Parents got visa approval on first interview.
hi,

I too got word from my parents today that they got their visitor's visa approval at the chennai consulate on april 4th,2004.

I would give all credit to this website which has explained everything in detail ,including visitor and sponsor documents as well as the immense help gathered from reading the forums.

Many of my friends had employed the help of professional agencies to prepare documents etc and had told me that I was making a blunder by not doing the same .

However I did not do so and decided to give this a try and it worked.I will post the questions asked of my parents at a later time once they get back home from chennai.

Thanks again Immihelp!!

We dont know how long the visa permit is given at this point of time and waiting for passports to reach home to know.

Anyways it turned out as an easy one. Thanks for immihelp for the excellent service.

Mom got 10 yrs visa
I am very thankful to the Immihelp.com All the documents were prepared as per site and my mom got 10 yrs visa at mumbai.
I lost my dad last year so i was worried about her visa but everything went well.
we took interim appointment for Mar29th but, there was a problwm with logistic fee DD. Instead of "VFS" the bank guys wrote "VFC",because of this confirm appointment was given for 30th Mar.
My suggestion is people should check the DD very carefully before sending.
Some of the question asked.
Why you want to go?
who is in USA?
what is he doing?
what do you do in India?
where do you work?
Can i see the employee ID?
what subject do you Teach?(My mother is a Lecturer)
why do you teach this subject?
why your husband is not going with you?
how many childrens do you have?
Thats it the visa was granted.

Mother's Visa denied in Delhi Consulate
All the documents were prepared after consulting the web site which I must commend is very detailed and helpful as well talking to friends. My husband was the sponsor and all the documents were meticulously prepared along with letter, affidavits and proof of income and finances both from our end and by my uncle at her end. We even prepared her with the list of potential questions and answers.

My Mother went for interview on March 31 at the Delhi Consulate. Although she lives in Ranchi, we had taken the Delhi appointment due to our family being there and Kolkatta was not open when I booked on the TTS website in Jan 05, also the biggest factor there are no direct flights from Ranchi to Kolkatta, and train travel is a strain for her right now due to medical reasons.

The interview started on a bad note when the embassy official aksed her why Delhi and not Kolkatta, when she gave the reasons stated above, he did not look convinced.

Other Questions asked :
1. Why do you want to visit US
Ans : For toursism peuposes and to visit my daughter and Son - in law

2.Was asked for my husband's passport copy, she handed it over to him. He pointed to my Husband's photo and asked who is this ?
Ans : My Son in law

Thats it, he went over the passport papers and gave it back to her saying that it was valid only till 2004. He was vague and first she though he meant the passport, which is actually valid till 2011, when he said visa When she tried to hand over his new I-797 which is valid till 2006, he did not listen to her and said " sorry maam"

She was given the 214(b) as the reason for rejection, he did not even check her documents, fiancials affidavit etc or the I-134 sent by us. She is a runs her own business is financially independent, supports some of the family members and I have an unmarried brother back in India.

We will apply again, she says the officia said it is better to apply in Kolkatta and we will give it another shot. We have not seen her in more than two years, and emotionally it is a big setback to all of us. It is really difficult to say what is the right thing to do, we were very hopeful that she would get it as there is no reason for her to be in the US, apart from me being here on a temporary basis.

Visa granted for my in-laws
My in-laws had an interview between 9:15am and 9:30am on March 31st, 2005 at US Consulate, Chennai. They were let inside at 8am. However, their interview got delayed because of limited availability of Kannada translators.

My father-in-law was asked the following questions:
1. Who is living in the US?
2. Where are they living?
3. Where did you work before retirement?
4. What is the duration of your trip?

My mother-in-law was asked the following questions:
1. How many children do you have?
2. Where do the children live?
3. Are the children married?

Both answered the questions confidently and were not asked any document (neither Sponsors' nor Visitors') and were told that their Visitor's Visa had been granted and were told to pay the DD at the counter and that they would be receiving their passports via courier within 3 days.

However, 7 families were denied a Visitor's Visa before my in-laws and they were given a list of documents that were missing. I think there is no proper basis for granting or denying a Visitor's Visa to the US. It all depends on the daily quota or the mood of the American person at the Consulate.

I would like to thank this website which gave us all the information that we needed and more importantly the experiences of various people which helped us in preparing my in-laws prior to the interview.

Parent's got a 10 yr multiple entry visa at Bombay consulate.
hi all,
I would like to return the help that I ve got from this site by posting in my parents experience here. They went on March 29th, 8:30 am for their Visitor's Visa (first time) to Mumbai Consulate. Apparently they were to interview with a consul officer who had been rejecting quite a few people. But she was very polite with them. She asked my Dad questions such as who is in the US, how many kids do you have, Did she go there to study, who paid for her education, how could you afford to pay for her education etc.
My dad answered everything honestly. I am their only daughter and he paid for my education here. I was worried that this case would be dicey as I am the only child etc, but I think that in turn turned in our favour and they got a 10 year multiple entry visa. Before leaving my dad asked the consul, for how many years have you issued us the visa, so she said for ten years.
My parents were not asked for a single document , including my I-134 form. In fact they even feel, that the case was already pre-decided by the consul after looking at all the documents sent earlier (DS-156 forms etc.). It truly is a mix of good luck, timing and an honest case, presented before the consul officer, I think!
It quite a relief as for the next 10 years my parents or I wouldnt have to go through this process again.
Thanks for your help immihelp.com

Sister's visa approved for 5 years in second try
Thanks to immihelp.com for the useful advisory postings on the website and maintaining the discussion forums.
My sister and Brother-in-laws visa was approved in second try for 5 years at Delhi consulate.
Questioning was thorough in that they asked all of the details about my brother-in-laws's job, his title, job responsibilities, even asked the name of school where my niece studies in India. They also asked all of my details regarding which year I went to US, what visa status, which university, how long I have been working.
One interesting point was that this time they were interviewed by a diferent officer this time. My sister was mentioning that lot of people were being redirected to different officers. One assumption is that, a different officer than the one who previously rejected your visa does the second interview. May be to get a different view point.
Anyway, I do hope that they institute a policy like this wherein people can present their case to a different officer in different attempts.
Best of Luck to everyone else and hope summer is good for you all also.

Mom got Visitor's Visa in the first go.
Immihelp.com helped a lot in preparing for the interview. My mom went alone (as Dad already had a multiple entry visa). She informed them at the gate that she needs an interpreter. The officer who interviewed her spoke in hindi. They asked her questions related to me(daughter) and saw my papers only and nothing else.
Asked her questions about my Dad's salary, when she would come back, how many children, where they are living in India and abroad, and why does she want to go to the US.
The officer was good, she even made him repeat 2-3 questions. Overall it got over in 10 min. The 'key' is to be confident. I prepared my mom atleast a month in advance, sent her a list of all possible questions and also asked her to go through all the papers properly that we were sending to her.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!
