Chennai Consulate Individual L1/L2
Hi,

Thnaks for this forum.

I had an appointment at 9.30 am. I and my wife reached Consulate around 8.30 am. After initial security and document screen up, we appeared for the interview. Below are the questions asked to me.
1. How long have you been with your company?
2. Which client are you working for?
3. What to you do for them
4. Since how long have you been married?

That's it. Golden words were 'Welocome to US'.

Blanket L1B Cleared
Hi all. Thanks to this wonderful forum - I was able to get tons of information from here about the PA. I would like to share my experience here. I had my PA just a couple of hours ago. It was really cool. The experience was like this:

We (me & my wife) had our appointment at 7:45 AM in the Chennai consulate. We had decided to use the Stars and Stripes lounge so that we can miss out on waiting outside the consulate. We shelled out Rs. 250 per head. We reached the lounge by 7:20 AM and were allowed in by 7:30 AM (that's when the lounge opens). We checked in our baggage in the baggage counter and proceeded to the consulate in the VFS van. We reached the consulate at about 7:50 AM. We were allowed in after the mandatory security checks. The documents were verified and finger prints taken. We moved to the next building to pay the 25K check. After that we moved to the interview queue. There were a lot of people waiting in the queue, but only one counter (counter 3) for L1/H1 visas. So we had to wait for quite some time. Then after about 15 mins, few more counters were opened and applicants were directed by the VFS staff to the various counters. This I believe was the turning point, since the VO who was in counter 3 was pretty hostile and was rejecting quite a few petitons. I saw about 5 L1B and 2 L1A's getting rejected by him. I was feeling nervous about going to this guy, but as my luck would have it, I was asked to move to another queue along the side. This was counter C. The VO there was pretty cool. There were about 5 applicants before me, and all but one had their visa granted. The one person to miss out did not have his application rejected, but it was withheld for want of more information. Then my turn came. The conversation between me and the VO went like this:

VO: Hi.

Me: (With a smile) Hello. A very good morning to you. How are you today?

VO: I'm fine, thank you. How are you madam (to my wife)?

Wife: I'm fine, thank you.

VO: Can I have your documents please?

Me: Sure. Here you go. (Gave the docs to the VO).

VO: (Kept typing something in the computer for about 20 secs) How long are you working for your company?

Me: (I heard the question as to whom are you working!!) Told him my company name.

VO: How long?

Me: Two years and eight months.

VO: Who's your client?

Me: Told him my client's name.

VO: Okay, and what are you going to do for your client?

Me: Told him that I will be working on an enhancing an application which will be used by the underwriters to create new life insurance policies.

VO: Okay. I need your verification. Can you place your left hand fore finger on the red light please?

Me: Sure. (Kept the left fore finger).

VO: Madam, I will need your verification as well. Your left hand fore finger please.

Wife: Sure. (Kept the left fore finger).

VO: (Kept typing in the computer and started to sign some papers). All right. It's all set and done. I'm approving your visa. Both of you go rock in New York City. (Gave back the I129S duplicates with his signature)

We: Thank you very much and have a great day ahead.

VO: You too.

And we were done !! The golden words had been said!! It took about 90 second for the whole thing. We got our visa and are all set to fly away.

My tips to the prospective applicants - dress smartly and have a smile in your face. That really helps. You should look like a professional before the VO. And try to look confident. Have your answers ready and be prepared. I had been preparing for almost 4 days for the PA. This forum helped me a lot. And also, the fact that I was from a leading software firm in India helped a lot. The briefing sessions I had in my company were really helpful. There were about 10 people from my company who took up the PA and all but one got through. Insist that your company briefs you completely about the L1B visa and what should be said and what not.

So, be confident, dress smart, and the visa is yours !!

Cheers,
Rajiv Shankar

L1B Febrary 4th 2009
Hi All,

I thank all who have shared their experiences in this blog. It was very helpful for me to know how the interview will be.

