14th Jan 2019: Attended visa interview. Just two basic questions. Visa officer said that my Visa has been Approved and I will get my passport in 3-5 business days.
18th Jan 2019 : Visa Status Check website still shows "Administrative Processing".
Update:
22nd Jan 2019: Visa Status Check website showed "Issued". Got email late evening to collect the passport.
23rd Jan 2019: Collected passport with new H1-B extension stamp

Went for the visa interview on Dec 13 and got a DS 5535 word document and a 221g with the passport. Submitted the questionnaire the same day. It's been more than a month. No status change or response from the consulate.
How long does this take? I was told my visa is approved and was still given a 221g with the returned passport.

Chennai Consulate; second stamping on H1B. This is my second employer
Dec 19: bio metrics
Dec 20: Consular appointment.
The interview went for more than 30 minutes. All basic questions and the officer was going away every time he asked for a new document (I think he was scanning them or consulting with someone else).
At the end of the interview, he only retained the client letter. Wrote the case number and gave me back passport along with 221g blue slip.
Jan 7: Client company immigration department received an email with questionnaire and my client manager was notified.
Jan 8: Client manager and Immigration department completed the questionnaire. Sent it back to the State department (Note that it is not directly from the consulate. It from consulate to respective State department to the client)
Jan 14: received an email from Chennai consulate to submit my passport. Submitted the same day.Note: the case status and last updated date hasn't been changed.
Waiting now for passport!

Received email to submit passport on 1/9.
Case updated :1/11-still in administrative processing
Case updated again on 1/17: still says administrative processing.
1/22: Visa Issued
Is there anyone else in similar situation. I was told that when they email to submit the passport, it is supposed to be a good news. However, I have not received any email to pick up my passport. Also my case still says administrative processing. Please share if you have similar experience. In desperate need of some kind of hope!

15 Jan : Passport submitted in Dropbox.
17 Jan : Received green slip to come for Interview.
22 Jan : Interview given and the consular said that the visa will reviewed.
Currently, the status is administrative processing.
I was asked nothing. He just took my passport.
Any idea what does it mean? I haven't been given any slip yet. The only slip that i received from the dropbox was green in color and to come for interview.

On Dec 4th I had H-1B visa extension stamping interview. The visa extension is for same employer and client I had 3 years back. Consular officer asked very basic questions. What is your job profile? Who is your client? Since when I'm working. Are you with same client and employer since start. Salary? Spouse status? No documents asked to show. At the end he said your visa is approved and took my passport
On Dec 7th I was asked to pickup my passport. When I picked up my passport there was no stamp on the passport, instead there was a 221(g) slip asking for docs from my employer in email. Status changed to Admin Processing
On Dec 21st docs were submitted by employer. After that no update from consulate for more than 3 weeks
On Jan 14th got email from consulate asking to submit passport
On Jan 15th passport submitted
On Jan 16th last update date changed to Jan 16th but status still showing Admin Processing
On Jan 18th visa status changed to Issued, later in the day passport ready

5th year PhD student. F1 visa renewal. Submitted documents in Dropbox on 9th November. Got an email to collect passport on 16th November. In that, there was a blue 221g slip asking me to come to consulate for interview. Went for interview on 19th. VO gave me a blue 221g slip and said you'll get an email asking for more information. Your case is under administrative processing. Got an email later that day with a word document similar to the DS 5535 questionnaire. Responded on 19th itself and no updates since then.. anyone knows how long it would take?
18th Jan: Been 60 days since I submitted the document. No update yet :(
