About my mom s visitor visa
Hi, My mom is attending interview in chennai consolate in july 1st week, my husband is sponsering her, we are green card holders.
Actually my younger sisters are studying back home and my father is not travelling with her. The problem is my mom is a home maker and dont have sufficient property to show, the property where we live is my mom s but records are yet to be made. will it be a problem to get the visa? even dads property not in his name yet, its in his dad s name.. my dad works in a private construction company as a supervisor. please do reply.. thanks..
I am so happy to share my experience to all as I was approved of B2 visa on second interview after refusal last week (see my post here last 31/5). I am in spouse visa in London.
The time I was refused, we really can't understand why. He didn't even see any document (a common moan on applicants). And after thinking and researching the internet like this site, we decided to book an appointment again the soonest I was available.
Though I am intimidated of the comments that it is risky to apply very soon since nothing has changed in your status as they say, and that it will ring a bell to them that you seem desperate and might have a real intention of migrating there, I still wanted to try again. I gathered all good tips esp. the letter (as I saw in this site). I have it addressed from my partner to show a joint effort(as we are both visiting the US) and to show his part of the reasons of coming back.
During the interview, I really insisted that he read the letter first as the consul started talking fast already. He took time anyway to read, and later he was talking to me in reference of the letter, and some other questions, like the ridiculous... "why does your partner have relatives in the US?" Anyway, I liked him being a bit stupid as I seemed to be in control. lol!
Sweetest words I can't forget..."Congratulations!Your visa is approved. Bring the blue slip in the courier counter outside."
My advise to all applying and reapplying: read first, read and prepare a lot before you do it. And yes, better present all right in the first time, or try harder the next time, esp. your "ties," as I think they're just too quick they miss out other information about you.
Hello everyone. I would like share my visa interview experience at US Embassy London. I am a Nepalese national (age 26), currently residing in the UK since May 2009 as a dependent of my husband, who currently holds Work Permit visa. I am presently working as an Administration Officer at a higher education institution. I applied for the US visitor visa to visit my sister and brother-in-law in the US and have a holiday with them for three weeks in July 2012, who are permanent resident of the US. My brother-in-law is employed by a state government in the US as a consultant and is earning $145,000 annually.
I badly wanted to visit my sister, but was very unsure on getting the visa as I heard from many friends whose visa applications were rejected stating that they did not have strong ties to the country of residence or the VO were not satisfied that they would return. However, I wanted to see how it goes for me. Me and my husband decided not to apply together as it would look like we are both trying to immigrate (my husband was not very eager to travel to US anyway). I booked my appointment a month in advance and did not fill the DS-160 until a week before. My bro-in-law posted the documents that I received way ahead of time.
I did not do much research on the interview because I did not want to be over conscious, but be spontaneous. My appointment was scheduled for 9 am, but I decided to be there in bit early and reached there at 8 am. To my surprise, there was already a big queue outside. I asked the security person if I would be allowed to take my cell phone with me or if there is a provision to keep my phone in a locker anywhere inside. They said I cannot go in with the phone, neither they have a provision of storing it for us, however they said there is a pharmacy nearby, and if we pay some money they can store it for us. Rather than going through all the hassle I passed it on to my husband, who came with me to the embassy (please note that none except the person with appointment is allowed in the embassy).
I passed the security clearance and got in the building at 8:50, where I was issued with the coupon no. They told me my number would be called. It was not long before my no was called and I went to the counter, (which I believed was my visa interview at the time). I gave the documents to the gentleman, with my appointment letter. He quickly scanned my documents (by his eyes) and asked where I was going, and why. I answered and I saw him typing something on his PC. He asked me to put my fingers on the scanner and scanned my prints. He kept my passport, handed me a courier form, and asked me to fill it in and wait for my number to be called. I was very confused coz I was told by people that the decision, whatsoever it would be, would be told to you during the interview, but they did not. I filled the forms with confusion and was waiting bit annoyed. When I happened to turn the form overleaf and read it, it explained the interview procedure. My interview was yet to take place!! I then patiently waited for my turn and it looked like my turn was never coming At 10 am my number was called and asked me to go to a certain counter.
