Got my L1B Approved
I attended in Chennai.

My company is listed in BEP and my company asked me to display my ID when I attend the interview. First at the entrance my documents were verified and I was given a token number. I went inside the consulate. Next, they screened for secuiry checks and let me in. I was waiting for my turn according to the token no. When my turn came, I was called. I went and showed my BEP folder which had all the documents. The person who was in that counter took a the DS-160 form copy and directed me to another counter to take my finger prints. I gave my finger prints and I was asked to leave to the next block. In the first counter in that block, they took the DDs and asked me to wait for my turn in the next counter which was for the visa interview. I waited and my token number was called, I went to the counter.

When I arrived in the counter, the visa officer (A nice lady :-)) greeted me with a smile and said “good morning”. I said “Hi Officer, good morning” with a good smile on my face.

She started asking me the following question:

1. Why you are going to the US?
I am going to the US for ABC project for my client – XYZ Company

2. What would be your role in the US?
My role would be YYYY (I told my designation)

3. What would be your activities in this role?
My activities will be requirement analysis, test strategizing, test designing, test scripting and designing test suite using SOAP UI for validating web services that integrates ABC and XYZ applications.

4. What is your specialization?
I am specialized in designing test suite using SOAP UI for validating XML based web services.

5. Why only you from offshore are going to the US?
Three of us attended a training for this tool together for our project. The other two have left the organisation, so I have got my chance

6. So are you the only one in the company itself who knows the tool?
No “I am the only one in the project” I said

7. Is there any dependant who will be joining you in the US later?
No, I am the only one.

She smiled and said “I approve your visa”
I said “Thank you very much officer” with a big smile.
She said “You’ll get your passport stamped in 4 working days.
I thanked again, said “bye” and left the counter.

I attended my interview on June 14th 2011 and I have got my passport today- 16th Jun 2011

L1B approved at Hyd
Thanks to one and all who posted their exp here, it helped me alot in preparing for my interview.

i had my interview on 15 June at 9.00Am in Hyd
i reached there by 8.00am, Huge crowd was there and it took 1.30Hr to get in thru the gate.
suggest to go earlier than your slot as they are allowing and conducting the interview irrespective of your time/slot
after finishing the formalities like collecting BEP docs, Security scan check and finger prints (all these took me another 45mins) i have got my token number at around 10.15am.

i was in the visa waiting area for hardly 5-10mins and got the call to attend the interview at counter #13.
i worried a bit by hearing the counter number as in some posts in this web mentioned that rejections are happeing at counter #13.
i saw the 2 guys before me got their stamping done, and kept my worry aside.

now its my turn.

me: wished the officer
VO: wished me back and asked my red folder
VO: how long u r with the company?
me: 5years
VO: who is the client?
me: ZZZ
VO: how long u are with this client
me: 5years
VO: what is your client does
me: explained him about my cleint's profile
VO: what kind of? extended the question abt my cleint
me: explained

then the VO started signing on the documents and golden words came "YOUR VISA IS APPROVED" u will get the pp in a week.

i thanked him and took my I129 copies from him.

This site helped me alot. Go prepared as suggested by the users here and dont be tensed.
wish you all the best.

Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences on the site, the experiences helped us a lot in preparing for the interview and getting an insight of the process.

I had gone for an L1 interview on June 14 in Delhi. My L1 individual petition had already been approved at USCIS.

Earlier, in April 2011 my interview post L1 blanket petition had been rejected with comments not clearly approvable. Post that my employer had filed for L1 individual petition in premium processing and the approval was received within 10 days.

The following questions were asked in the interview:

the first question was to my wife - How long have you been married?

Next the officer asked me the organisation where I worked.

What do I do currently?
How long I have been working in the organisation?

It looked as if the fact that the individual petition was there was sufficient for them to approve the visa.

All the best to everyone for the interviews. It seems that they are asking majority of blanket petitons to be filed again as an individual and once the approval is there then its a mere formality to approve the visa.