My interview was scheduled at 9.15AM. I was there at the consulate at 8.30AM and after all security check and my document check in first building I entered into second building where the interview is taken. First they asked me to go to counter number 12 and give the Demand draft of 25k. Then they made me wait for more than an hour. Then they have called the people who are scheduled for 9.15AM.

I was standing in the line and observing the people who are being interviewd. I can tell you the type of people who were taking interview. In 1st counter there was a male who was cool guy and talking to everyone friendly he was approving 8 VISA's out of 10 people. There was a guy in counter number 3. He was taking interview like he is selecting candidates for a job( I mean he was taking 15 to 20 minutes per person) and he was rejecting most of the people. While i was there he took interview for 10 people and just approved one. He is a tall guy with long face. Try not to go to him. And there were few interviewers who were ok. They were accepting 5 out of 10 applications.

My Turn came. I went to the lady who just entered the office(I was the second person to interview). She was good. She called me
Converstaion starts.

ME: Hello Mam. Good Morning
VO: Good Morning. How are you?

ME: I am good. How are you?
VO: Good. Can I have your application folder

ME: Yes(Gave it to her)
VO: Are you from YYYY Company?

ME: Yes.
VO: Since how long you are working in YYYY co.?

ME: A Years & B Months
VO: Who is your client?

ME: XYZ Co.
VO: What will you do in US?

ME: Gave all the explaination about my job profile.
VO: Did you ever work on this client?

ME: Yes. I am working on this client since Y Years.
VO: Ok. (She was writing something on my form and started typing in her computer, She stamped "Received application" on all the 3 129S Forms and gave back 2 forms)

VO: We will courior you the passport to your office within 1 week.
ME: Thank you.

Few points to be kept in mind.

1) Dress Formally
2) Dont mess with VFS guides.
3) Observe the interviewer while standing in the line. And notice the questions they are asking.

4) If they ask you about your job profile, use words like "Proprietory, Specialized, Expertize" and tell the job profile which is unique( Most of the applications will be accepted if the job profile is unique). Dont think while telling.

5) Be Confident.
6) Pray god for Luck.

All The Best.

I am sorry guys..i attended my interview on 24th Dec 2008 but posting this bit late.
Here is my experience.....
I had my interview set up for L1A on 24th Dec at 9.15AM. I was happy to attend interview on this date bcoz its just one day before christmas and visa officers will be in happy mood.

After i entered the lobby, i was asked to stand in the Queue ..there were four counters . I just observed the mood of all officers.

There is a woman who is in a very good mood and i was praying god that she should interview me and whn my turn came, i just moved to that Q but a VFS guy came and pulled me to another Queue who was very serious in mood.

When I stood in that Q, he was interviewing a dump guy who is not reacting to any of his questions and obviously his visa got rejected and walked away and forgot to collect his passport. Then I moved front to attend the interview. Visa officer found that guy forgot passport and asked me to see if he is around. Then I saw him and called him "Excuse me you forgot your passport" then he came and collected his passport

Next it was my turn

Me : good morning officer
VO : didnt react to my wish and he asked me to gimme the docs
Me : i gave the docs and stood with a smiling face
VO : while checking the docs seriously, he looked at me once to read my face
VO : he asked me what are your skills?
Me : i have project mgmt skills and I am presently working as PL for YYYY project
VO : when i was answering he was signing my docs
and he quickly put the docs wht he needs in that folder and threw it behind him
VO : after approving he said "Have Fun"
Me : I was very happy that I got Visa.
     I said "Thank you Officer"
VO : Merry Christmas
ME : You too.....

Hi all,
This forum was really helpfull and i hve attended my interview on 27th, 7.00 a.m interview. It is good to go in the first batch as the rejections were in the ratio was 2/10. The questions they asked were
1. How long r u workin with present company?
2. Why ur gettin transferred to U.S?
3. Who is your client?

Thats it, before completing my answer for 3rd quest, she asked me to give my biometrics and said ur visa is approved. One lady officer was there and she was so happy on that day. She dint ask much questions and she dint deny visa for anyone who was standing before me.