The interview went like this:
Me: Good morning
VO: Goodmorning mam, how are you.
Me: I am fine thanks. (I wanted to give him my documents and he motioned me to keep it with me).
VO: So, where are you travelling to.
Me: XYZ state, city
VO: Really. You are the second person in a row who is travelling to the same place, the lady before you was also travelling to the same place.
Me: wow, thats a co-incidence.
VO: such co-incidents dont happen often
Me: Really . (I smiled)
VO: Why are u visiting US.
Me: To see my sister and bro-in-law and holiday with them
VO: what does your sister do.
Me: She is actually..studying. she does not work
VO: And your brother in law.
Me: He works with the sate gov. but a contractor, employed by ABC company..
VO: Yea I know. Ok whats your immigration status in UK and how long have you been here for.
Me: I am dependant of my husband who is in Work permit. I am here for three years, actually its been three years last month.
VO: What does your husband do and how long is he here for.
Me: He is in ABC profession and is residing in this country for last eight years.
VO: What company is it.
Me: ABC.
VO: What do you do.
Me: I am an administrator in ABC company.
VO: what do you do in your job.
Me: (briefly said what I do, in couple of sentence, a generic answer).
VO: How long are u visiting US for.
Me: three weeks. I have booked my annual leave for first three weeks in the next month.
VO: Thank you mam, I am happy to say that I have approved your application.
Me: Oh really. I am so glad. Thanks a lot. I am really happy and excited. Now, I will be seeing my sister after two years
VO: You can go to the courier counter and pay for your delivery. Take care.
Me: Thanks a lot and have a good day !!!
And so it went. It was quarter past ten when my interview was over. The interviewer even did not go through any of my documents. What ever happened, it was good and I am glad. I paid the courier fee and headed towards my work. Annoying part, could not call and inform my husband until I got to work. I called him from work and he was happy for me. I have received a text from the courier company that my documents will arrive in two days. Excited to know how long they have granted me visa for.
Following were the documents I submitted/carried with me to the embassy:
A covering letter
A copy of my application confirmation and payment confirmation letter
My passport and biometrics residence permit in the UK
A letter from my employer confirming my holidays and payslips
My current bank statement
A copy of my husbands passport and biometric residence permit in UK
From my sponsor (brother-in-law): Invitation letter, Affidavit of support (Form I-134),A copy of his passport and Green card, letter from his employer, copy of pay stubs, his recent bank statement, a copy of my sisters passport and Green Card.
Good luck to everyone. 
My mother (Widow) has traveled to USA on B-2 Visa at least a dozen times over last 15+ years. We applied for renewal of her B-2 Visa recently. She was called in for fingerprinting and after fingerprinting was done, she was told that she would receive here passport within a few days. No interview was scheduled and nothing else was asked. Does this mean that her Visa was basically renewed? May be she qualified for new Visa Interview Waiver scheme?

Today, my mother appeared for Visitor Visa - B2. The appointment was @ 9 am in the morning. Her interview was over in 5 minutes and we were heading for home by 09:30 am.
She was asked only few questions such as :
1. Is this self sponsored or someone sponsoring ?
2. How many child ?
3. What does they do ?
4. How much time you need vis for ?
5. Where does the sponsorer relative work ?
6. Is your husband travelling with you ?
She had requested and got Marathi Interpreter. Not a single document was asked. VO said visa granted and kept the PP with him and told her she shall receive it by courier in 3 days.
I want to thank immihelp for giving elaborate information on preparations. That really helped my mother well to prepare well for today.
I conclude following:
1. The decisions are made in most of the cases based on DS-160. I studied various sections of it and think there are conclusions drawn from each subsection.
2. Genuine profiles need not be worried about this process alhough there could be cases where luck plays major role).
3. We need to answer questions in DS-160 where we have document supporting the information. or use approproiate options given in the form.
4. Be confident during the interview.
Now we are keeping fingers crossed for receiving 10 years multiple entry visa.