L-1B and L-1 individual
Hi,

I got a blue slip for L1-B stamping on the 15th at chennai.

Reason- Your blanket L-1 application is not clearley approvable under section 8 CFR 214.2 ans INA 101 (a)(15)(L)

I already have an L-1 Individual visa ( location-1) with the same Parent company (client) but a a sister concern of the same in which I had not travelled in the same due to cancellation of projects . This time I happened to go for the new visa stamping L-1B which is a diferenent business entity (location -2) but falls under the same parent company.

Along with the L-1 I have a B-1 visa through which I have alreday travelled 3 times in the past 2 yrs and an H-1 B visa with a diff client which got expired.

The question asked were usual ones like the job profile/ current exp with the client etc etc - but to hear that the documentation provided was not convincing enough and i need to get back to my company's HR dept. I observed that the blue slip was kept ready even before the questionarre was half way through :(

Queries:

They have not asked me to submit any documents, do I still stand a chance for re applying or re checking if my organisation can check through my attorney the reason for rejection.

Can i use this existing L-1 individual visa and travel the (location -1 ) and get transferred to the new location from the US itself?

could anyone suggest what are the options possible and is there any work aound?

regards

I’ve attended the L1B interview on 14th June in Chennai.
There were three candidates before me in the queue, interaction between them and VO looked like they are for student Visa (Included when u passed out, percentage and which college).
And all the 3 visa’s got approved. By seeing this my confidence increased.
Below is the interaction between me and VO.

Me: Hi Sir, Good Morning
VO: Good Morning sir
VO: Where are you going sir?
Me: city, state sir
VO: What you'll be doing there?
Me: I’ll be modifying existing banking application using the proprietary tools and methodologies to meet the new system design and specifications sir.
VO: What is your Specialized Knowledge?
Me: I’ve a extensive knowledge in using my company tools and methodologies and worked on the similar kind of projects. The tools and methodologies namely .... These are the same tools that will be used in my US assignment. Currently I’m using these tools in my project for same client. These tools are specific to my company employees and not shared with any client.
VO: Who is your Client sir?
Me: client_name sir
VO: What are your duties in the project?
Me: My duties involve gathering and analyzing business and technical requirements from client for customization. Detailing the business using process diagrams. Developing the software using programming languages. Conducting the unit testing to ensure it meets the project requirements. Deploying the software in production and coordinating with onsite and offshore teams.
He paused for few seconds and asked
VO: You said programming language, which programming language do you use sir?
Me: I’ll be using Java programming language sir.
VO: What is your Salary?
Me: In India / US sir?
VO: India?
Me: ... L / year sir.
VO: From how long you are with this Company?
Me: I’ve been working from past 14 months with this company. But I’ve overall 68 months of experience in working for similar kind of projects sir.

For some 10 to 15 secs he saw form I-129S, then he said your L1B visa is ‘Not clearly approvable’ sir and issued a blue slip.

What I observed is you have to convince him / her on your specilized skill. Looks like I've not succeded in that!!. When you say about the development / usage you've to say using the tools and methodologies. But I missed while answering my duties, by saying programming languages. I answered whatever was there in my petition.

I had a bad luck..., but better luck for you guyz...

Hi,
This site was really helpful in providing me right direction to be prepared with the common questions being asked by the VO. I attended the L1A visa interview in Hyderabad on June 10 and my visa is approved. The following are the questions asked to me.

1. Which company you work for?
2. What is your project?
3. What is your team size?
4. How do you manage a partial team in India while you are in US?
5. Who is your client?
6. Which city will you be going to in US?
7. When did you join your company?
8. How long are you in your current project and current client?
9. You were in US for the same client already, right?

And then one question to my wife - what do you do in US?, and a question to my son - how old are you?

Then the VO stamped on two sets of petition papers and told passports with visa stamped will be sent to the company in courier in a week.

Thanks again for all the experiences shared in this site which were definitely useful for me !!!
