Visitor Visa rejected in Mumbai
My in-laws had interview at the mumbai consulate couple of months ago and they were rejected based on following question:
1) What's your annual income?
Ans: Rs. YYYY

and That's it, the officer said "we can't issue visa to you guys" .They haven't even got to the point of checking in-laws documents.
Now this time around, my mother-in-law applied herself and father-in-law didn't because he didn't have vacation to come into usa. She went into the US consulate for the interview and they asked following question,

1)Why is your husband not applying for vistor visa
Ans: He has no vacation and he is working

That's it. They rejected her visa again without even asking any more questions. Now she is kind of confused on what to do next? I'm confused as well.

Should she apply again? or is there anything I can do from here? Any suggestions appreciated.

Mother-in-law got Visa in Chennai
MIL attended chennai on 7 july. she is a widow, and has an unmarried daughter living with her in India. Her appointment was in English, she requested for a telugu translator. but that did not workout. all the translators were busy at that time, so no translator was arranged., she says, the interview took place in english only. the visa officer was very nice, and tried to ask questions in engligh but slowly. by repeating the questions. and he was making sure, she understood what he was asking.
the following questions were asked.
1.purpose of visit,
--she said tourism and to visit daughter..
2.how many children ?
-- n. has one younger unmarried daughter , still in college. studying in our town.
3. what was husband's job? and years of service..
4. why son-in-law is sponsering? why not your daughter.?
-- she said, daughter is a house wife and on h4. she said son-in-law works.
5. how long do you want to stay there?
-- Daughter asking me to stay for 6 months, but, i cannot stay that long. I am planning for 4 months, as need to come back to take care of younger daugher.

The visa officer looked at documents..

VO: okay. submit your passport , you will receive visa in courier.
she thanked him.
--Thanks immihelp and all other members for posting valuable info. I follwed immi help. from start to finish. Thank you.

reply to tina from chicago
hi tina,

i know u must be tensed for your people to get visa , as u told that ur parents r going to send the sponser for al the 4 members of ur sisters family, like for ur sis her husband n for her kids,so i think this way sending for a sponser for whole family will be doubt full for the counseller that full family of ur sister r going n tjhat to father is sponsering will creat a problem, may be the counsellar will think thayt all r going so will not come definatly becoz the family applying is also having a strong moral support of her father. n this will dam sure come in the cousellers mind so i feel that if ur sis`s husband is doing any bussiness than tell him to produce his last 3 yrs INCOME TAX return paapers,6 months bank state ment n show that they r going in any tour so take the tour itenary n by heart the tour cost for the both husband n wife n the fare for the kids if it is different.

in the form to be filled in the question ,that how many weeks would u like to stay ,u should fill 5 weeks n a very important thing that if the kids r schooling than i personally suggest that only apply in vaccation not in school working day becoz this will be the 2nd strong point that counsellar will think that how come school is going on n the kids r going to the tour to UNITED STATES SO NOW IF U PLAN TO APPLY ,THAN I SUGGEST TO WAIT FOR THE DIWALI VACCATION.
secondly if the kids r schools than bring a letter from the school mentioning that to whom so ever it may concern ,n in detail that child is studying in so n so school n mainly specify that is taking the leave for a week after the schools diwali vaccation is over ,the counsellar may ask or not but if ask than it can show a proper work done for applying visa.if u have 2 than tell we have 4 but right now we r planning to take 2 so they will think that u will come back for another 2 ,n if they ask who will take care for those 2 than say we r in joint family so my inlaws will take care,if before u have not travelled to any abroad countrey than n if he ask why US 1st u want to go than say kids want to see disney world n i too wish to take the kids to 1st to the worlds most advance country.make a covering letter on ur bussiness letter head ,stating the subject as issuance of tourist visa n than i the letter mention where u will go in tour n request to issue the visa, again the counseller amy ask or not for the covering letter but good to keep it ready.very important thing ,never say that u have realtive there may be it will make him think that whole family is going on any ones sponser so may be will not comeback, whether we r applying with a clear heart that we r not going to stay permanently but the officer may think.n i hope u understood that if u have 2 than to say 4 ,keep ready the names n tell the other 2 the names so no miss answerr should be given that 1 say this n other say different.but i again repeat say 4 if u have 2.hope u understand what i mean to say.enter with a broad n decent smile n be confident n speak n u will win definatly.many time sponser letters r also not weven seen allso,if they see they whole family is applying directly reject.

1 more very imp thing if the full family is applying they may say we will give visa to parents but not children than decied that will u do ,n will u`ll except the visa for only 2,i sugest that to get a rejection stamp on all the 4 passport, its better to take visa who r offered for it.
wish u all the best for the application for tourist visa.
bye.

My parents went to mumbai consulate for Visitor Visa
Lot of questions were asked regarding the children, why you want to visit US and why that long, what does my father do and about his background. Finally they asked his income figure, my father gave a figure and somehow they didnt get convinced. He said you are worng and refused a visa. I request all the parents to be absolutely prepared and correct with figures. My father was not wrong but somehow they refused. They all give this by chance.
Anyways, Good luck to all aspiring parents and hope my parents too get one soon.
Can anybody help me with a travel agent in Mumbai or Chennai who does the Visa work
Thankyou

Parents Got Visa in Chennai
Parents Got Visa in Chennai

My parents originally had applied thro' drop box, but were called in person, for personal interview. They'd been to the consulate June 29th'04.Below are the questions which were asked to my dad.

Who is sponsoring.
How many children do u have
What were you doing before you retired
How long do u want to visit US.

Then they were asked to pay the Visa fees. Thanks to all who posted their feedback. My 10 cents is that, please make sure you specify, abt your siblings in the application leter from parents to consulate, and from the sponsor to the consulate.

The cons. officer, just took my husband's invitation letter and our marriage registration certificate.

Good Luck to everybody who is applying for the Visa. You go through a lot of mental tension, but once its done, its a big relief. Please make sure you lineup documents, and have interview session with your parents to prepare them.

rgds,
pdp
