L1A approved at kolkatta on 21 Jul
hi guys,
it gives me immense pleasure to share my experience with you. thank guys to have shared theirs to help me with my preparation.
questions asked:
VO only took the finger prints before proceeding to interview
1. how long are you with ABC.
3 years
2. what are your educational qualifications
told so and so..
2. what is your client
told and explained a bit
3. did you hire anybody recently
yes i did..as part of onboarding for our new project.
4. how do you hire guys at offshore.
explained the phases, saying ultimately the decision lies with me.
5. ae you travelling with your family
no, currently not.
sir, your visa is approved.
we were like 5 guys who went there for different visa categories. we all were given certain tokens at entrance by security guy. after some wait, they started calling in with token numbers. all my companions went inside but i was never called. later i came to know the security guy gave me a wrong colored token and that would never be called. after 30 others(who came much later) went in, i approached the guys around and got in.
my belief:
go with a feeling that you have all the chances to get through. be bold and confident and fake if required to win their confidence.you must justify your category and requirement. i was not well prepared but came good because i believed in destiny. finally VOs are smart though not technical.its just about your body language, confidence and luck.
hi dear L1 Bs
my experience is good enough to read their VO's mindset. it was pretty much easy for them to reject our applications without any genuine reasons. they are not interested to approve l1b i guess. but i don't want to discourage the peoples are awaiting for their turn. be prepare the answers ur not going to work for your client site. what i felt they don't need the peoples for their clients site if it is an l1b. it should be the intra company ransfer. but generally it is not the case if your working for services source.
two mandatory questions if they identified as specialized..
1. is anybody working for the same client where your going....
2. what is your role in that project...you should answer in an simple understanding easy words..it should reach vo ...ur the critical one..should not use the software industry generic terms... eventhough he will take an chance to refuse you,...don't give the chance.. friends...
L1 Visa Approved - Chennai Consulate - Functional/Business Analyst/MBA
I think my post will help people who are with the following conditions
1) First time US visa applicant
2) Applying for L1-B (Skilled Labor/Worker)
3) Working in an IT Company (my case only 3 years IT experience, out of overall 6 years where I had my first 3 years of experience in sales)
4) Working as Functional Consultant/Business Analyst/Product Manager (this means less technically skilled, which increases the chances of visa rejection)
5) Having an MBA Degree (which means C,C++,C#, Java etc., are alien languages which I really cant understand/code, which also adds the severity to the above point)
6) Company is a product development company (not a service based company like Infosys/TCS or any other big company), so you are not going for any client site, its just an intercompany transfer (in my case I was transferred from subsidiary company in India to the head quarters in the US)
7) Small company less than 200 employees (infact mine was the first L1 visa application from my company)
My experience @ Chennai US Consulate, where my appointment was by 9.45 a.m.
9.15 a.m. : Reached Consulate Office (already 15 -20 people were in queue)
9.30 a.m. : Security check started (verified my appointment letter/HDFC Receipt/Allotted Token).
9.40 a.m. : Entered the sitting area (room 1) and was waiting for my turn
10.00 a.m. : I was served, passport verified, HDFC Receipt verified, Finger prints taken and asked to proceed to the next room.
10.03 a.m. : Entered the sitting area (room 2) where the actual interview takes place. Already 25 30 people were waiting for their turn.
10.50 a.m. : My token was called upon and then I was standing in the queue before me there were 4, which means 1 was attended by the VO and 3 are allowed to stand on the queue.
11.00 a.m. : I was in front of the VO
VO: Hello Good Morning (with a smile, which I was never expecting because when I was standing on the queue I saw none of the VOs were smiling or greeted the people)
Me: Good Morning Mam, (Oops I was not prepared for it)
VO: Can I have your I-797 and passport please
Me: Sure.
VO: Which place in US are you going?
Me: YYYY , XX (Replied with the State and the City)
VO: Good, may I know your purpose of your visit?
