India Visa Processing Times
Please note that the exact processing time for an India visa varies all the time and the following timings are approximate and are subject to change at any time. Processing time can not be guaranteed. Nonrefundable tickets or reservations should not be purchased until all visas and passports are secured and in your possession.

Due to the high travel volume for the holiday season, processing times for some Consulates such as Houston are at a minimum of three weeks.

U.S. citizens born in the U.S.
  • Application in Person:
Same day visa application is possible. You must select an appointment time which can be selected at the end of the online application form. You must submit the application between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM for consideration of the same day visa.

The payment must be made with cash or money order. If the visa is granted, pick hours for the same day applications are between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

There is no guarantee that visas will be issued on the same day.

If the application is received after 11:00 AM, the visa will be issued the following working day for non-reference cases.

  • Application by Mail:
Applications sent by mail take approximately 7-9 working/business days to process from the time of receipt. This time schedule does not apply to services where prior approval is required from authorities in India, other Indian embassies, or for non-U.S. citizens.

For Indian Nationals
Same day visa processing is not available to former Indian nationals. As there is a delay in processing time, they should allow for extra time.

Pakistan nationals and persons of Pakistani Origin
Visa processing takes a minimum of 6 weeks. It can take longer as the matter is examined by the concerned authorities in India. The Embassy/Consulate will promptly convey the decision on their application to the applicant as soon as it is received from New Delhi. You are requested to be patient and not make enquiries in this regard by phone, email, personal visit, fax or letters, which, due to constraints, Travisa will not be able to respond to. You may rest assured that they will pursue your case.

Sri Lanka nationals and persons of Sri Lankan Origin
Visa processing for these persons takes time. The Embassy/Consulate will promptly convey the decision. Meanwhile, you should not make any inquiries as they will not be answered.

Citizens of Czech Republic and Slovak Republic
Processing time for citizens of Czech Republic and Slovak Republic is a minimum of 21 working days.

Non-U.S. citizens and Naturalized U.S. citizens
U.S. citizens who require a reference and all non-U.S. citizens have a minimum processing time of one to two weeks and it may take even longer in some cases.
