My mother got 10 yrs visa!
Hello All,

My many thanks to this forum and people who share their experiences here.

My mother (widow) went for her first visa stamping on April 12th and got a 10 yr visa. We used a Kannada translator even though she was confident of managing it in Engligh. She is employed with a PSU and had a NOC from her employer.

The questions asked:

Who is there in the US? Daughter and SIL

Who is sponsoring you? SIL

Where is he working? ZZZ
  - Here she voluntarily told that even she is employed and has a NOC! The officer smiled and asked for the NOC. Dont know if that helped!

How many kids? 2

What is your son doing? Employed with a Big IT firm.

When is your son going to US? My mom answered that she DOESNT KNOW!!

When did your husband pass away?

That's it and not a single document was checked.

Her only complaint was that she had to wait for 3 hrs for the Kannada translator even when she did not want one ;-)

Goodluck to all of you :)

3. Do you have any children?
A. No
4. How many years u r working in UAE?
A. 10 yrs
5. Who is June who is sponsoring you?
A. My friend
6. How do you know her?
A. She was my room mate

A 7 years
8 When did you meet her
A. 6 yrs back
9. Do you have any people of your own in Dubai

10 Show me the letter from your company?

Visa officer read it – he gave her the print out saying visa is rejected under section 214 (b). Unable to show strong social and economic ties to the country of your residence to ensure that your visit to US is temporary.

But informed her "you have only tourist visas to Singapore and Thailand which is not strong enough for her to give you a tourist visa to USA".

Can she request another interview and show them that her travel is temporary as she has a mentally retarded brother and sister whom she has to take care of who are in India and she visits them every 6 months. (should these documents be translated and attested) or she should go with SOTC travels to USA.

She is the resident of UAE – Dubai

Please advice.

Form 158
My parents will be going to Calcutta for interview on 20th. My father is over 60 and mother is over 55. Does anyone know if they will be requiring form 158. I know 156 is required for both and 157 is required for my father. But 158? This form is listed in the consulate's website.

Any insight on this form 158 and if it is required for VISITOR visa?

Parents Visitor visa Approved @ Chennai on 4/13/05
My Parents had an appointment at 930 AM on the 13th. Their visaa were approved; but I don't yet know if it is 6 months or 10 years but I am hoping it is 10 years. The lady at the counter asked my dad the following questions:
1)What do you do?

  What does APSRTC stand for?

2)What is your annual salary?

3)When do you retire?

4)What does your so do?

Then she asked my mom; how many kids do you have? My mom said two; one is in US and the other is in Hyderabad;
The officer asked what my brother did in India and my mom answered. They were told the visa was approved and asked to pay the fee.

Thanks so much to this website and every one in the discussion forums for all your advice.
Thanks again, Immihelp!

Parents visitor visa approved ( Mumbai consulate)
Hi All.
Parents visitor visa approved (Mumbai consulate. April 11, 2005). Don't know the duration yet. Thanks very much to immihelp.com and the readers who posted their experiences on immihelp. Prepared each and every document per immihelp only and built a customized FAQ for parents based on questions posted on this site. Had done thorough preparation of documents and intw, no question about that.
My Dad is retired and Mom is homemaker.
Parents greeted the officer.
I had purposely asked my Parents to ask for Marathi translator though my Dad and Mom is conversant in English to avoid any communication gap due US english accent/terminology, Consulate officer asked if she could ask questions in Hindi and started asking questions in Hindi.[unbelievable but true :-)]. Dad said yes.
Which company does your son work? XYZ
How long is he in US? Xyrs
Does he have children? No
Is your daughter in law pregnant? No
To Dad :Does your son send money ? I have money, was working for 30+yrs and now retd.(Not sure what they are looking for in this question).
Do you have children in India? Yes.
How long you'll stay in US? 2mths.
The intw lasted for five minutes only.
Thats it, not a single document asked.
The officer said, you have got your visa, will get your passport in two days.
Parents smiled and thanked the officer, officer smiled too.
Best wishes to people facing the intw.
