Here's the timeline for my experience for change of Name after marriage

Feb 23: Sent the Documents using prepaid label from Fedex (Sender's location: San Jose)
Feb 24: Package arrived at VFS SFO offince in the morning
Feb 25: Received notification from VFS that the documents for passport renewal has been received
Feb 26: (Same message sent again) Received notification from VFS that the documents for passport renewal has been received
Feb 27: (Same message sent again) Received notification from VFS that the documents for passport renewal has been received
Unable to track the application on VFS portal for quite some time, Called and Mailed VFS regarding the tracking issues on VFS portal.

Mar 03: Received response from VFS that now you can track your application on VFS portal
Mar 04: Your application is 'under processing' at VFS India Consular application center
Mar 06: Application has been processed at VFS and is in-transit to the Embassy/consulate for decision making
Mar 07: Application has been received by embassy.
Mar 08: Passport Application is Under Review at indian Embassy

Status Remains the same till Apr 02. (Mailed embassy in the last week to inquire what is the hold that is making the process go so slow, recevied very lame response back that the passport has been received only in the first week of March)

Apr 02: Print has been initiated for the passport.
Apr 04: (Today) status remains the same.

My renewed Passport was handed over to VFS New York last Wednesday 03/24. The VFS website still says my Application is in review at the Embassy. I understand they were closed from 03/25-03/30. But still they havent updated their tracking nor dispatched it yet. Extremely worried. Called VFS and they said they are working in limited capacity and wont be able to escalate. Anybody facing the same issue? Please update.

It’s been 7 months since I applied for my parents re issue of Indian passports through ckgs but haven’t received them yet. I know that cases were transferred to PRAMIT in October but haven’t received any news on the update. I keep sending queried very week and sometimes get a revert “ under administrative process”.
Anyone faced similar issue , don’t know who to contact and get a status on the application.

02/23 - Shipped application via Fedex (labels purchased from VFS)
02/26 - Received by VFS 02/26 - Email/SMS confirmation that package was received
03/06 - Email/SMS confirmation that Application under process in VFS
03/08 - Application In transit to embassy. After this we should check status on the government's portal https://porta14.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html
03/11 - Embassy received passport application
03/18 - Print has been initiated for passport
03/20 - Passport has been printed
03/23 - Passport is printed and will be delivered shortly
03/24 - Passport has been handed over by the Embassy/Consulate to the OSP executive for further dispatch to the applicant
03/24 - Received email from VFS - Your Application has been reviewed by the Embassy of India/ Consulate General of India & will be dispatched using the courier service you had opted.
03/24 - Received email from VFS - Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you.
03/30 - Received email from Fedex that package has been picked up
03/31 - Both Old and New Passport delivered by FedEx

The VFS office was closed from 03/25 to 03/30 due to COVID restrictions, because of that reason the passport was not handed over to FedEx till 03/30.
Overall a very satisfactory experience with VFS. Hope this helps.

I applied for my passport renewal from New York. It's been one month since the passport reached the Consulate (2/27/2021). The status on the govt portal has been "Under Review" for 3 weeks. There's no response to my query on PRAMIT and VFS says they can't do anything. How long could I expect it to take? Please advise. Thank you

01/31 - Shipped application via Fedex (labels purchased from VFS)
02/02 - Received by VFS
02/04 - Email/SMS confirmation that package was received
02/11 - Emailed VFS support about status and received a response they are working on applications received on Jan 25th. They asked me to wait for 5-6 days.
02/19 - Email/SMS confirmation that Application under process in VFS
02/20 - Application In transit to embassy. After this; we should check status on the government's portal https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html
02/22 - Embassy received passport application
02/24 - File number generated
03/16 and 03/17 - Tweeted CGISFO about application status but received no response
03/18 - Print initiated and received email that police verification has been initiated
03/22 - Passport has been printed and will be delivered shortly
03/23 - Received email from VFS that passport will be dispatched with courier
03/23 - Received email from Fedex that package has been picked up
03/24 - Passport delivered
03/27 - Police called family in India and asked them to visit station with my photo id to verify the address. My brother went to the station and provided this information.

Hello,

I sent my passport to SFO for renewal under NORMAL process. It has been stuck at "Passport application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate.".

Not sure its almost 11 days on status. The process was started on mar-1 for VFS , after a month still under review .
Planning to go to India in month of may. Can we change the process from NORMAL to TATKAL online for passport renewal ?

I sent my passport to SFO for renewal under normal process. It has been almost a week the status is stuck at “Print initiated for passport”.

What should I do? I reached out to VFS they were not too helpful.

Need some input : I send dependent application to NYC but it is closed and delivery failed and not know when they will open so requested for return of fedex package Do anyone have faced something like this . How long it took to get the application back. Please share so that it can help me .getting anxious now.

3/8 - Documents sent through fedex.
3/10- Reached VFS.
3/11- Acknowledgement from VFS. “Your package has been received at the VFS application Centre. Our current processing times are longer than usual. Your application will be reviewed with 48-72 business hours. You are requested to track the status of your application after 2-3 business days”.
3/12- Application reviewed and in transit to emabassy.

On Government online tracking status
3/15- Application fees received and its being processed.
3/16-Passport print initiated.
3/17-Passport has been printed and delivered to OSP and in transit.
Again VFS tracking
3/18- Passport received from embassy and will shortly dispatched. They said fedex tracking number will be sent but dint received anything.
3/22- Old and new passports got delivered without any fedex tracking number given.

Total 11 days process if it is Tatkal. Actual business working days involved is 8 days.

Documents list sent.
Checklist document - Tatkal specific only.
Government form with signatures and append photo. Color copy.
Annexure E - notarized--but not mandatory. Depends on Notary service as well.
Change of apperance-notarized-mandatory and append photo
Self sworn - notarized--but not mandatory. Depends on Notary service as well.
Visa proof - notarized- Color copy.
Address proof - notarized -Color copy.
Passport first 5 pages and last three pages -Color copy. Self attested only.
Original passport.
Education certificate- not required- sent just in case.
Appointment letter.
Used standard envelope. And super-scribed what type of service is it whether it is Tatkal or regular.

Notes:
Make sure your government application preview or file has all the data. Sometimes when you download that file will be missing some information. It looks a like a bug. Try downloading several times until you have all the data and looks in good format.

Opted VFS fedex courier service. Initially they give you only outgoing label. Incoming label will be generated by vfs once your passport is ready.

Make sure your photos are clear- Tip-make sure that your shoulders are equally displayed on the picture appropriately - white background.(Strictly no white shirts). I got
photos from Walgreens.
