Parents visa approved, Chennai
Thanks for the Immihelp. My parents got visa approval from chennai. They were ready with all the documants properly arranged and with out much pressure. Each one had separate folder with names labelled. The documents from sponsor and from visitor were arranged on 2 sides of the folder (left and right)and were clearly labelled.
The officer was friendly and asked the documents. He just went trough it (few seconds)and asked few qestions to my father and asked to submit fee and passport. It took less than 5 min.
How long your son has been in US?
How many years you were in service in India?
How much pension you get?
How long you want to visit?
That is it. They got it!
Good luck for all others who try visit visa.

hello everybody,
we are very happy to share with you that my parents got 10 years multiple entry visa to USA from chennai consulate. They have 3 kids and all of them live here in USA. Chennai embassy do not simple reject visa. The officers there are well trained. They can judge completely about a person even based on their looks.
(1) dress appropriately and greet the officer
(2) we did not hide anything from them. we made them understand that we are honest(from our posture). our dad is not yet retired. that helped us too. we clearly said tha our mom and dad are coming here for tourism and our mom and dad knew where all they are going to visit during their stay in USA.
Thats it. they got their visa.
IMP: goign their with confidence, not giving them more information than they ask, and making them feel assured that we will come back.

Visitor's Visa - For parents and in-laws-approved
My in-laws and parents went for a visitor visa interview at Chennai. They appeared on 2 different days on 21st and 26th April respectively. Here are the experiences. I was the sponsor in both the cases. Thanks to immihelp for the sample documents that was prepared for both of them. Guys, it was perfect!!!!!

In laws
--------
My MIL who is a lecturer in a college in India had visited us in '00 for 6 months. FIL, a doctor was appearing for the first time
Appointment time: 11:00 AM
But they were let in at 9:00 AM. Called for the interview at about 9:30. Following questions were asked.

What does your son-in-law do?
Ans: He works as a YYYY at YYYY company.

Asked my MIL, how many children do you have and what do they do?
Ans: My elder son works at AAAA company in US. He has been there for 3 months and his assignment in US is till October and younger son works for a multinational company in India. Our daughter is a homemaker.

Asked my MIL, for how long were you in US during your last visit? Why do you want to go again.
Ans: I was there for 6 months and since my son-in-law did not get enough vacation we could not go around. We want to see as many places as we can during our stay.
At this point the CO was frantically looking for a arrival stamping in India, which my MIL was able to locate.

How long do you plan to visit US?
Ans: For about 4 months.

That was it. They were asked to pay the fees and were fingerprinted. They received the passport in 2 days. The visa was for 10 years.

Parents
--------
As per our in-laws advise they also reached the Chennai consulate at 9:00 AM. Within minutes they were called for. The CO was very polite and cooperative. She wished them 'Good Morning' which was reciprocated by my parents.

1. How are you doing?
Ans: We are fine, thank you and how about you.

2. Fine, what does your son do?
Ans: He works as a YYYY at YYYY company.

3. What is your daughter-in-law's name?
Ans: Her name is AAAA

4.She asked my father what he did for a living?
Ans: I work for _____ Company as ____.

5. How many sons do you have and what do they do?
Ans: We have 2 sons, one in US and the other works in India for a software firm.

She gave a smile and said that they could pay the fees. My parents fingerprinted, paid the fees and came back. The whole process took less than 20 minutes. They got their passports the very next day. The visa was for 5 years as their passports are expiring in 2010. Although it would seem cliché but still I would like to reiterate that proper documentation and oodles of confidence is what you need when you appear for the visa interview.

Thanks for everyone who have posted their experiences in this forum as it has helped us tremendously.

Visitor visa for In-Laws approved
All,
My In-Laws got their visitor visa approved today. They had a 9 a.m. appointment and were let in by 8 itself. The whole process was over within 30 mins and surprisingly they had a pleasant experience compared to what most of our kins go through. Even though they have opted for Tamil Translator, it was not necessary since the CO . very few Questions were asked to my Father-In-Law.

1) "Sowkiyama Irukeengala"?
2) Howmany kids and where are they?
3) What do you do for living?
4) "Valathu kai viral neettunga"! Finger!!

And asked to pay fees; No documents asked. The information in this site helped a lot to be prepared.

Good Luck Eveyone!
