Hi All,
My mom's visa got rejected under section 214b.She is a government employee(Principal) in high sec school. She got her NOC sanctioned. She had other documnmets like bank statement, etc. We also send her the affidavit of support I-134.The visa counsellar asked her,
How many children do u have
She replied-2,one son and one daughter.
He asked where does u'r son live and what does he do,how old is he?
My mom answered that he has his own business and he's 25 years old.
Then he said why r u leaving u'r son alone?
My mom replied that her MIL stays with them and her son is big enough to take care of himself.
But the visa couns. said that no,it'll be tough for u'r son to stay alone.
And he refused the visa.

Her's was a straightforward case that she has to return back to India as she is a government employee and has her family there.
I've no clue why they refused the visa. Can someone suggest what can be the reason?

Thanks,
Puja

Mother-In-Law got 10 years multiple entry visa at Chennai
First Thanks to IMMIHELP for providing great help

First time my MIL(Mother-in-law) and FIL(father-in-law) both went for visa in may and visa got rejected under 2149(B).

Actually my FIL not coming to US. Just to increase the visa chances we sent both for visa, but it was failed.

first time we took english interview.

On that we were depressed, I thought they will never get visa...After reading so many experiences
I got some confident that we can try for next time..

and we got appointment on August 4th..

And we were checking ttservises website everyday..and finally we abole to modified to july 14th..

This time only my MIL went for visa and we took telugu interview

This time we decided not to take any chance..because my wife's due date is in august 2nd week..

we tried to get the senator letter..
we called 2 local senators..one told, they will not give any such letter and the other told send the request by fax/e-mail...

I sent my request in june...
now they are processing the requests received on may..To open my case it will take one month..but i have appointment in july..then i dropped this option...

then contacted congress womem..
she told she will write a letter to consulate general..

we have visa appointment on july 14th..she told, sent the letter ...

I don't know whether american consulate received or not

because congress women didn't give the copy of that letter..

FOR THOSE WHO ARE TRYING FOR SENATOR LETTER, IF YOU DON'T GET IT; DON"T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT..

SENATOR LETTER WILL NOT HELP IN GETTING VISA

We have to be perfect in our documents

In Consulate letter we mentioned family ties in india, property, why she is coming to usa now, etc...

and also we attached the my MIL affidavit
to consulate letter and also attached the letter from my FIL (The reason for not accompanying my MIL) and the Travel plans in USA for 3 months..

Consulate read all these documents and asked questions like

1) Who is prepared Travlel Itenary ?

2) why u r visa got rejected in may ?

she told last time we took english and we didn't understand the questions properly

3) Why u r husband not coming with you ?

4) how many months u want to stay in USA ?

5) how many childrens u have and where are they ?

6) is u r daughter was in USA before marriage ?

7) when didn u r daughter got marred and when did she went to USA ?

and finally told visa granted

for those visa got rejected, you don't have to worry..next time prepare documents very carefully...

You have to make sure Consulate will read your parents affidavit (family ties, property etc..) ..

The only way he can read is attach the affidavit to sponser consulate letter

And also mention family ties in consulate letter..

Senator's letter and the consulates in india
Hello,
I personally don't think Senator letters make a difference at the consulates. The senator's have no authority over the consulate officer's in India and they will be the first to tell you that. I know of cases where these letters did not make a difference and the visas were still rejected. For every case that succeeded with a senator's letter one can find a case where the visa request was rejected. Various immigration lawyers and pretty much all of them agree that senator letters do not make a difference just like how a lawyer cannot represent somebody for a visitor visa at a consulate.

The senator letters only ask that the consulate in India should look at the attached correspondence(which is usually the case history you provide to the senator's office as a part of "authorization to release private information" form ) and do the needful to comply with the visitor visa request. Beyond that they cannot really do anything more. Senator's offices will tell you that they cannot guarantee/get the desired outcome, but they can initiate inquiries with the hope that the case gets closer attention. If one were to go back 3 years and search across the various forums, you would see that some people feel these letters only anger the consular officers.

The consulates in India feel that the political appointees here do not truly understand the climate "trust" abroad. Can we really blame the consulates after the way our peers submitted fake degree certificates to get visas?

Unfortunately the system get's abused and the honest people pay a price. I am sorry that I do not have any real constructive advice. Thought I'd share what I knew about senator letters and I hope this is not seen as a rant. Of course this is all my opinion.

Granted 10 years Multi entry visa to both my Parents and Parents-in-law
First of All I would like to thank Immihelp for posting all the information one would need to know before going to the U.S CONSULATE for the visa. Ours is a rare case and we are happy to inform that both our parents, Mine and my Husband’s got 10 Years multi entry visa.
WHY RARE……Because ……….
All four of them attended the interview together at Chennai Consulate.
Their interview was scheduled for 10.30a.m and they had asked for the translator since both my mother and mother-in-law don’t speak English. They were interviewed at 3.00p.m as the translator came late. Otherwise everything went on smoothly.
The questions asked were……..
1) What is you daughter doing?
2) My Father and Father-in-law were asked about their job?
3) Since both of them are retired, the next question was, what was their occupation
4) How will your daughter manage, if you all four of you visit together
Ans:- we will visit in two…
And that’s it… he asked them to pay the fee and the visa is granted.
once again our thanks to IMMIHELP

