Visitor Visa help please!
Hi All,
My parents went for visitor visa second time. The purpose of their visit was to attend my graduation ceremony and toursim. The visa officer rejected the visa saying that the government rules are very strict and my parents have no sufficient reason to go. Their visa was rejected again under section 214(b).

Does anybody have any ideas. how can we find the exact reason. or how should we proceed with it. Please let me know if anybody has acceptance after two 214(b) rejections.

Thanks.

Visa
My parents attended the interview on April 6th at Delhi Embassy and were not told if they got the visa. however, they took their passports and all the DD's. My dad works for NFC ( nuclear fuel complex ) as a sceintific officer and the lady at the counter asked him to show the paper work for research papers, study and asked him to fill a questionnaire regarding his job. They even asked him to send his resume to [email protected]( which i believe is some kind of a NAFSA database).

There is one more thing, the guy who verified the paper work did not take their photographs. They only took one photo ( attached to the DS-156). Is that a problem? how many photographs do they need to submit?

I would appreciate if you someone could share their experience in the similar situation.

Thanks,
PV

221(g) refusal
Hi,

Can any body give some advice.

I applied for a B1 visa last year in aug 2004. My company wanted me to send me for some trainig purpose.I got a 221(g) rejection in august last year 2004. The consulate at chenai had asked me to wait for an administrative processing. I had submitted a invitation letter at that time.
This week after long 7 months waiting time I got an email from the consulate asking me to courier the passport , issuance fee , refilled form 156 and a photograph via the tts .

Should I again provide a new invitation letter with these documents , athough its not specified in the mail.
I mean suppose I dont want to travel now since the conditions have changed after waitng for 7 months , but still I want my status clear . They have already put a stamp of application recieved , but there's no visa in my passport , which might affect me in case I apply in future.

If any one has had a simmilar experiece please share it with me and advise me.

thanks

Parents and sister got 10 years visa!!
Hi,

My parents and younger sister appeared at Mumbai consulate on 6th Apr 2005 and were granted 10 years visa!

My dad had been a NRI for 18 years and he has settled in India for the last 11 years. Here are the questions asked:

To my Dad:
1. Have you ever been to US?
No.
2. Have you ever been out of india?
Yes. Was in Dubai for 18 years.
3. Do you have any proof?
Yes, here is the letter from bank I used to work for.
4. What was your salary when you left Dubai?
YYYY

To my sister:
1. What are you doing currently?
Doing my MBA.
2. What are your future plans?
I will be done with my MBA in May. I have secured a job with XYZ company and will be joining there once I return back from US.

THATZ ALL!! He did not see a single document I had sent. He did not talk to my mother. He finally said "We are granting you the visa. Enjoy your trip".

I'm so glad they got the visa. I feel the key is in being confident. Take the time to train your folks and tell them what to expect. I feel the first few mins of the interview really set the tone and makes a difference on the outcome.

Thanks to immihelp and all of you for sharing your experiences here.

Visitor visa granted
My parents applied for B2 visa at Mumbai consulate on April 6th. The first time they had applied was 4 years ago. At that time they had got the visa for just 6 months.

What I got to know from them was that while they were waiting outside the consulate in the line one of the Consulate person checked the line and actually took some of the elderly people right away inside. This was a very nice and appreciative effort by the Consulate. Once inside the same person also asked everyone if they want the interview in English/Hindi or any other language.

The folloing questions were asked to my parents to which they gave brief and concise answers.
Why are you going to USA?
Who is there?
When was the last time you went there?
when was the last time you met your son?
Where does he work? (For this my parents answered about my whereabouts and also presented one of my visiting cards to them)
Do you have any other childern?
Where are they?
What do they do?
Who is sponsoring your travel?

At the end they mentioned that you may now leave and your passports will be couriered to you and you should get it within 3 days.

My parents actually got their passports the very next day in the morning by courier and they were stamped for 10 years!!!

It seems there was another elderly couple before them and they were rejected (do not know exactly for what reason) they were repeatedly trying to convince the interviewer that they will be coming back to India and have no intention of staying back there. They were also trying to present papers, but were repeatedly told by the interviewer that there is no point in it and you will not get visa. This scene caused a little bit of worry and uneasyness to my parents.

It looks like if all your papers are in order and filled/signed corectly that are couried to the consulate and during the interview process if you answer all the questions confidently your chances of getting the visa are very high.

Best wishes to immihelp and thank you for providing this place for everyone to share their experiences.

Visitor Visa granted to my Parents
My Parents visited chennai consulate on 4/5/05 for their visa first time.
The Visa Officer did not ask for any documents(Sponsor/Visitor) except thier application forms and asked the following questions
1) Who is there in US?
Ans : Son
2) What he will do?
Ans : Software
3) How many sons you have?
Ans: 2, 1 in US and 1 in India.
4) How long you are going?
Ans: 4 months
After that Q & A, the translator told my parents you got the visa and pay the 2200 DDs and to follow the finger print process.

Thanx to Immihelp and the people posting the stuff, This is a very good source for preparing the documentation and preparing for interview process.
One advise to the sponsors : Please take a look at the documentation which we are sending for correctness and also the visitor documents.
My parents told me there were quiet no of applicants who were being sent out/coming out for some silly mistakes they have done in their documentation because of in a hurry and tension.
Folloing are some of the incidents happened that day.
1) They have not signed the visa application form
2) The DD's were old conversion of $ rate. Even though the amount is more than what consulate needs they are not accepting it.
3) There is a 441 dd for each applicant for TTS services even though our parents go together. They do accept the CASH, but some people thought they did not need the cash so they did not carried while they entering into visa office. So they have to come out and get the cash, sometimes they were not allowed in because of whatever reasons.

Don't take otherwise but I reuqest to each sponsorer to make sure the documentation is being done right and wherever possible fill the information yourself as all the forms available on line these days and send them everything at once and minimize the dependency on the documenation for our parents/in-laws/friends.

Visa granted for my parents.
Dear ImmiHelp & Members,

Thanks a lot for the useful informations and shared experiences .It helped us a lot.

My hus was the sponsorer as am not working. My parents had their interivew on Tuesday at 9:30 am.They reached there by 8:30am It was heavily raining, but they got into the consulate by 9am.

They had all the documents listed in this site.

I had sent them the printout of possible questions and the procedure at the consulate.

Eventhough we ask them not be tensed , they cant help it.But they tried to be plesant for the interview.

They both were a bit nervous for the interview as 5 others who were before them got rejected. But my parents told that the interviewer was a young chap and was v nice to them.

He just asked one question to my dad and mom-
What do they do? They answered and the visa was granted.I was really surprised to hear that.Thank God!!

We had arranged for a translator, but my parents answered in English.

So others who are gettin ready for the interview, please dont worry.Hope for the best .
GoodLuck!!

Parents visa decision hanging
I'm not sure if I understood the situation correctly.

The consulate did not express any decisions to my parents, they took the passport and the money for the process, but did not take any of the paperwork and supporting documentation, except for the application form my parents filled out.

Also, my father lived in the US in the US from 69-73 and did his PhD. He has now been asked to answer some 10 questions which include providing detailed information of what his study involved, and all the research papers he published in the past 30+ yrs.

They said that the decision will be made on the basis of what my father fills out in the forms sometime in 6 weeks.

Any ideas?

Regards
- Ax
