B2 Visa Approved for my Parents in New Delhi (May' 2012)
Hello !

Thanks a ton to immihelp for helping me out with the process and documentation for B2 Visa.

This was my parent's first ever Visa application and hence we followed each and every instruction available on this website.

I helped them in completing the online application forms and also with interview appointment scheduling.

My Dad got all documents(including originals of financials) arranged and filed neatly in multiple folders with contents highlighted on top.

Only the Appointment Letter, Passports and DS-160 was looked at. No other document was requested. Clearly my parents were over-prepared and a little disappointed with Visa Officer not reviewing supporting documents.

However, the list of questions I prepared reviewing posts available on this website helped them a lot. Hence, the interview was smooth.

The interview was conducted in Hindi(opted for translator). Following questions were asked:

To my Dad -

VO : Why do you want to go to US ?
Dad : Tourism and family visit.

VO : Who lives in US ?
Dad : Our son and daughter-in-law.

VO : Where does he work ?
Dad : Answered with company name I work for.

VO : Since when is he working in this company ?
Dad : Answered with date.

VO : Since when is he in US ?
Dad : Answered with date.

VO : Where do you work ?
Dad : Answered with employer's name.

VO : Since when are you working with your current employer ?
Dad : Answered with date and year.

VO : When do you intend to travel to US ?
Dad : Answered with tentative date of travel.

VO : How long are you planning to stay in US ?
Dad : Answered

VO : Is your leave approved for the mentioned duration ?
Dad : Yes

To my Mom -

VO : (Looked carefully at my Mom's passport and asked) What name(surname) did you use before marriage ?
Mom : Answered with surname she used before marriage.

[Co-incidently, this was the only thing which I missed while submitting the form online. In the applicant's personal information section which says - "Have you ever used any other name ?", we should have provided Mom's name before marriage.]

No more questions were asked and visas were approved for both.

While the questions and answers were being translated back & forth, the VO was also looking at the records available in the system.

Hence, it is recommended that the answers during interview match-up with the information submitted online(forms).

All the Best !

Regards,
Happy Son !

Thanks immihelp!
My parents VISA interview was scheduled 16th April in Mumbai. We had opted for Marathi translator. First thing we observed was that the appointment letter says to come just 15 mins before the interview. But infact they start allowing people to enter the office 1 to 1.5 hrs before. So it is recommended to reach atleast 1 hour before.
During the interview no documents were asked to be shown. They asked 5-6 questions:
1. Why do you want to go to US
2. Why do you want to go for 6 months
3. Where are you working
4. Where is your sponsor working
5. Will you go back to US after this trip
6. How many children do you have ? What do they do - (to my mother)

Your VISA is granted. Have a pleasant trip to US!!!

My parents were stopped several times while talking & were told to answer only the question & not to give more details. Also they said no documents are required ... just answer the questions !

Though docs were not required, the docs helped my parents a lot in understanding & preparing for the interview. Few things in favor of my parents:
- My father is working & not yet retired
- He had got a leave approval letter for 6 months from his company which stated that he will resume work after his US trip
- He also had company bonafide certificate
- He replied to all the questions with confidence

One most important thing which I did was that I read all the instructions on all the pages of immihelp. It is a gr8 resource. If you prepare the docs as directed & go through the interview questions gettting VISA becomes easy.

I apllied for visitor's visa twice. First time me andd my husband both applied, for it that time it got rejected with the reason that our both sons are in US so their is no reason for us to come back to India. I applied it again for only myself and proved that I will be coming back to India for my husband after 2 months, I just want to visit my son in US. This time they rejected my visa with the reason that my both sons are in different states and gov. doesnt aprrove such visas.