GOOD LUCK
KK

Parents got 10yr Visa at chennai consulate!
Hi!My parents applied for their visa during 2002 and their visa was rejected on the basis of 214b.My brother who had been on L1 at that time sponsored for their trip.My dad is now 58 yrs and my mom is 52 yrs.Right now my husband sponsored for their trip with all the documents mentioned as in this site.Parents had their interview on july 7th at 9:45am.But due to many of them waiting before them with earlier time appt their inte'w actually took place around 10:45am.As u enter the consulate they verify your appt with the passport, and then they ask u to submit the dd's and they return back the one for the Visa fees to u.Then ur asked to submit the DS-156 form, passport copy and sponsor Documents. My dad gave all the sponsor's Documents but the person over the counter said he didn't need all and asked for I-134,followed by my passport copy. Then he returned back the passport and their DS-156 forms. My parents had opted for int'w in Tamil. They were given number cards and as they were waiting they called out some no's and their no was called out too and they were asked to go to one of the counters. As their turn came they found to their dismay that there was no translator, and to add to their surprise the interviewer was an American who had started to putforth qs in Tamil. He had in his hand the affidavit of support I-134 and my passport copy.
As soon as they neared the counter my parents greeted him with a GoodMorning!and he did the same. These r the following qs he asked to my dad only.

 who is in u.s?
 my sil.
 How many kids u have?
daughter and son.daughter in u.s and son is with us.
When did u'r daughter visit u?
 he said so and so.
 when did she go back?
 he said so and so.
what did u do before u retired?
dad said he worked as so and so.
(here the officer asked him again and he repeated )
 how much was your salary?
 xxxyyy thousand rupees per annum.
 how much is your pension?
xxyy rupees.(my dad said he has documents and he tried to pull it out,but the officer said he needn't)
how many mths visa u want?
 3-4 months.
 Where does u'r son work?
he told he is working for so and so,and he said he has documents to show, but the officer said no need for any documents.
Finally,he said you got your visa and u can pay at the counter. They did after thanking him.
parents recd their passport on july 9th with a multiple entry on it.

I would like to mention few things to people who r going to appear for the int'w.
Do have all u'r documents listed as mentioned in this site. It's a must to send along u'r spouses's passport copy.
ask parents or in-laws to prepare an affidavit as mentioned in this site and to have supporting documents for whatever they have mentioned in their affidavit.Pl have some family pictures to show u'r family ties in India.
Do read all the experiences posted here so u'll be able to make a list of all qs asked during the int'w.U may come across the same qs,but they may be different in the way they have been put forward,so make a list of all qs and the ans's u'r parents have to give for that.
One more important thing is be sure about the figures and the dates u r going to mention.U don't want to get confused with that.Do train u'r parents to say that they have supporting documents to show.(for eg: if they ask like where is u'r son working in chennai, say so and so and tell there is supporting document to show and pull it out.)it's up to the officer to decide whether he needs it or not,so do practice by saying that u have supporting documents for so and so which will eventually lead u to pull out the documents.
do train u'r parents with int'w qs many times, till they r confident with their ans.Be confident, even if it was rejected like ours in u'r first attempt,u'll surely get it on u'r 2nd attempt.Talk boldy and confidently.U can't cut out u'r tension but still don't show it out.Greet all the consulate people whomever u come across with a big smile and a hello!Sure u'r tension will be relieved.
Wishing Good Luck to u all!
Thanxs to immihelp for their wonderful help and to all the people who have shared their experiences with others.

Visitor visa for relatives
Has anyone had any experience sponsoring uncles/aunts for a visitor visa for US? I am trying to sponsor my aunt (mom's sister) to visit me in the US, and I am wondering what kind of questions may be asked on this case at the Chennai consulate. Would greatly appreciate responses from anybody with any experience sponsoring immediate brothers/sisters of your parents.

Thanks

Parents of only son got visa
Hi:

we had read so many experiences of parents of only son or daughter in U.S.A getting rejected in various consulates

Well my husbands parents (my husband is their only son) applied at chennai consulate and they got their visa. They were asked 4 questions in the interview
1. Who is in U.S.A
  my son
2. How long you want to go
3 to 4 months as we have business here and we have to return to our businesses
3. what business do you have
explained business
4. is he your own son
Yes and i have the birth certificate(The reason teh consulate officer would have asked the question is that the fathers name in my husband passport was abbreviated whereas in fathers passport it had the full name)

Ok go ahead and pay the fees. It was unbelievable to my in laws and they went happily to pay the fees

We dont know how many years visa they got . I will keep you updated about that

I feel that the following tips will help you

1. write reasons that your parents will return in the cover letter from sponsor to consulate. Also write down all documents that you are sending with the cover letter in the letter itself under ENCLOSURES

2. Add tabs to the sponsor documents and bunch them together

3. Prepare your parents for a detailed interview. write down the questions and answers for them

4. they should be confident.

Good luck to everyone else

Parents Got 1 year Visa at Chennai through Drop Box
Hi,
Thanks for all your help. Otherwise we would not have done it this fast. As soon as I heard that dropbox is going to end by June 30th. I sent all the papers on Friday and it reached on Monday, parents droped it on Tuesday 29th through TTS. They got the passport back on July 7th. One year Visa was stamped on July 2nd. The problem in our case is my father do not have any property or anything. My mom is finishing her 60th birthday by this July end only. So I was worried too much...By God's grace they got it. Even though they are comming for my delivery I wrote as tourism purpose only. I arranged the documents as per the order mentioned here.

Thanks for your extensive Help.

For those who are alll waiting you time will come Soon. You will also get visa like us.
