L1 at Chennai approved
I recently completed the interview for my L1 at the Chennai consulate.

Although this website helps a lot in terms of expectations, I would like to add some points specifically for people from product companies:
* A lot of emphasis is placed on the company's reputation especially if you are from a product company. Be prepared to explain about you product in lay-man's terms.
* Be prepared to justify truthfully why you are specialized.
* Be sure to carry additional copies of documents, petitions etc. (There is a lot of ambiguity here but 3 seems to be the magic number)

Busting some myths:
* There is nothing called a "professional look" (They do not care if you come with a tie and a suit or not) - Be comfortably and neatly dressed and not over dressed.
* Visa approval has nothing to do with luck! It's all about how you present yourself and your company.
* Counter numbers do not matter.

Bottom line: Don't sweat it. If you have a valid case, be confident about it.

Oh! and please stop this talk about "golden words" etc. It does not convey a good perception, and seems kind of sad!!

L1-B Individual Approved on 21-Jun-11, earlier L1-B Blanket refused on 29-Apr-11
I had attended for L1-B blanket on 29-Apr-2011 @ Chennai, got refused. Questions asked:

1>VO: Hello sir, how are you doing?
Me: Hi, I'm doing good thanks.
2>VO: Can I have the documents please
Me: Gave him the entire folder
3>VO: Who is your client
  Me: XYZ
4>VO: How many years of experience do you have?
Me: 4 yrs and a month
5>VO: What is your salary?
Me: Told Indian salary per annum and take home
6>VO: What is your specialization?
Me: I’m expert in ABC proprietary product, which is used by XYZ for their 123 solution …

Before even finishing the last question he stared typing some thing in system in front then pulled out a blue paper, marked a section in it and said “as per blanket application rules your visa is not clearly approvable ”; put a stamp on I-129, along with this handed over the passport and the blue paper. I said thanks and walked off.

Then my company applied for L1-B Individual, got approved and interview was scheduled on 21-Jun-2011 @ 9:15 am.

This time I prepared well, was little tensed but kept tension low and carried smile & confidence till the end though there were lot of rejections around and had to wait more than 15 mins for my turn after docs verification. Questions asked were very simple.

1>Me: Good morning mam
VO: How long are you working with XYZ
Me: 4 yrs and 3 months
2>VO: Can have the entire folder
  Me: Gave her the folder
3>VO: who is you client?
Me: ZZZ (its a State Govt client) (made I contact)
Vo: Ohh abc (she started typing some thing on system in front)
Me: Yes, we call it ABC (made I contact)
  VO: Its abbreviated form right
  Me: Yes
Here comes the golden words "I'm approving your visa, you will receive in 7 business days"

Me: Thanks, have a good day
  Vo: you too
I had a doubt regarding collection of passport and a doc, clarified that from a helper and walked of happily...

Tips:
Eye contact, keep your tensions low and carry smiles...
Above all these luck matters!!!

L1A individual approved
I had applied for L1A blanket in March 2011 and it was rejected. Company later applied for individual petition and I had the PA date yesterday (June 20th) at Delhi embassy. The following questions were asked:

1) Which company are you working for?
2) Who is your client?
3) Which location are you travelling to?
4) What is your onsite team size?
5) How many projects are you handling at onsite?
6) Do you have hire and fire authority?

My wife was there as well and she was asked only one question:

1) Are you currently working?

I think the consulate person was not aware that mine was an individual petition. She was having some trouble with her computer and she called some other person for help. That guy checked the document and informed her that this is an individual petition. Immediately she told me that I had done a good thing applying for individual and said the golden words "Your visa is approved and your passport will reach you in 4 working days".

You should not face any problems in getting your visa stamped for individual petition. Appearance in the consulate is just a formality.
