My L1B got rejected
hi all,

Last week march 7th i went for my visa interview at chennai consulate.

the questions were very usual questions.

1. what are your specialization skills
2. what is your team size
3. why you are going to US
4. what is the toolname.

my passport was returned with blue form 221g and marked with category 'your visa is not currently approval under this category'.

the reason given by VO is,my skills are not so specialized skills, further skills will be considered special only if it cannot be replaced at US. So prepare your questions with answers accordingly and be confident in your answers.

thanks,
applicant

L1B and L2 approved in Chennai on 8 March
Hi Everybody
My L1B and L2 got approved today at Chennai Consultate without much hassle. I sincerely thank you every one in the forum who has shared their experience which was very useful in preparing for the interview.

Here is my experience,
I went along with my wife, My wife was carrying the file behalf of me, I'm holding just a folder.

VO:Good Morning Sir (Suprrisingly he greeted me first, where I'm prepared to greet him :-))
ME: Good Morning Sir, How are you doing With Great smile on face.
VO: Doing great, how about you
ME: Excellent
VO: (To my wife) Madam, please put your middle finger of left hand on scanner.
ME- Helped my wife to put her finger on scanner
VO: Sir, you put your index finger of your right hand on scanner.
ME: (Done as said)
After scanning he nearly took 2 minutes to verify my files, papers etc, this gave me enough time for me to relax and get confident and I mentally preparing for the answers.
VO: Who is your client
ME:Said the client name (Client is very very familiar, no further questions on abbrevating, full form of client etc)
VO: What project you are going to work
ME: I started explaining the project name and etc, he interrupted and asked me
VO: You will be involved in development or support?
Me: Said the answer
VO: How long you are working for this client
ME: XX Years, YY Months
VO: How long you are working for your Employer
ME: XX Years, YY Months
After this he stopped questioning and started wriing on the petition and stamping the papers, It gave clue, that mine is done with positive ending
and he turned to my wife and said
VO: Madam both your petitions approved, you will receive your passports in week time.
ME: Thanks (With smile) have a good day
VO: Have a great stay

Ok by seeing the conversation above, you will find the questions are not much different than what was asked to everybody. Either if your visa is rejected and success, these questions are almost going to be standard, so you need to be really prepared well to speak with confidence.

One guy before me got rejected, I dont see the VO asked different questions, He asked the same question, what you will be doing in US. The guy was using lot of tech jargons, VO Interuppted him strongly and asked strong screwing questions where this guy lost confidence and taking 30 second gap to prepare answer and looking at different corner and he replied the answer. VO said he cannot approve the visa.

Please find the success formula DO/DONTS and follow strictly and the VISA is yours for sure

1. Without you answering this ONE GOLDEN QUESTION, your visa is not going to be approved, that MANDATORY AND GOLDEN QUESETION, YOU NEED TO BE VERY MUCH WELL PREPARED IS
"WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IN US? (PLEASE NOTE QUEESTION MAY BE IN DIFFERENT FORM WITH THE SAME CONTEXT, E.G WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN US, WHY YOU ARE GOING US ETC."

It is worth, that you draft a very well prepared verbal answer in a paper without grammer mistakes and prepare it very well to deliver during the PA, many of the folks may be technically good and really they will have special skill to do things in US. but during interview if they fail to put this in proper form to VO, you are giving a good chance to VO to pull out 221 or rejection forms.

Draft your reply for this question in a paper and do mock reply with confidence and eye to eye contact, dont feel kiddish or schoolish to prepare for this mock, if you are serious in getting visa and couldnt afford rejection.

2. Again as many said, VISA interview is purely to test the genuinity and how well you are able to convince the Visa Officer, so here "How well" doesnt mean that you need to throw all the techical jargons like OOPS, DB, XML, Tier architecture things at VO. Please dont ever do this.
Explain in plain simple english words (as explaining to our uncle working in Government office in higher cadre :-)) what you are working and what you are going to do in US

E.G of good answer: I'll be working for YYYY Client on YYY project, I'll be involved in Req Gathering, Analysing Requirements, Working on Design, Building the Code, Performing Unit testing, Deployement activities, etc. (I hope you dont see tech jargons in this answer).

3. Dont stammer, and think the answers on the fly and dont cook answers. Questions are very predefined so prpare very well, and also please logically think what could the sub qeustions for your answer and prepare for it as well.

4. If you have very less experience (Overall, with client, with your current employer) you have a chance for getting rejected and also have a chance for facing more questions.
Especially if you dont have much experience with your current client, etc. You need prepare very well and should have statement that what makes you special even with the little experience with client and employer, (Again without tech jargons)

Here the the list of other questions you should have drafted answers and very well mock prepared for the Interview.

1. What is your role in Offshore
Tip: Draft it and prepare well and say it several times to wall confidently :-)

2. What you will do in US
Tip: In case if you get both the first and second question asked in Interview, Please make sure you give lively and different answer for both the questions, dont mechanically repeat the same answer for both the questions, He might jump to third quesetion, that why dont you perform the same duty from offshor without going to US. Where there is pottential chance that you could struggle handle this question. So Kindly demark the role difference between onshore and offshore, and why you cannot do this from offshore. Prepare answers that can justify VO and not make him to ask more Questions.

3.How many people in your organization have this special skill you have.
TIP: You may not be statistic tiger here, to have all the count of this detail of different branch and different country of your employer, dont struggle to answer and dont put more question to VO, Just say approx x% of population is skiled, that x should be very minimal (1 to 2 ) to show that is rare skill.

4. Why you are selected among those population.
TIP: Dont try to show some other different skills other than specialized skills here, E.G dont say that you got Gold Medal in degree. Please try to explain that you have very good experience on the specialization and quote if you have any acheivement in the specialization.
DONT EVERY VOLUTANREELY TELL YOUR MERITS LIKE EXP, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS ETC WITHOUT BEING ASKED.

5. Tell me about your project
TIP: Dont try explain the technological aspect of the project, Explain the functionality of the project, How it is useful for the business, who will be using, its purpose etc.

PLEASE NOTE:
VISA Office doesnt have much time to spend for your detailed answers in paragraphs, he will be looking for short answers and willing to complete in 5 to 10 minutes, so give short and sweet and confident answers.

IF YOU STRICTLY FOLLOW WHAT EVER SAID ABOVE, THERE IS ZERO CHANCE OF REJECTION.

Please also dont forget to share your experience in this forum, your experience might not be typically different from others in terms of questions and answers, but just share that yours is approved/rejected, even if it is approved, it gives hope to many people, who are trying to find the approve/rejection ration in the forum.

Thanks

All the best and I wish you to get the VISA you applied for. mmmm Hope is very lengthy and boring one....

Hi guys, thanks to immihelp i got thru the iterview on 3rd March,2010. My slot was for 8:30 am but got the entry only by 9:45 am and was interviewed at 10:45am. Invariably, the format of call will be window followed by series of token to be interviewed at the window. The speakers inside the windows are good, so you don't have to stress to get what VO will be speaking. This is how it went:

VO: Good Morning sir.

VO: Your token please.
I gave my pink token.

VO: So how long you have been working with your current employer?
I: 4 years and 9 months

VO: What is your job at your company?

VO: What will you do in current project?
