H1-B stamping in Mumbai - March 2011
Seventh year visa (since green card is in the works).

Direct employer (financial services - non-IT)
US Masters Degree
Big 4 Firm

Q: Who is your employer?
Q: What is your position?
Q: Highest degree?
Q: Spouse in the US?

That's it - I was granted the visa and got it the next day via DHL.

I was super panicky before going to the consulate based on reading horror stories on the internet. But bear in mind, most of the people who get their visas easily don't bother posting their experiences here....so the internet forums are flooded with unfortunate stories and mishaps! Just because you read 100 bad stories doesn't mean that everyone's getting dinged....there may be 1000 other good stories which are never posted.

BTW, ppl who advise wearing a suit and a shirt and a tie and what not are idiots. I was wearing shorts and shirt and the visa officer wouldn't give a crap.

Good luck all.

H1B Visa experiences ...
This forum is a fantastic place to share and read the experiences...Thanks for all the folks who had shared their experiences even in case of failures. This site has helped me in preparing pshchologically for the interview. If my fellow beings have not shared their experiences then i would have landed in the consulate blind folded. i would have been hunted and haunted by the non existing demons.Let me come to the point......

( My scheduled time was 31 March 2011 12:30 PM. I went with my family.Ladies hand bags, any types of bags , Importantly cds , pen drives , mobile phones , pointed objects are not allowed. If ladies are with kids then feeding bottles are allowed.)

[i reported at 12 :05 PM. It took 20 minutes for all the screening , folder arrangement etc. i entered the main visa Lounge. I was a bit relaxed and failed to note that my token number was aligned in a counter. My wife casually took note of it and said to me and we hurried and stood in the counter....so as soon as you enter take a look at the token numbers which scrolls in a visual display]

VO: Good Morning... how are you doing ?
Me: Good Morning Officer....Iam fine ...How are you doing today ?
VO: Documents please..
Me: ( i gave the folder which has been arranged at the front gate )
VO: how long you have worked in YYYY company ?
Me: I have not worked for the YYYY company. this is my first appointment with the company.
VO: How long you are with the current company?
ME: 6 years
VO: What is your total experience?
Me: 10 years...
VO: What is your annual compensation?
Me: YYYY $
VO:Please give me the visa application filed by the company
Me: I handed over the I 129
VO: ( started reading the document for a long time) What will you be doing in US?
Me: i started explaining.
VO: Where you will be working ? client place or employer ?
Me: i will be working in my employers place ...i told the address also.
VO: ( He asked again ) what is your annual compenstion?
Me : YYYY $
VO: What is your Highest Education qualification?
Me: MCA

(to my wife)
Vo: Maam How long you have been married ?
My Wife : 1 year and 8 months.

H1B Approved @ Chennai on 28-Mar-11
First of all i would like to thank a lot to this Forum which guided me a lot about the interview.

My interview was scheduled on 28th Mar 11 at 8.15 AM. I reached consulate at 7.40 AM. Security called 8.15 batch to form a long queue and i stood there for around 30 Min. Then Checked my appointment letter and given me a token number.

Though it is H1B, I was very much tensed and butterflies were flying inside my stomatch as some H1b were rejected on friday it seems. But everything had gone once i entered into building after security check, because it was like a BANK counter and token numbers were displaying in TV, peoples were roaming here & there and seriously watching TV like Cricket Match which made me to laugh and all my tension had gone somewhere.

Once my token number was displayed in TV, i went to that particular mentioned counter where all my documents were verified. Then i went to last counter for FINGERPRINT SCANNING and asked me to goto next building. There i saw many foreigners sitting inside a glass window and was shouting blau blau.... INDIA & USA FLAG WERE HOSTED at entrance.. This was the first time, i saw both flags flying really...

Again my token number appeared in TV and i went to that counter. There was a man like Cricket player Morkel. Our session started as follows

Officer: Hi.. How are you ?
Me: hi.. Good Morning..

Officer: Good Morning... Well, who is your client in US ?
Me: YYYY company

Officer: Where will you stay in US ?
Me: YYYY CITY, YYYY STATE

Officer: How much will be your salary in US ?
Me: XXK USD Per Annum

Officer: What is your total exp with Current Employer ?
Me: 4 years 10 Months

Officer: What is your total IT exp ?
Me: 7years 10 months

I got a golden words from him that
"YOUR VISA IS APPROVED AND WILL GET IT IN A WEEK BY COURIER"
"HAVE A NICE DAY"

Me: Thank you with smile....

Even without hearing my complete answer as well as watching my face, he was going to next question one by one and typing something in System. It seems once they saw H1B petition, they started typing in system and asking few questions as above. So guys dont worry for H1B Type Visa.
Still some rejection was there for L1 it seems.
Someone who was interviewed in my next counter, got left & right from officer for the question asked "WHY DO YOU NEED TO GOTO US FOR THIS JOB INSTEAD YOU CAN TRAIN A PERSON THERE", he replied like "THERE IS SOME DATA CONFIDENTIAL SO WE WONT TRAIN PEOPLES NORMALLY" Then officer got tensed and shouted like anything and thrown a PINK COLOR SLIP and asked to GET LOST... Be careful when you say something... Mostly say by single word answer.

My suggestion is that dont feel even if it is not approved, there are many countries in this world with many more opportunities. DONT NEVER EVER LOSE YOUR CONFIDENT.. GOD WILL BE WITH YOUR SIDE ALWAYS... BEST WISHES...

221g Green slip for H1b and H4 at Chennai
Friends,

Received 221g green slip in Chennai and VO asked for all petitioner based documents and asked to submit the document along with passport

Details of Interview:

Date : 25th March - Chennai

Category : H1b and H4 ( for my wife and daughter)

VO: What will you be doing in US
Me : Answered

VO what is your highest qualification
Me : Answered

VO: What do you presently do
Me : Answered

VO : Will you be working on client side :
Me : NO will be working on inhouse projects

VO : Do you have project documents
Me : Yes - showed

VO : Did you get time to read the Pamphlet
Me : Yes quickly went thro' it

VO : To my wife : Can you please give me your marriage certificate along with child's birth certificate.

Then suddenly she turned back to me and asked me if i have employer's wage report ?

I got little confused and thought that she is asking for the prevailing wage report for job which my employer had sent. She looked at it and said that she is not looking for this and needs employer's unemployment wage report.Upon which i said i don't have it and she pulled out a green slip and started circling all the petitioner side documents.

She gave me back the slip along with all the documents and said she need more documents from my employer before she can make any decision and asked me submit it along with passport.

so have this feeling that my visa was almost done and the VO just changed her mind at last.I will be submitting the documents shortly and hoping for the best

Anyone similar in the same boat along with me ? Please do let me know my chances of getting the visa ?

Thanks

HarryB
