Made a couple mistakes at the time of submitting documents for Dropbox - wrong date of birth in DS 160 and older passports not turned in. Thought this is what led to 221g. Was asked to come in for an interview, no documents asked for. At the interview, no consequential questions asked:
* Where did I go to school in the US?
* Did I do an OPT afterwards?
* Is that what converted into an H1B?
* Was I ever out of status?
Was told that they were going to verify my academic background in the US (F1 -> OPT -> H1B), and that it's normal and will take 1-2 weeks.
Order of events:
12/30 - Dropbox Bangalore
1/3 - Case created as per ceac tracker: Administrative processing
1/8 - Passport picked up at Bangalore VAC
1/9 - Interview at Chennai consulate; case status updated, still says Administrative Processing
1/21 - Case updated, still says Administrative Processing

Hello Experts and Experience holders & people who are frustrated at embassy,
I had my interview on 12/26/2019.
Consular asked basic questions about job. handed over 221 (g) blue slip. and asked to submitt 797, employer tax returns and internal project description. I worked as an electrical design consultant in MEP firm. I dont know why consular asked for internal description. anyhow submitted all the documents on 12/28/2019.
Received email to submited passport on 01/07/2020. since then waiting for the update.
It is a positive sign that they asked for your passport but how long they gonna keep the passport. what does that mean that they still have my passport. is there any thing I can do?
Considering its positive sign i booked the flights and now I feel it was a bad decision since i hv flight on 17 jan.
Passport status changed from delivered to the post to no status available on 01/16/2019.
Last case update changed to 01/17/2019.
Changed to Issued on 01/21/2019. yet to receive email

VO just asked few common questions and said visa is approved, but he said wait the petition dates are expired here and directed to other counter to get them updated and after updating them. I again went back to the VO. He seem surprised as they weren’t updating and he called someone from inside they both discussed. He handed over me 221g slip application will be reconsidered after AP is completed. He took a slip and wrote something on it (it’s not a case number it’s a empty paper) attached it my passport. Completely worried

Applied for j1 renewal, VO approved my visa and signed DS-2019. She kept my passport and told me to expect it back in 3-4 days. 2 days later I got an email that application needs further administrative processing under 221g. They requested to fill out a questionnaire ( which I did on the same day). No status update since then.
anyone with a similar experience. Its been 5 weeks already.

I work as an FTE for a tech company in San Francisco. I was surprised to get a yellow slip since all my previous stampings went smoothly.
12/19: dropbox
12/24: received passport with green slip (to attend interview at 10.30 on any day)
12/26: attended interview. interview was casual. not too many questions. handed me a yellow slip asking to submit W2s, tax returns, H1B petition and itinerary of services document.
01/03: submitted the docs a bit late since my company was off during the holidays
01/07: got an email from ustraveldocs asking me to submit passport.
01/09: ceac status updated to 9th Jan but still in AP.
01/21: ceac status updated to 21st Jan but still AP (hopefully my visa gets issued soon)
01/22: ceac status changed to Issued
Finally, the frustrating wait is over. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

hi , i came to united states on F1 . . I went for 1 st H1 visa stamping and got approved then at port of entry my visa got cancelled and I was sent back to India . i went to visa interview after that and got 221(g) green slip and vo ask for client letter and i gave her that and she told me if i may need to come for second interview . any suggestions would be helpful .
