Indian Passport Renewal has been Processing for Months
Hello all,
I have sent my Indian passport for renewal several months ago. Every time I speak with the passport application center/ check the status on Passport Seva to get an update of the status I am told that it is still processing. I have seen that people are receiving their new and old passport within a month or two of submitting the application. Does anyone have any insight on how I could at least receive my old passport back from the embassy?

Checklist - VFS - Passport Renewal
Few months back the Checklist had " Self Sworn Affidavit" but now in June 2021 I am applying for renewal of my dependent , I do not see any " self sworn affidavit".
Can someone applied recently let me know if its correct as its not there now in checklist.

Passport Renewal - VFS - SFO - Normal processing, previously issued at SFO
4/30 - Sent application to VFS
5/5 - VFS - Package received notification
5/7 - VFS - Processed and in transit to Indian Embassy
5/8 - VFS - Received and under process at Indian Embassy
5/26 - Passport portal - Police verification initiated (get in touch with police office if didn't hear from them in 3 weeks)
5/27, 5/28 - Noticed that passport print has been initiated then granted
6/1 - VFS - Application has been reviewed by Indian Embassy and will be dispatched
6/2 - VFS - Dispatched
6/3 - Received Passport
Still waiting on police to contact in India for (I think address) verification
My previous renewal was at SFO, should have taken about 10 days per information on their website but you know COVID situation :)
Edit: 6/8 - Police stopped by for verification
Tip: If you are in urgency, spend extra money and go for tatkal

Passport renewal-VFS Chicago- Normal processing
I applied for my passport renewal on 20th May 2021. I received the passport on June 2nd 2021.
During this processing time, I received an email for police verification. The police called me on my *** on 3rd June for verification (after receiving the passport). They took my ID proof copy through *** itself and informed they'll update the status.
So far the status on the government website showed "Passport has been handed over by the embassy/consulate to the OSP executive for further dispatch to the applicant". Today it's changed to "Passport application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate". Is this a normal status to receive post verification? Should I be worried? Anybody faced the similar experience?

Notarizing copies in State of IL
I am in the process of applying for passport renewal. Per the checklist, notarized copies of proof of valid US immigration status (Greencard in my case) and proof of address (Drivers License) must be provided. I live in Chicago and my notary informed me that the State of IL does not allow notarizing photocopies. I am unable to get the copies notarized.
Did anyone face this issue? If yes, what is the workaround?
IN and WI does not have this rule. Can I drive to either of these states to get them notarized?
Any suggestions?

I applied for passport renewal for my wife on May 25th and today i got email from VFS as below.
This informs are they dispatching passport?
I haven't got any status update like police inquiry, printing passport......
Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you. If using VFS courier, please check for email from "[email protected]" for details.If you have used your prepaid label then track the status via the website of the concerned service provider.Note: Information is printed on the documents as what you have filled while completing the online Form on the Government Portal. If you have made mistakes while filling up the Govt. form then VFS Indian Consular application Centres wont be in a position to assist. To get the corrections done, you should contact the Embassy of India or its Consulate directly based on your Consular Jurisdiction. Exactly week
I got my passport in exactly week. Much faster than expected. My relatives in India got a call from police station after I got my passport so I think police verification is still ongoing. Anyone else have this experience and what it means? Do I still tell my relatives to provide details to police?

Applied from NY: Indian Passport Renewal has been stuck in Embassy for more than a month
Indian Passport Renewal for NORMAL processing for my spouse has been stuck at Embassy/Consulate for more than a month. I only keep seeing the same status for many days together.
"Your application has reached at the Embassy/Consulate and is currently under review process"
I see that many people have received their passports renewed in a month or so. Our application was sent 1.5 months back to NY VFS office. But once it reached the Embassy, its only under review and there is no progress. The passport is already about to expire on 20th May. Not sure when and how will it move further and dispatch.
