H1 stamping in chennai on Sep 7th
Hi,
I used to work for a large services company in India who sent me to NY on H1. I switched to a smaller consulting firm (100 odd people) based in Chicago, but continued to work at a client's location in NY. while transferring the H1 to the new company, an RFE was raised, but was later approved.

I worked in Employer - Vendor - Client Model. But the employer decided to project me as if I am working at the employer location for another clients project (in house). they provided all the necessary docs and a brief description of the project.

I carried all the comapny data, some timesheets, letter from client that my employer is doing the project in house etc.

The visa interview itself took only about 3 minutes -

VO: What will you be doing in the united states?
Me: explained basic software development duties.

VO: were you already on an H1 from another company?
Me : yes from xxx company

VO: so are you already working for your new employer?
Me: yes

VO: what is the client's name?
me: yyyyyy

VO: ok, everything looks in order, but seems like we havent got your fingerprints properly. you'll have to get them done again.
Me: do i have to go back to the other building?

VO: nope, you can just wait here.

He returned my passport and the docs. I waited till my number appeared and went to aother counter.
The lady asked who the client is. I told her. Then she said: Oh, I see that your interview is already done.

She took my fingerprints, took the passport, and said that I will be getting it in 4-5 days. And I did.

No docs asked other than I797A, passport, I129 and LCA. And obviously the DS160, VFS appointment letter and hdfc receipt.

All the best!!

221g Yellow Slip - H1 VISA interview
Vo: Hi, How are you?
Me: Hi, GM, am good, thank you ... how are you?
VO: Din't respond.
VO: Can I have your petition, LCA, client letter and letter to USCIS.
Me: Provided.
VO: She looked in to every detail of Client Letter and Letter to USCIS .. I guess she was comparing the job responsibilities in both the documents ..
After 15 mins, another old guy came to her, she switched off the speaker and talked to him for about 2 mins.
Constantly she was observing me while reviewing the docs .. every time she looked at me I replied with simle on my face.
Me: Do you need anything else..
VO: She smiled
VO: So where are you going to work?
Me: Told my petitioner company name.
VO: Who is your client?
Me: Answered.
VO: What is the project you are going to work on?
Me: Started explaining the project, after a min .. she said "ooh I know about it". I just concluded my explanation as she was already aware of the project.
VO: Whats your client's business?
Me: Explained.
VO: Who is your supervisor?
Me: Said my managers name at petitioner company.
VO: Who's your supervisior at client location?
Me: said that I dont have that information.
VO: "Okay you will get that information when you report at your petitioner?"
Me: Yes
VO: How frequently do you meet your supervisor at petitioner?
Me: said that I will be working at client location, so expecting him to meet once in a week or whenever there are meetings.. atleast will meeet him twice in a month
VO: She just raised eyebrows and smiled..
Me: Said that will be sending my timesheet to him everymonth.
VO: ahan ... okay.
Again the old guy came and she had discussion for about 3 - 5 mins. She switched off the speaker while talking, I was able to understand their discussion this time but just posed like I was not interested in their conversation.
VO: When you are working at client location will you be participating in the client's business?
Me: This question made me think a while, was not clear what she was trying to know, I was under impression that if am working on client project it means that I'm contributing to his business right!! I dint wait for long and replied her within 30 secs saying that ... When I'm working on the project at client location I will participate in the project discussions and will be providing my suggestions and said anything I do at client location will update them back to my supervisor at my petitioner and questioned back her with my expressions whether this is what she is expecting..
VO: So you will be participating in discussions .. okay.
Me: I dint respond, because even this statement din't give me any clarity on what she is expecting.
VO: She again asked the name of supervisor at petitioner ...
Me: answered.
VO: Asked me to write down supervisors name on a postit..
Me: I did.
VO: She was typing some thing for about 5 mins on the computer.
Me: Was starring at her .. she has got a unique locket, I liked it.
VO: Said, YYYY XX is your supervisor!
Me: Yes
VO: Again started checking something on the computer.
VO: Where does your supervisor live?
Me: Answered.
Me: Do you need adress?
VO: smiled .. no am good
VO: Whats your client address?
Me: Answered. had to explain the address 3 times as she was asking again and again and was jotting down the address in computer.
VO: She again reviewed something on the computer for a while and after 5 mins, she took out a yellow paper and said .. we need few more documents from your petitioner, letter from your client saying that there is a vacancy for you ..
Me: I said I have provided you the client letter,
VO: We need few more details along with these, it just have the agreement between your client and petiotioner.
VO: A detailed project description.
Me: Said I have that document and was about take that out of my folder
VO: We need a thick document.
Me: Thick in the sense?
VO: COntaining project timelines, employees details, current status ... and gave a big smile, which literally made me stop asking further questions.
VO: and Itenerary of services.
Me: I had this with me, but dint say that to her .. just smiled.
VO: Drop these document at VFS office and we will look in to the process.
Me: I was totally disappointed as I was expecting VISA as the interview went good without any issue
took a deep breath and asked how long its going to take?
VO: Smiled again ... hmmm I'm not sure .. but the process will start imm after you submit the docs and in general it takes 3 to 4 weeks.
We greeted each other good day almost at the same time ... she gave smile for the last time and I came back from the window without much joy on the face...

Its actually 221g Yellow slip, asking the above discussed documents. Was not happy entire day .. now waiting for those docs from my petitioner.

H1-B Stamping Chennai w Immigrant Petition Pending
Hi,
Got my H1-B stamping done successfully at Chennai in Aug 2011,

Direct Employer, and have an immigrant petition pending through my husband who is a GC holder.

Please take all the documents advised and photocopies,
Dress well (in semi formals for H1 or L1)

1st stage
Checking of documents, while checking the lady marked on my DS-160 "Not in PIMS"

Interview:
VO: Good morning
Me: Gud Morning how are you doing today

VO: How long have u been working for ABC Company
Me: from so and so date

VO: What is your salary
I answered

VO: How many times a month do you get paid
Me: This struck me as an odd question but we get paid monthly so I answered

VO: Is this your first job after Masters
Me: No and told her my job history

VO: What are ur qualifications
Me: Masters in Chem Engg

VO: We need to verify your peition in our database and its currently not being reflected you will hear from us in a week

Me: Does that mean my visa is approved

VO: You will hear from us in a week

I didnt ask further questions as I did not want to annoy her,
She kept my passport

I got an SMS from the consulate within 2 days that the passport is ready for pickup and on the 3rd day I received it at home with the visa.

I was worried since I had an immigrant petition pending but she never even asked me about it.

If you have a direct employer it seems to be a pretty straightforward process.

Be confident and present yourself well.

H1B visa experience.
I had the H1B visa interview yesterday. It was very simple. Also, my previous colleagues who attended the interview also had the similar experience. Be confident. If possible take couple of glass of water to get cool.

The chance of rejection or 221 (g) for admin processing is almost zero if you are from reputed company.

Below are the list of Questions asked for me.
1. Which place you will be going to US.
2. Have you been to US before.
3. Who is your client
4. What is your annual Salary
5. What is your responsibilities in the project
6. Also she asked for the justification letter filed to US CIS during filing.

Finally she told the visa has been approved and will reach in a week time.

All the best.

What I inferred upon different experiences and in my own experience is that, if the documents are correct there should not be any problem. Only if something missing, they start digging by asking questions and more documents.

thanks a lot immihelp.

Please
Hi guys,

Thanks to those who are sharing their experiences.

It would be great if you mention the model you're working with. e.,g. just Client, Employer-client, or employer-vendor-client.
