Parents got reject 2nd time in Mumbai
My parents got rejected 2nd time in Mumbai today. They had applied a year ago and now reapplied. We got all the papers ready.
The officer asked them very less questions:
1. How many kids do you have?
Ans: 2
2. Where are they?
Ans: Both in USA.
3. How much do you earn (to my dad)?
Ans: __ lakhs
4. Show me papers?
Ans: He was trying to get the papers out and it is obvoius that a person woudl take a minute to remove it. While he was removing the papers the officers seem to be very impatient and stressed them a number of times saying. 'Quick Quick'. Even before my dad could hand over the papers to them they rejected the Visa.
IMP: Also they were asking him for some #16 form which is for people who are working for a company but my dad has a business of his own. So he tried to explain that I have a business and so I have #20.

We are very confused and now sure if we should apply again soon.
I have a couple of qs:
1. Should they reapply next month?
2. Should they reapply in Mumbai or somewhere else?
3. Also what other papers are needed - SENATORS LETTER?
4. Can someone advise how to go about getting a Senators letter and the time for its process.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Nanny.

My parents got Visa, Yahoo
Hello everyone,
My parents got visa at Calcutta consulate. They come under Mumbai jurisdiction but when we were booking appointments for them, we were getiing the dates for October. So we took a chance and got appointment at Calcutta.
I had called Calcutta consulate twice and first time I talked to an American lady, she had said that they can come to Calcutta, no problem.
Next time, I called, I talked to an Indian guy. He seemed friendly but said they should goto Bombay. Then he was kind of chatting with me about overall visa situation etc and I confirmned with him that their going to Calcutta will not be reason of rejection. He said yes as long as they can show reason for travel/travel plan and reasons to come back, they will get the visa.

I had sent the documentation as per immihelp site for both me and my husband. From the brief talk, I have had with folks in India, they asked questions about my education, job etc. Will post more details later. I don't know how long their visa is for.

This is a great relief as I am expecting in Sep and would like my parents to be here soon. Now I feel much more relaxed. Good luck to all you guys!!

Parent got visa from Delhi!!
Hi There,
My parent got visitors visa in Delhi.
Officer was really very nice and co-operative. He did not do much cross questioning.
Quest ions asked:
How many children you have.
What does your daughter do?
What does your son in law do?
Where is your son?
My brother is also in US.
So they saw his passport, my passport, my husband's passport, green card and that's it.

He asked my dad, why your daughter's and your last name is not same?

there is some typo error,
my dad wanted to show him the papers, he said, thats fine, I dont need the papers. and then he asked my Mom, what do you do?

My mom replied

It was so simple..
he asked to pay the fee

Many thanks to everybody!!! This site was very helpful in preparing documents, arranging them , and getting prepared of the interview.
Thanks again.

10 year visa approved.
Hi All, Like to thank this site. I had my interview yesterday at Mumbai. I got a 10 year multiple entry visa. I had absolutely no hope of getting it. I'm only 21 and still studying. Reading what many said on the site, being young and never having travelled before, I really really had no hope of getting it. When the interviewer said I got it, I thought maybe 3 months or 6 months. Today I recieved the passport with the Visa stamped in it. IT'S FOR 10 YEARS!! So please, don't lose hope and even if you are young, try. It doesn't matter. My sister is 23 and she tried last week and got 10 years too. So for all who have lost hope out there, don't. They didn't even ask to look at my papers and the entire experience was very pleasant. Hope everyone has as good a fortune as I ended up having yesterday.

Parents got VISA
Thanks to the posts on this forum and all the information available on this wonderful site. I prepared all the documents as listed and my parents got the visitor visa today.

My situation:
Myself - H1B, Wife - H1B, Sister - H4, Brother-in-law - H1B. No other siblings. Father retired, Mother - homemaker.

Main questions:
Q: Who is inviting you to USA?
A: My son. He is working there.
Q: When did he go to USA?
A: 1999
Q: Do you have a copy of his passport?
A: Yes and they gave a copy of my passport.
Q: Do you have any more kids?
A: Yes, we have a daughter. She is married and her husband is posted in USA. She is on H4 visa.
Q: Do you have a copy of her passport?
A: Yes and they cave the copy.

Consulate officer spent some time looking on the passport copies and commented that we go to India very frequently. My mom says that we are very good kids and go meet them every year or even more at times.

Q: To my father: What do you do?
A: I am retired.
Q: When and where did you retire from?
A: Father: I retired in 2001, and I retired as (Designation) from (company).
Q: Do you have pention?
A: Yes

Consulate officer: To my mom: If your kids are in USA why dont you go and live ther with them?
Mom: We just want to go there and visit them. We want to see all the places our kids talk about and we want to see their places of work and stay. We are very curious about the life style their.
Consulate officer: You should just stay there!!
Mom: No we don't want to stay there. We have spent our whole lives here, we have relatives, friends, property etc. We are more comfartable here. Moreover we do not be dependentant on our children.
Q: What relatives do you have here?
A: Brothers, Sisters etc etc.

Consulate officer: Please go to TTS visas and deposit money.
Father: Is the visa issued?
A: Yes, you will get it through courier.
Father: Thank you
Mother: Thank you very much and God bless you.
Consulate officer: Smiling - Have a nice day.

That's it folks. Let me know if you have any questions. I am indebted to this site for all the advice. Keep up the good work. I don't know the visa duration etc. I will post again once I have that info. Please help me deciding between Tata/AIG and Inbound for visitor medical insurance. Also please let me know if we can do something that they get 6Mo stay. They would come to SFO next month.

Hi,
Recently my parents went to the US Consulate in Chennai.

At the first counter they collected only the sponsorship papers. They did not take the letter which I addressed to the Consular and the invition letter addressing to my parents. their appointment time was 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM.

They were directed to a counter around 9:15 AM.
The counsular(around 40 years male) asked the following questions
1. Where is your son in USA?(ANS.CA)
2. How many children do you have?( ANS.2)
3. What is your other son doing in India?(ANS.working)
4. Do you have a house here in India(ANS.Yes, and I have the documents)
The counsular said thats ok and he asked my DAD and MOM to give their finger prints.

All questions were asked to my DAD.

Try to be calm and answer confidently. And if possible ask your parents to go through what they have been entered in the I-156 and scan through all the documents they are submitting.

These are the documents I have sent -
1.Affidavit of Support form(Form I-134).
2.Employement verification letter
3. Photocopy of Company ID .
3.Letter to the Consulate requesting them to grant the visitor visa for parents.
4.A personal letter inviting parents to visit USA.
5.Copies of recent pay stubs( 3 pay periods).
6. Verification letter on checking & Savings account details of the candidate from the Bank
7. Last theree Monthly Statements from the Bank
8. Income tax returns + W2s for the last three years(2001,2002,2003).
9. Photocopy of the birth certificate of the candidate.
10. Photocopy of all pages (including blank pages) of Candidate’s passport.
11. Photocopy of Permanent Resident Card

got the visa(tourist)
Thanks a lot to this site.
I prepared the documents as per this site and my parents got 10 year multiple entry visa a couple of days back From Chennai.
I wanted to reserve an interview for them in Kannada. But as there was no appointment available I booked English.(My father can speak a little toota-phoota english).
They went to the Chennai a day in advance and stayed at The New Woodlands(Rs1300 for 3 people per night). They went to the consulate 15 minutes prior to the interview and they had to be in a queue for about 30 min.
First at the entry(I guess the security) check for the interview confirmation printout and applications.Inside they took the TTS Rs400 DD first and then they took the 2nd DD for Rs4600 and gave them a receipt for that and also a token. They were made to sit and token was called out later. My mom asked for Kannada Translator immediately and they provided one.The following quesitons asked to my mother(my father is little hard of hearing)
Q: Who is this ppppppppp(me) in USA?
A: Our Son
Q: How many kids do you have?
A: Three
Q: Anybody in Bangalore?
A: Yes elder son.
Q(To my father): Are you ritered?(He couldn't hear her so my mom answered the question)
A: Yes.
They said "OK" and then they submitted the Rs2300 DD.
visa stamped Passports came a day later.
Now starts the headache of Health insurance and the Air ticket and search for a person to piggy-back them with ;-)
