EAD Renewal
Hi Everyone,

I am about to process my EAD renewal early (5 months before expiry) so just to confirm the following and your help is highly appreciated:

1. So do I only submit the EAD form (I-765 form) and attach a copy of my current EAD document?

2. Do I submit this via mail to USCIS Chicago Lockbox or the NBC (National Benefits Center)?

3. Any other requirements needed for submission?

Thanks all!

EAD card returned back to USCIS, Took 6 months in total to get it back and HOW ?
My OPT Stem Extension case is approved and the USCIS mailed my card to me on April 3, 2018. The card returned back to USCIS on May 02, 2018 due to some postal issues (in spite of the fact that my address was right and I had my name labelled on my mail box) . My first call to USCIS was on June 04, 2018 and I requested to place a service request to resend my card back to me. They said it should take up to 30 days.

Nothing happened in 30days so I called them back again in July and in August, September, October.
This lady I talked to in October said it usually takes 5-6 months to re-mail a card from the date It was first requested. So, she said it should typically arrive in December as my first request was placed in June.

I told her that I had travel plans to my country and she says that I don’t need my EAD to travel :/ (I know it is risky to do that). But, she advised me to take an Infopass appointment at the local USCIS field office.

I did take an Infopass appointment but the officer there clearly told me on my face that there is nothing she or anyone at the field office could do regarding this case. (SO DON’T TAKE AN INFOPASS APPOINTMENT TO SEEK HELP REGARDING CASES LIKE THIS)

I tried contacting my local congressmen (I read online that for few candidates it worked out well). But no luck in my case.

Nov 11, 2018: Called USCIS again and heard nothing new.

Later, I read somewhere online about the Ombudsman’s office and I went to their website, filled a form and submitted it. I put in every little detail about all of my calls with USCIS. https://cisomb.dhs.gov/oca/form7001.aspx
Nov 13, 2018 : Submitted a form to the Ombudsman’s office
Nov 14, 2018 : Got a response back from the Ombudsman’s office that they have contacted USCIS regarding my case and waiting to hear back from them.
Nov 15, 2018 : Got an email from Ombudsman’s office that USCIS mailed my card.
Nov 16, 2018: Got an email confirmation from USCIS that my card was mailed on Nov 15, 2018.
Nov 16, 2018: USPS attempted a delivery and left a note on my door. (One Day delivery – WOW!! I thought it would take 3-5 business days.)
Nov 17, 2018: I finally got my EAD card.

All Thanks to the Ombudsman’s office !!

So, I personally would recommend calling USCIS to put up a service request, wait for a month or two, call them back again and if there is no update don’t wait further and contact the Ombudsman’s office. I wish I knew about them earlier.

EAD/AP validity for re-entry in US
Can somebody please tell me how long does the EAD/AP card needs to be valid for re-entry into the USA?

My EAD/AP combo card expires on March 12, 2019. I have not yet applied for the renewal. I am travelling out of USA from December 10 to December 26 and will re-enter on Dec 26, 2018. Do I need to have a 6 month validity of the EAD/AP card to re-enter from the date of re-entry (like for example in the case of visas, where you need a visa with atleast 6 month validity to enter USA?)

I hope I made myself clear. I will appreciate any help. Thanks.

Social Security
Hey folks! I applied for social security after receiving the EAD. Anyone knows how much time it takes to get the SSN card after applying for it? And is there any way to check its status? Thanks!!

My EAD Experience
New York based application - L1a -> Green card (C-09) - National Benefits Centre

06/22 - sent in 130, 131, 485, 765
06/25 - debited, and listed as the receipt date on the notice
07/23 - biometrics appointment

— queue crickets for two months —

09/27 - got an official job offer on a condition that I got my EAD on hand by 10/29 (*gulp*). Called USCIS to expedite - the agent submitted our request without adding that I got a pending job offer. Panicked and faxed in a note to explain that I got an active job offer
09/28 - got an email confirming that our request to expedite EAD was received
10/02 - googled and found my senator (Schumer). Submitted web form and faxed in all information available via Fax (what's up with the obsession with fax in this day and age with all immigration-related stuff btw?). Heard nothing from his office despite calling them every few days.
10/22 - googled and found my local congressman (Jerrold Nadler). Submitted webform and delivered the documents in person. Same day filed a case with the USCIS ombudsman as well via googling them and filled in a web form - that was surprising easy and no faxing required (hallelujah).
10/23 - got an email from the ombudsman office that they received my case and shared that with management. Same day got a call from Jerrold Nadler's office that the card is in production.
10/27 - card in hand!

Learning:

1. Don’t beat yourself up in the process - I second-guessed myself all the time in terms of whether or not I left it too late to apply. Or did enough. Life happens. Sometimes you can only do your best. Be gentle on yourself.
2. Be proactive - this forum really helped me so much. I don’t know how much help it was to expedite the card via USCIS because they were quite non-chalant about it. Agents on the phone were helpful and picked up our call super almost instantly, but their hands were tied with a huge backlogs of requests. I had a feeling that contacting my local congressman and the Ombudsman office really helped. I wish I did that sooner given that the Senator never got back to me even though I kept calling his office for follow-up. And don’t be afraid to reach out to more than source of support. E.g. I only got a letter from Schumer’s office days after I got my EAD so that wasn’t as helpful as the other congressmen or the ombudsman office.
3. Hang in there!! Thank you everyone for leaving encouraging messages because they meant a lot in the darkest times (ain’t I the drama queen) but that’s true. I woke up every day to read this thread.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Photo requirements not matched
Hello Guys,

I have applied for my EAD extension on June 8th and I am still waiting for the response. I have filed the service request. I was discussing my documents that I sent to USCIS with my friend and got to know that I have sent the indian passport size photo(2.5X2). Can anyone suggest what should I do now? Will I get RFE or DENIAL? What can I do in case if I got the DENIAL. Also, I have my flight tickets to India on 2nd dec. Anyone who has faced this situation?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks
