On Dec 4th I had H-1B visa extension stamping interview. The visa extension is for same employer and client I had 3 years back. Consular officer asked very basic questions. What is your job profile? Who is your client? Since when I'm working. Are you with same client and employer since start. Salary? Spouse status? No documents asked to show. At the end he said your visa is approved and took my passport
On Dec 7th I was asked to pickup my passport. When I picked up my passport there was no stamp on the passport, instead there was a 221(g) slip asking for docs from my employer in email. Status changed to Admin Processing
On Dec 21st docs were submitted by employer. After that no update from consulate for more than 3 weeks
On Jan 14th got email from consulate asking to submit passport
On Jan 15th passport submitted
On Jan 16th last update date changed to Jan 16th but status still showing Admin Processing
On Jan 18th visa status changed to Issued, later in the day passport ready

5th year PhD student. F1 visa renewal. Submitted documents in Dropbox on 9th November. Got an email to collect passport on 16th November. In that, there was a blue 221g slip asking me to come to consulate for interview. Went for interview on 19th. VO gave me a blue 221g slip and said you'll get an email asking for more information. Your case is under administrative processing. Got an email later that day with a word document similar to the DS 5535 questionnaire. Responded on 19th itself and no updates since then.. anyone knows how long it would take?
18th Jan: Been 60 days since I submitted the document. No update yet :(

Dec 13, 2018 - Visa interview. Got the 221 (g) blue slip and passport was returned back. Documents asked were research, publications, funding, countries traveled in the past 10 years etc.
Dec 13, 2018 - Submitted documents, automated response received, status updated to administrative processing.
Jan 8, 2019 - No updates!
Jan 15, 2019- Asked to submit my passport. CEAC still shows ‘Administrative processing’.
Jan 18, 2019- Status changed to 'issued', passport picked up.

Second H1b Drop box - Documents submitted on Dec 11 - 2018. Was issued a blue slip, and asked for in person interview along with documents. Attended the interview on Dec 28th, and VO said that my visa is approved. But, my visa status continues to be in "Administrative Processing" and passport status as "your passport is picked up". No updates after that. Already changed the travel back once. Any idea whats going on?

I attended interview on Sept 25, 2018. VO said visa is approved and took my passport. After 4 days, I received passport back with 221g green slip asking to submit Form 535 sent via email. I submitted the form on Sept 29, 2018. Since then the visa is in Admin processing and when sent email to ask status, I get response that there is no time frame when the admin processing will be completed.

Hi,
Transition from F1 to H1B. I work with a university (so have a academic H1B). Was put in admin processing due to area of work (most probably).
After the interview, i am given a white slip and had to summit all the required documents ( excluding the DS-555 something ) .
My case was created on 4th December 2018.
There was no status update till 14th Jan.
14th Jan - Case Updated
I checked later :
14th Jan - Issued.
The process for me took somewhere between 4-5 weeks. Which is quite standard. I was afraid that due to the shutdown things may be delayed a little, however that did not seem to be the case for me as the consulate office had informed me during the interview that the admin processing takes somewhere between 6-8 weeks.
My passport was collected at the time of the interview.
My employer did not get any verification emails.
For those you are waiting for their stamp, good luck and i am sure that it will be processed soon.

I work as a FTE for a reputed company in Bay Area. I was transitioning from F1 to H1 and during my interview I was told my officer my application holds were very common and it should be resolved in a week or two. However, it is almost 7 weeks now and the status has not changed since October 22nd, 2018. Has anyone else faced similar situation as mine?
Interview details:
1. Case created: 15th October (also happens to be my OFC appointment date)
2. 16th October: Visa interview. Just 3 questions
a. Salary? b. Are you married? c. Which university did you go to?
Collected my passport and issued a Blue slip was a Case number assuring nothing to worry about.
I am following up regularly and no one gives any more information apart from what we see in CEAC website.

Waited for nearly 90 days. But the visa finally got approved! To those who are in the same situation as mine. Please keep calm and wait. Just ensure your employer is fine.

Visa interview is very casual. This for my F1 to H1 conversion (got H1 approved this 2018 October).
VO: Good morning.
Me: Good Morning.
VO: Which company do you work for ?
Me: Told my employer name.
VO: Do you work at a client location/directly at your employer.
Me: I work at client location and xxx is my client. My client is well reputed and VO told he is aware of it.
VO: Are you married.
Me: Replied
VO: Where did you do your OPT ?
Me: At my employer, working at client location (I worked at same client even through out my OPT+Stem OPT extension too)
VO: He asked my client letter, employment verification letter, LCA, Recent I-94. He went inside and came back after 20 minutes. He handed me a yellow slip and asked to wait. I was called back by VO after 20 mins and told that this time my visa cannot be approved and requires additional processing and handed me a 221G blue slip.
On Dec 14th client manager received to confirm that I am working at client location and he replied on Dec 21st.
