H1B Received (No 221g but AP)
Hi,

Mumbai Consulate.
Dec 4 - Interview

Interview was quick.
Questions asked - Where do you work, Highest degree, Which univ, Job position, Explain job role, Annual Salary.
VO said this is approved.

Since Dec 4 it was showing Administrative Processing. I was one of those 15-20% affected due to technical issues lately.

Dec 11 - Updated as - Case Last Updated Dec 11 but still in AP

Dec 13 Morning - Updated to Issued
PP status still with embassy

Dec 13 Evening - PP status - Received from consular section and being prepared for delivery

Dec 14 Morning - Received SMS with BlueDart tracking number. Tracking showed that it was actually shipped on Dec 13 evening.

Dec 15 Morning - Received passport with visa stamped.

It took exact 10 business days or 12 calendar days to receive this.

Guys do not freak out if it is showing Administrative Processing without 221g.
This is just due to recent technical issues.
You will get it within 2 weeks in most cases. Each case is different in terms of timeline.

Thanks

VISA Experince - HYD Consulate
i want to share my experience.......

I had a VISA dropbox appointment on DEC 11 2017 attended and submitted all my required documents. I got a call from US consulate on 14 DEC 2017 to submit latest Biometrics. I'm with same Employer and Client from my H1B stamped first time( Aug 2015).

and my Husband attends dropbox on DEC 11 2017 and DEC 14 2017 his VISA got approved. He had attended first-time H1B interview on Dec 2016

this is what my analysis...
Scenario 1: Same Client and employer and if your H1B stamped recently your VISA will be issued directly.
Scenario 2: Same Client and employer and if your H1B stamped beyond 2015. US consulate will ask your Biometrics

Scenario 3: if your employer or client changed they may schedule an interview.

H1B DropBox -> Called for Interview -> Visa approved -> Admin Processing
H1B Dropbox at Hyderabad consulate. Had change of employers.

Timeline
20th Nov’17 - Monday: Submitted documents at Hyderabad VAC

23rd Nov - Thursday: Thanksgiving Holiday, consulate closed

24th Nov - Friday: Got call from VAC saying VO requested me come for finger print and interview. Earliest date that is available is Dec 6th 10:00 AM. I asked if know the reason, they replied no. After confirming my email, they sent me the same details over email.

27th Nov - Monday: Emailed [email protected] if they can give me an interview earlier date. They replied no. I called VAC earlier in the month to check if Hyderabad consulate is open during the week of 27th, they replied saying consulate will be closed for few days during the week due to construction. Probably that is why they couldn’t move the date.

6th Dec – Wednesday: Appeared for visa interview at Hyderabad consulate. VO asked general questions, Are you full time? Salary? Highest level of education? After that, VO replied saying, your visa is approved, but we need 2 weeks to do additional administrative processing. I asked if they need any documents and what is the reason for 2 weeks delay. VO replied that they don’t need any documents from my side and they can’t tell the reason for delay, its just processing on their side. I asked if its definitive time of 2 weeks. VO replied, typically it should be less than 2 weeks.

11th Dec - Monday: Called VAC to check status. They said, it’s in administrative processing and since I didn’t receive any letter from VO, it should be done in 10 working days. If not, they asked me to email them and they would forward it to concerned team.

Till 12th Dec: Status on ceac.state.gov: Administrative Processing, Last case update: Dec 6th

13th Dec - Wednesday: Last case updated changed to Dec 13th

14th Dec’17 - Thursday: Visa issued.

Holidays + interview scheduling delays + admin processing led to a 25-day visa processing time.

Thanks to the community for sharing their experiences. It helped me relieve some stress.

Hi guys,

I appeared for my 1st H1b stamping interview on 21st Nov
I am a doctor and it was change of status from J1 research to H1

Interview was very brief and VO told me my visa is approved, I was not given any slip.
She kept my passport and petition and told me she needs to check something which which might take a week. I told her my flight back is on 1st December and she told it should be fine
Howeever, until today visa is in adminstrative processing

Case created: 20 Nov
Interview: 21 Nov
Case last updated: 21 Nov (AP)

I have been calling us travel docs people everyday, but its useless.

Already cancelled my flight.
Not sure how long it will take

anyone in the same boat?

Administrative Processing
Here is my experience.

I had my along with my (H1) and my dependents (H4) visa interview at Mumbai on 24th Nov. Received email from USTraveldocs for collecting my dependents passport on 28th Nov. My status was still showing administrative processing on ceac and passport is still with US Consulate/Embassy. On 8th Dec around 2/2.30 pm the date got updated on ceac site but it still showed Administrative Processing but on USTraveldocs site the status was “There is no status update for the passport”. On 11th Dec in afternoon the status changed to Issued on ceac site and passport was available for pickup at Mumbai VAC.

Hope this helps.

Confusion about trip to India
I am a doctor on H1b visa with my wife on H4 visa and I am planning to visit India on 20 December 2017. But looking at the delays in visa stamping and the fact that I only have a 5-weeks vacation, I am going to cancel my trip to India. It is unfortunate for us that the administrative delays are happening right now. We were to give the interview at Mumbai consulate in the first week of January 2018.

Can anyone with stamping experience at Mumbai consulate guide me if it is really risky to travel to India right now or am I worrying unnecessarily?
