B2 visa Approved for Parents - Chennai Consulate
Hi all,

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for sharing their visa interview experience in this forum. This had highly helped us to train our parents on few important stuffs that they need to follow during the interview.

My Dad & Mom had the OFC scheduled on March 22nd and the visa interview on March 26th at the Chennai consulate. Following were the questions asked to them by the VO during the interview:

1. VO: Who is residing in US?
Dad: My Elder daughter( We specifically told our parents to mention elder daughter so that VO could know that my parents had younger son/daughter which would have a strong reason for them to return to India).
2. VO: How many kids you have?
Dad: 2 daughter and 1 son, Elder one in US and rest both in Chennai.
3. VO: Where does your daughter work?
    Dad: Answered the company name.
4. VO: How long are you planning to be in US?
      Dad: 4 to 5 months.
5. VO; Where do you work?
     Dad: Iam doing Business.
6. VO: What do you do?
    Mom: Housewife.
VO: Thanks. You can leave. Your visa is approved.

Good luck everyone with your(parent's ) interview.

Iam glad that I would have my parents for this summer in US ...........

Thanks to the almighty for all the wonders HE does !!!!

Visitor visa extension
Hi,

Both my parents are here with me on B-2 visa came for 6 months but i m thinking of applying for extension of stay only for my mother as we needed her due to some serious health issue to my 4 year old son. so i m thinking what reason should i mention in the cover letter for her extension, do i mention the commonly mentioned reason which is "not able to see all the places so need more time to visit those places" or the real reason we wanted her to stay? i can get a letter from hospital to submit with the application. does anybody has does this with a different reason other then "sight seeing" and were able to get extension?

Thanks really appreciate your suggestions and advice's.

B2 Visa rejected under 214b
Hello,

I currently doing my masters and my family wanted to attend my graduation. Unfortunately, they got rejected under 214b. I really founfd this site helpful.

My mother reapplied for the visa. She works as a teacher and she has vacation during the visiting dates. The duration of stay has been mentioned as 3 weeks.

The interview is in a couple of weeks and I really hope nothing goes wrong. Under 214b rejection status, 1. can change of circumstances be that only she is applying?

2. Also, if the consular questions what went wrong in the previous interview, can she answer, we wanted to attend the ceremony as a family but couldn't show strong ties.

My brother is 13 years old so we thought at least my mom can visit me.
3. How can she answer what changes did you make from the previous interview? Please help me with your valuable suggestions, any opinion can be helpful for the coming interview.

Thank you.

B2 visa biometrics not allowed.
Hi,
My parents had Biometrics appointment today for B2 Visa of USA. My father was not allowed inside for biometrics as the passport number in Appointment Confirmation was wrong (My Passort number was taken from the profile while booking appointment for his B2 visa). I used same account which I had created for my Visa application appointment booking, so Passport number defaulted as mine in application confirmation page but the visa fee is paid to Embassy with his application number and got proper barcode with his application number. Also DS-160 has his correct Passport number and application number.
The only problem was wrong passport number in the appointment confirmation which we did not notice till he went to interview. He tried requesting at office showing DS_160 confirmation page, his original passport, visa fee recipt and other documents but he was not allowed for biometrics but with same application they allowed my mother to get biometrics as we booked their appointment together.(my mothers name and passport number was not shown appointment confirmation page as appointment was booked with my father's name yet she is allowed as they checked only her DS-160 confirmation page and passport). Should wait and see what happens to her consular interview tomorrow.
now
1. what should I do with my father's visa application?
2. Is my father's visa application considered rejected?
3. Should I pay the visa fee again to book an appointment for my father again?
4. In the website my father's consular appointment is marked cancelled but no option to reschedule but there is option to schedule new appointment.
5. If i try to book new appointment for my father it is still taking my passport number in appointment details and its not possible to edit anywhere while booking appointment on website.
6. If I have to reapply for my father's B2 visa after how many days its best to apply ?
7. Should i fill DS_160 again to book appointment again ?
8. what should he fill for the question Have you ever been rejected with B2 visa in his next application or interview?

Please clarify above things if anyone has any experience in this as soon as possible. Many Thanks in advance.
Siya

Need help in clearing B2 visa URGENTLY
Hi All,

My name is Sunil age 21 from Hyderabad. I want to share my past experience on B2 visa rejection and I really need some advice to crack it finally. Below I’ve written my point to point conversion with the consulor.

1st experience: 7th Feb,2018. 9.30 AM

VO: goodmorning sir,how are you
Me: goodmorning, I’m fine, how are you?

VO: I’m fine, thanks, so why are going to USA?
Me: I’m going for tourism and explore places like Los angeles and Miami.

VO: What do you do here?
Me: I’m working as a Team Lead at (company name) from past 2 years.

VO: what’s your salary?
Me: 35k per month.

VO: Whos sponsoring for your trip? You or your dad?
Me: I’m sponsoring myself.

VO: How long are you gonna stay there?
Me: I’ve planned for 2 weeks, 1 week in Los angeles and 1 week in Miami.

VO: Are you married?
Me: Not yet

VO: Have you ever been to any other country?
Me: No

VO: I’m sorry sir, we cannot provide you the visa.
Me: may i know the reason.

VO: sorry sir, you do not have enough experience.
Me: thanks.

Handed me a 214(b) . After the first rejection, I thought my insufficient travel experience was the reason of rejection. So; I’ve changed my reason for visiting to provide a valid reason to go over there.

2nd experience: 14th Feb,2018. 8.30 AM

VO: goodmorning sir
Me: goodmorning sir, how are you?

VO: I’m fine, what is the purpose of your visiting?
Me: I’m going to present my thesis on (project name) at the youth fest in miami.

VO: What do you do here?
Me: I work at HCL technologies and also continue my research work at the weekends.

VO: whats your designation?
Me: I’m working as a Team Lead.

VO: how long have you been working there?
Me: it has been 2 years.

VO: whats your salary?
Me: my annual package is 6L, he asked me again (may be not clear at the first place), I said it’s 35k per month after all deductions.

VO: whos sponsoring your trip?
Me: I’m sponsoring myself.

VO: so,you’re going on behalf of your research institute or company?
Me: I’m going to represent my research institute.

VO: Are you married sir?
Me: not yet, but I’m planning to get soon.

VO: have you ever been to any other country?
Me: No

VO: What is your thesis about?
Me: I was quite stammering in between while explaining this to him (answered about my project).

VO: I’m sorry sir, I cannot provide you the visa, this will explain you all( gave me a 214(b))
Me: But whats the reason for rejection.

VO: I’m sorry sir but i cannot believe you.
Me: but you can check my thesis documents.

Handed me a 214(b) again and after this rejection, it got me into a gruesome depression. I don’t understand where I’m going wrong and not able to clear it. I’ve scheduled my last and final interview on 29th March,2018 and this time I’ve got an invitation letter from a close family friend who’s a USA citizen by naturalization and the age gap between me and him is approx 30. I hope this invitation could strengthen up my case a notch and help me get through it. I’ve the certificate and driving license as an evident to show.

Please I need your opinion guys,it matters to me a lot and PLEASE PLEASE give your best advice to crack it. I need to know what exactly to speak out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Email : [email protected]

Thanks,
Sunil

Parents B2 Visa Approved - Chennai Consulate
Profile: Both parents retired from Govt service
2 children - I am in the US on NIV for past 1.5 years, my sibling in UK
Have own property (house)

What is the purpose of Visit?
Tourism - mentioned few cities in East Coast

Which city are you going to?
They said they will land in my place and tour other cities from here

How long do you plan to stay?
3 months. My father proactively mentioned that they need to return to India by June 2018 as he had his parents' ceremony that he wanted to do with brothers and had a few spiritual trips lined up in India in August with his spiritual volunteers group

Which company is your son working in US?
Answered

How long?
Answered

Do you have grandchildren?
Answered

VO: Your Visa is approved

They did not ask for a single document except passport.

Tips:
1. Take time and fill DS160 correctly, State the truth. Stick to what is mentioned in DS160
2. Primary purpose should be tourism only, visiting family is secondary only. They should know 4-5 tourist spot names
3. Prepare a strong personal reason for your return
4. Retired people seem to have an advantage. Singles or young individuals are at high risk of rejection
5. Visa officer is trained to suspect everyone who is applying for B2 has an intent to stay back in the US and not return to the home country. So the entire responsibility lies on the candidate to convince in the few minutes they get with the VO. This is purely subjective
6. Dont overcoach parents, but train them. Clearly explain them the process, do a couple of mocks. Ask them to be as natural as possible
7. Documents hold meager value, but they have to be kept handy if asked for
8. You cannot sponsor B2 visa, you can only pay for the trip
9. Your status matters at times. If you are 6 years maxed out and on approved I-140, and your parents are applying, their approval is at risk. However if you havent maxed out, your status wont impact their visa