Me: Im actually going to my head quarters for a new product development. (and gave some points to prove my uniqueness)
VO: What is your salary in US?
Me: $ YYYY p.m.
VO: What is your salary in India?
Me: YYYY X RS p.m.
VO: Can I see your petition?
Me: Sure (Oh my god I was not sure which one should I give, but she smilingly help me, Sir, that document then I realized the document which was about 300 pages was the one she was expecting)
VO: Which client are you going to work for?
Me: Not for any client site, mine is going to be an in-house job in head quarters (Oops I didnt expect this question from VO, because I had clearly explained that mine is a product development company and going for a new product development in the head quarters).
VO: Ok, your visa will be approved and you will get the passport within one week (in-fact I got the passport in just two days and started to US in 5 days from the date of interview)
11.07 a.m. : Was out of the consulate office.
My observations:
1) Wait patiently until your turn comes, its up to you to watch others been interviewed, if you think it will shaken you then dont look at them, there are lot of way you can distract yourself there. (I saw about five people from various counters been rejected in front of me with really one big argument between a candidate and the VO)
2) Be prepared for questions like purpose of visit/your skilled knowledge
3) Be prepared with the numbers of your salary (both in US and in India, say the exact numbers which are in your application/petition)
4) Dress up formally/professionally (preferably with tie, but I did saw people without tie but still got their visa, but I was wearing tie.)
5) Be confident. At the same time dont be super confident and dont act too smart, be cool and natural.
6) Dont show as if you are desperate of going to US.
7) Very importantly prove/convince the VO that without you that project/process/work will not move forward and you are the critical and primary resource for it. You dont need to care about the technology you use or technical skill you possess, VO doesnt really test your technical proficiency and never they are will ask you to write/prove your technical skill right there.
8) And finally be courteous and smiling which costs nothing 
9) Even after all these things if you were rejected, then dont worry there is always a next chance in which you can reappear.
Entire preparation for my L1 B is all gone in vain. Understood, unless it is L1As they are not ready to accept any L1Bs nowadays. Here below are my VO Questions with me
VO: Whishes
VO: asked my wife, love marriage or arranged
Ans: xxxx
VO: to my wife again, are you fine?
Ans:ZZZ
Now the show begun here
VO: What is your role?
Ans: Team Lead
VO:Exp. With current organization
Ans: 1.7 Years
VO: Specialization
Ans: Started my part, then he stopped and asked how many are trained on this tool?
Ans: very few
VO: So far I have seen many people from your company in this technology with this tool have appeared for VISA. Do you think that we dont get people there and learn this quickly?
Ans: Then I started telling about the modules and complexity area that I needed but he decided and told your tool is not qualified.
And advised me to apply for H1 B and handed over me the pink slip with his Autograph.
Stared back on the counter number .It is none other than 13.
ALL THE BEST GUYS.
Hi, My overall experience is 6 yrs 4 months and in my current company I am having 3yrs 1 months of experience. Where as by the time i filed the petiton i have only 2yrs 11 months. So, they mentioned the same in my petition.
Can anyone tell me that will it impact anything for my application for L1B.
Hear is my experience and that was pretty bad, when I gave all my documents to the VO immediately he added the blue slip(Indication of Rejection)to my docs and then he started asking the questions to me !
ME: Hi sir, good morning
VO: No response from and looks like he was in frustration
Then I had submitted the docs and he simply added the Blue slip , I was very disappointed and my confidence level went to low.
VO: Why you wand to going to US?
ME: Answered
VO: What is your specialized skill?
ME: Answered
VO: How much experience do you have?
ME: Answered
VO: How long you are working for your client?
ME: Answered
Thats it , even he didnt listen what I am saying and he is very busy with other things.
And finally he gave the passport and docs along with that blue slip.
Though L1 B got rejected, i am just concren about why they are rejecting whith out asking any questions and all. Not only mine there were so many people had their interview for L1 B before me and all were getting rejected.
