyz

How much is your salary – XYZ

Why USA- its a great country and was on my
travel list for long time

U single – yes(She made a Scruffy face)

U have any1 in USA – no.

How many countries u have travelled to – mentioned all.

Where u plan to visit in usa- mentioned all the places.

Dad – Same as above.

Mom – no questions

It felt funny that the officer dint look at any documents. Had spent almost a week to arrange all the documents. I assume that the officer just wants to be sure that the person comes back and has all the financial resources. The thing that might have gone in our favour must be that we as a family have travelled extensively across Europe, latin America, Australia, asia.

Thanks IMMI for the valuable info.

Trying to find reasons - Rejcted - father a doctor and housewife mother
Thanks to immi help and this whole public forum !
You all have provided much valuable guidance so far !

So, my parents' (father a doctor & house-wife Mother) visa got rejected, in Mumbai.

Rejection reason - my parents were unable to demonstrate strong economic - social ties to India.
I am not sure why would they care about my father's financials. I was sponsoring their visa ! And my father, is a philanthropist guy, practicing in village , and doing almost social service (doesnt charge poor patients' female kids.. Yeah, it still happens, parents dont spend money for treatment of their girl-child.).

Interview session –
Started with mother.
Which messed up the game plan.
My father had better answers. (Like I am a photographer by hobby and want to do some photography trips in national park along with my son..and kind of thing)

Translator –What do you do?
Mother - Housewife

Translator – Why do you want to go to US?
Mother – To meet my son. Blah blah (…and to tour around US. And I like museums so really wanted to visit NY’s museums)
* The one in bracket was never translated. As soon as Translator typed, to meet my son, VO started with next question

Translator – when did you meet your son last
Mother- 2 years

How many sons you have?
2. Elder one in US and younger one in India, doing his studies. He has his exams in August (I wonder if Translator ever got chance to write last sentence and if VO directly moved on)

What does elder son in US do? Does he study?
No, he works for blah blah company in Stamford, CT.

Do you have any daughter in india?
No.
(My mother says, this answer impacted quite adversely. Hack, not all parents are lucky to have a daughter, Mr Aamir Khan !)

Question to my father (who is a Homeopath Doctor, and has no interest in immigrating to US what so ever !)

Tranlator - How much income do you have?
Father 1.5 lakh (that’s what IT return he filled in)

VO- Monthly?
Father – No, yearly.

That’s it ! Rejected.
You don’t have enough economic and social ties in India, to convince us that you will return back to India.

Discrepancies –
Why were my parents not able to show strong “financial ties”?
1)
• DS 160 -- Arun Mehta
• Monthly Salary in Local Currency (if employed): 21000

• Vs interview question
Yearly 1.5 lakh

1) MY DS -160 forms indicates my father is a (homeopath) Doctor and has monthly 21,000 income.
2) My parents both went together. (as i want both of them together, not just one of them !)
3) In case of Mumbai - Gujarat residents, they need to do some advanced submission of all the documents. Over there, they had no interesting docs listed. Just DS 160. There is no way, I cud have shown, through the documents, that they have strong financial ties or social ties in india.
4) My parents had just 90,000 in bank account and 7 lakh in Post PPF etc. I dont think they saw these documents and there is no other way, they would have known about their financial details.
My father , in reality, doesnt own a house. It's on my grand parents' name. Though, they had shown some valuation of that house, on their name, however that document was never seen by Visa officer.
5) I was sponsoring their trip and I had shown enough liquidity in my account. Also had my employer's letter, etc.
6) My mother, in interview, was able to explain them about my younger brother, who is still studying and also about my grand parents, who are aged. Though, Visa officer had a reason to believe that she doesnt have strong ties in india (mostly, because she doesnt have daughter !!! ...lol, really?!!)
7) We had this travel agent filling our visa. That was negative point. First is it was operated by rude, careless manager. They almost spoiled everything and had did no value add or suggestion.

Now obviously, I want them to re-apply.

So what should I try to improve on?
Few random suggestions in my mind -
0) Have a CA prepare some net-asset document. To support a claim that they have some savings, or jewelleries or agri income - which is legally not required to be reported in IT return, but they have it.

1) sending my mother alone and then Papa for interview?!
Let them sponsor themselves. VO will ask, do you have enough money? and each can show their CA documents. And how much they need for US trip anyways? 1 lakh only, right?
This will challenge the interviewer's current reason - no financial ties in india

1.5) Obsly, VO will ask, how come you got money now? In first round, you had just 1.5 lakh for family.
we can answer, we were mis-lead by our Agent and we mis-understood your question first. whatever.

2) Re-applying my Parents' (both's) IT forms again to change the tax/income filed for last three years? Instead of showing 1.5 lakh, they can show more realistic one, 3 lakh. (still not enough)
3) transferring some money to our combined (non-NRI) account ? i know the financial statements wont be updated immediately, but still

Any suggestion will be appreciate !

Much Thanks !
